Which criteria are important for students in different departments using image search?

2.Invitation paragraph

You are being invited to take part in this research project. It is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve before you decide. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you like. Please ask me if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Take time to decide whether or not you wish to take part. Thank you for reading this.

3.What is the project’s purpose?

In the past years, there have been many reports and articles which have explained the general criteria for image search users. This survey aims to investigate which criteria could influence students in different departments using image search. In other words, the purpose of this research is to explore why students have different criteria for image search according to their departments. The departments include Information School, Automatic Control and System Engineering, and Journalism Studies Moreover, this project will be conducted for almost 3 months.

4.Why have I been chosen?

This project needs the help from the students in the three departments: Information School, Automatic Control and System Engineering, and Journalism Studies. More exactly, every 10 participants from each department.

5.Do I have to take part?

It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you decide to take part you will

be given this information sheet to keep and you can still withdraw at any time without it affecting any benefits that you are entitled to in any way. You do not have to give a reason.

6.What will happen to me if I take part?

The survey could take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Additionally, this research will last for 2 weeks. It will include some closed questions followed by some open questions, so it uses both quantitative method and qualitative method. It is expected that you fill in this questionnaire according to your daily image search behavior.

7.What do I have to do?

There are no any lifestyle restrictions in this project.

8.What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?

This research will only need to record some personal information of participants, such as the departments of students. Therefore, it is no potential disadvantages or risks of taking part.

9.What are the possible benefits of taking part?

There is no intended benefit to the participant from taking part in the project.

10.What happens if the research study stops earlier than expected?

There is no anything which will happen if it stops earlier.

11.What if something goes wrong?

If there is anything which makes you feel confusing, please ask me by replying this email.

12.Will my taking part in this project be kept confidential?

All the information that I collect about you during the course of the research will be kept strictly confidential. You will not be able to be identified in any reports or publications.

13.What type of information will be sought from me and why is the collection of

this information relevant for achieving the research project’s objectives?

This research needs the information about the participants’image search behaviors, such as their image search tasks, the criteria about image search. In this way, it could collect and analyze the information, and make conclusion about which criteria are important for these participants using image search. Obviously, the information is needed to meet the research objectives.

14.What will happen to the results of the research project?

The results of the research project will be only used to make conclusion about the relevant individuals’image search behaviors. Furthermore, the results could also be handed in the research supervisor. However, they will not be identified in any report or publication.

15.Who is organizing and funding the research?

The research supervisor Robert Villa has given a lot of help for this research. However, there is no any funding which is provided by organization or company.

16.Who has ethically reviewed the project?

This project has been ethically approved via Information School’s ethics review procedure.
