Abstract

Recently, there is a increasing social tide of the formation of newhalf, more and more people like dressing up or behaving as a women which seems to be popular among teenagers. For this, our group members want to explore the reasons of this phenomenon and discuss its meaning to our society. So, we get the important data throu gh the online questionnaire. We find that people’s point to the newhalf has the obvious tendency by gathering these statistics data. After our group discussion and analysis, we come to a conclusion that the improvement of women's social status greatly promoted the formation of newhalf and the culture of newhalf will affect the physical and mental health of teenagers especially boys so that we should avoid the negative effect it brings as possible as we can.

Introduction

In this report, we make a survey on the Internet and analysis these statistical data, and then we get more information by collecting some persuasive information which is recognized on the Internet or documentaries. Combining these information with the social situation and development tendency let us have a more clear understanding. Finally, we get into a group discussion by analyzing the formation and social impact of the newhalf. By doing this survey we draw a conclusion eventually.

Literature review

Newhalfs are initially originated from the Japanese anime industry. It refers to naturally or by artificial means let others be mistaken for one man of female effect and it symbolizes the cute and sprout. Nowadays, in most cases newhalf refers to in the real li fe feminine some boys’ behavior is feminine. Newhalfs Phenomenon is the impact to the traditional concept. That some men are feminine has become an indisputable fact.

Here are some views come from different ways:

In s ina microblog, it says “In fact, it is somebody else's own choice, their own interests. Their parents, or the society, have no right to inter fere with them.” And an article《How to evaluate newhalf》tells us “ Only when men are more male and women are more women can we are on the basis of equality, mutual understanding and respect each other, in achieving their own at the same time and realizing the family harmony , social harmony development and progress.”

Methodology

The purpose determines the methodology. Our main task is to find out the reasons for the formation of newhalf and the impact of this phenomenon.

Generally, two main methodology is designed and adopted. To find out the first question, we determined to search online and browse relevant books in library. To work effectively, we divided the task into some parts and every one of my team is in charge of one or two small tasks. As for the second question, we thought the best way to find out the impact of something to the society is designing a questionnaire. It’s the most direct and effect ive way which was proved in the later practice.

Here are the details of our methodology:

The first methodology——information collecting，including historical documents researching and professional comments collecting. By this way, we got some ideas about the newhalf phenomenon formed and developed. Besides, we also got some information about the famous newhalf in history and knew how they feel about themselves、how do they face the public pressure and evaluate the influence they brought to the society.

The second method is the questionnaire. This way is mainly designed for figuring out how newhalf influence the society and how do people evaluate them. To find out the evaluation of different groups, we classified the data by gender and age.

Results

Ⅰresult about the documents brosing

The definition of newhalf on Wikipedia:

In contemporary Japanese culture, newhalf refers to men who cross-dress as women. The term originated in Japanese manga and Internet culture in the 2000s, but the concept reflects a broad range of earlier traditions and examples of male drag-wearing in Japan. Associated with otaku culture, it has given rise to dedicated maid cafes, fashion stores and a range of popular media. It is often combined with the cosplay of female fictional characters by men.

The comments of experts on this phenomenon:

The associate professor in Chinese Dept of Sun Yat sen University Ke qianting teacher insisted, the criticism and concern on newhalf in the society both for men with female impersonators, but also for fem inization of male. She said, “For the newhalfs, people should alert the commercial operation, because there are lots of distributors to promote their products through newhalfs. In this regard, consumers should keep proper distance and rational ju dgment.”

Typical case of newhalf:

The famous newhalf Liu Zhu said in an interview, “He is male in physiology, but mentally completely is female.” Liu Zhu's father admitted, “W e have been very worried about he like a girl from childhood.” But now he is not a bit shy for Liu Zhu dressing like female.

Experts’ explain for this phenomenon from the perspective of biology:

Professor Chen Zuoming told reporters, Liu Zhu should be a transsexualism according to the media described. This group of people in the psychological is the female, but in the physical is the male. They all have a common characteristic is that they do not agree with their own physical gender. They prefer to dress up as the opposite sex and want to change their own gender.

Q1: Have you met newhalfs around yourself?

According to investigation result, about 46% students have met newhalfs. The result shows that newhalf phenomenon has been common around ourselves.

Q2: Why newhalf phenomenon is so popular?

For the surveyed students, 21 of them think the nwhalf is only the production of non real-name internet system. 20 students think this phenomenon is reflect of the impetuous psychology in the

society. In modern society, because of the high survival pressure, some people can do anything to be come famous. Some “cross dresser” say that they never dressed as a woman in real-life. Dressing in that way is in order to attract the attention of the judges.

Q3: Do you thi nk that the increasing of women’s status in the society is the main cause of the formation of newhalfs?

Obviously, most of the students believe the status of women affect the number of newhalfs. In modern society, with women’s education degree and work ability improved, their status is also constantly improving, gender differences between men and women is shrinking, social division of labor has been blurred. So people think there doesn’t exist things which only men can do. As the collective performance social subconscious, newhalfs can’t be ignored.

