C (sample sentences) 1 It's no use trying to reason with him. 2 Let's go swimming. 3 Forgive my interrupting you. 4 Do you deny having taken/taking the money? 5 He came rushing towards me. 6 I'm busy writing letters. 7 I always enjoy going to the cinema. 8 Would you mind closing the door, please? 2.

I never enjoy meeting Nigel Dykes. ‘Hello Nigel,’ I said. ‘Fancy meeting you here!’ . 2. b 根据课文的情景,可以判断b. insensitive(感觉迟钝的)能最恰当的描绘Nigel Dykes 是什么样的人,其他3个选择a. funny(可笑的,滑稽的);c. nuisance(讨厌的人),d. cruel(残酷的)都不够恰当,不符合课文的内容。

【Text】 The great racing driver, Sir Malcolm Campbell, was the first man to drive at over 300 miles per hour. He set up a new world record in September 1935 at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. Bluebird, the car he was driving, had been specially built for him. It was over 30 feet in length and had a 2,500-horsepower engine. Although Campbell reached a speed of over 304 miles per hour, he had great difficulty in controlling the car because a tyre burst during the first run. After his attempt, Campbell was disappointed to learn that his average speed had been 299 miles per hour. However, a few days later, he was told that a mistake had been made. His average speed had been 301 miles per hour. Since that time, racing drivers have reached speeds over 600 miles an hour. Following in his father's footsteps many years later, Sir Malcolm's son, Donald, also set up a world record. Like his father, he was driving a car called Bluebird. New words and expressions

C 1 must n't 2 must n't 3 need n't 4 n eed n't 5 must n't 2 . 1 remarked 2 no ticed 3 remarks 4 no tice 3.多项选择题答案 1. a 根据课文第一句‘Do you call it a hat? 'I said to my wife. 我对妻子 说),可以判断作者不喜欢那顶帽子,所以 a. didn ‘ t like the hat his wife had chosen 是正确 答案。 2. a 根据课文第9-10 行‘ You needn’ t have said that, ' my wife answered. ‘1 needn ‘ t remind you of that terrible tie you bought yesterday 可以判断只有a. his wife reminded him that he had bought a terrible tie与课文的实际情况相符,是作者为对他妻子粗鲁讲话而后悔的原 因,其他3个选择都与事实不符,也不合乎逻辑。 3. c a. must n't (不应该); b. won t(不想要); c. need n't(不必); d. don't need(不需要)4 个选择中 只有c. need n't与后面一句It isn't necessary(没必要)的含义相同,所以选 c. 4. d a. still和d. yet都有还,仍然"的含义,但yet只能用于否定和疑问句中,表示还没....

用将来时的句子中表示“能力”时通常用 will be able to, 在表示成功地完成过去某个动作时用was able to而不用could: I can't remember where I've seen him. I can sing some songs, but I can't play the piano. He thought he could pass the exam easily, but he failed. After Byrd had ordered his men to throw out two heavy food sacks, the plane was then able to rise. Jane can't swim yet. She'll be able to swim in a few months time. He finished the job yesterday. (陈述一个事实) He was able to finish the job yesterday. (表示可能) He managed to finish the job yesterday.

【Text 】 Haroun T azieff, the Polish scientist, has spent his lifetime studying active volcanoes and deep caves in all parts of the world. In 1948, he went to Lake Kivu in the Congo to observe a new volcano which he later named Kituro. Tazieff was able to set up his camp very close to the volcano while it was erupting violently. Though he managed to take a number of brilliant photographs, he could not stay near the volcano for very long. He noticed that a river of liquid rock was coming towards him. It threatened to surround him completely, but T azieff managed to escape just in time. He waited until the volcano became quiet and be was able to return two days later . This time, he managed to climb into the mouth of Kituro so that he could take photographs and measure temperatures. Tazieff has often risked his life in this way. He has been able to tell us more about active volcanoes than any man alive. New words and expressions 生词和短语 【生词讲解】 1. volcano n. 火山 (volcanoes) an active volcano 活火山 a dormant volcano 休眠火山 violently adv.