Q4: The benefit of “cross-dressing”?

About 20 students hold that there is nothing beneficial for the appearance of newhalf. But some people think the newhalf can lead the trend of the society in the variety, entertainment, art and other aspects. Just a small number people think that can enrich culture. At the same time, it also promoted the disintegration of the patriarchal society and is beneficial for the equality between men and women. However, the tolerance and understanding of the feminine individuals, it is a sign of social civilization progress.

Q5: What do you think is the negative effect of the formation of newhalf?

Half of the students think the newhalf makes society lack masculinity and affect the development of children. A healthy society needs different genders to perform their respective roles and assume their respective social responsibilities. The popularity of newhalf may break the harmony between the sexes, by that time, men may not be able to assume the social responsibilities they are supposed to do. And this will definitely be a giant sorrow and a catastrophe of the whole society.

Q6: Which do you think is the main reason that causes the appearance of newhalfs?

Most people think that the main reason is their own condition, besides, others think people who are newhalfs look like female or they want to make more money. With the development of productive forces, our society has developed into a pluralistic, free society. It is the fact that men and women temperament are closer.

Discussion

Now we can judge the whole procedure of our research:

Merits:

We have taken full use of the internet and the resource provided by our school to search for the useful information which means our research paper won’t prejudiced or be constrained in some narrow perspectives. And we believe that our report can be objective enough.

We designed a questionnaire which referenced to some samples on the internet and we take some peoples advice into consideration to improve it. And this make our questionnaire comprehensive relatively.

Demerits:

We mainly release the questionnaire by internet——like wechat, QQ, Which means there won’t be much elder people get involved in our survey so we don’t know how they feel about this phenomenon.

For the causes of the formation of newhalf cultural, we analyze from several aspects and think

that the family, school education, social trends have certain influence on this. Regardless of the form of newhalf being severely criticized, but these effects reflect something we have to attach great importance to the reality.

Most children are the only-child especially the boy so that parents often impose unprincipled love to their child. This “saccharification education” causes children losing the consciousness of suffering hardship, weakening their ability, and breeding the attachment psychology and feminization tendency.

Today’s school education in China is also to blame for causing this. Without any time to improve individual character, release their own nature, boys can only be polite and bidding students. In the long term, the characteristics of being lively and naughty will shrink gradually while the trend of the feminine becoming more and more obvious.

The change of our social environment also promotes the formation of newhalf culture. The need for manual labor personnel has a rapid reduction. Male’s inherent advantage in the job market become less and less important gradually. Besides, in the same condition, women have higher employment rate than men.

Conclusions

That mainstream culture cannot accept newhalf is still an open problem. The results include that it causes a lot of confusion to the esthetic orientation of teenagers, because the psychological mechanism of teenagers is not mature enough, and a positive and healthy values. Moreover teenagers have neither the ability to distinguish good nor bad, and have no ability to refuse, which will have an adverse impact on the development of their personality and the society. It is concluded that we should give positive correct guidance. In conclusion, for one thing, we should treat with an open mind to newhalf phenomenon. For another, we actively guide teenagers to establish correct aesthetics of sex and body.

ⅠCauses:

For the causes of the formation of newhalf cultural, we analyze from several aspects and get some important conclusions: the family, school education, social trends has certain influence on this. Regardless of the form of newhalf being severely criticized, but these effects reflect something we have to attach great importance to the reality.

Family is the children's first school, as well as children school forever. Family education plays a decisive role to children's personality development. Most children are the only-child especially the boy so th at parents often impose unprincipled love to their child. This “saccharification education” causes children losing the consciousness of suffering hardship, weakening their ability, and breeding the attachment psychology and feminization tendency. Such family education will only be the strong catalyst which causes the boy becoming newhalf.

Today's school education in China is also to blame for causing this. Boys who are send to up by teachers and presents are studying all day. Without any time to improve individual character, release their own nature, boys can only be polite and bidding students. In the long term, the characteristics of being lively and naughty will shrink gradually while the trend of the feminine becoming more

and more obvious.

The change of our social environment also promotes the formation of newhalf culture. With the transformation and development of social economy in the labor market, there is an increasing demand for knowledge-based and labor service personnel. On the contrary, the need for manual labor personnel has a rapid reduction. Male’s inherent advantage in the job market become less and less important gradually. Besides, in the same condition, women have higher employment rate than men. And we can find that women are more vulnerable to the respect and the attention of people in the social environment, w hich makes some male spawn the “feminine consciousness” to a certain degree.

Because of t he above reasons, the lack of “masculinity” boys becomes more and more sever and we will see more newhalfs wherever we are.

ⅡEffects：

Feminization of man also has a negative side. A healthy society needs different genders to perform their respective roles and assume their respective social responsibilities. If the phenomenon of feminine men is ju st the minority of this world, it won’t have a great impact on the natural order and society regulation. If this become a common phenomenon, and it may break the harmony between the sexes, by that time, men may not be able to assume the social responsibilities they are supposed to do. And this will definitely be a giant sorrow and a catastrophe of the whole society.
