When you’re a teenager, it seems that every time you say, “ I want to …”, your parents answer, “No, you can’t.” Young people further complain that their parents do no t understand them. When something goes wrong, most parents just don’t believe in their children. Without asking why, they think their kids are wrong. And not many parents allow their kids to choose for themselves.

Yes, it is true that your parents sometimes treat you as a little child. But remember that not long ago you were really a child. Your parents still remember the childish (孩子的) mistakes you used to make. They want to protect you though you don’t want them to do so.

So, if you want to get more freedom, please try to understand your parents and don’t lie to them. Try a more friendly way. If you want them to allow you to stay out late, don’t just say, “All the other kids can stay out late.” Tell them as much as you can about what you want to do and where you’ll be and why it’s important for you to stay out late. Then they just might say, “Yes.”

46. Parents usually agree with teenagers when the kids ask them for something.

DNA is the whole “map” of t he human body. It is something that all humans have, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the reason that we look like our parents, because we get some of their DNA to make our own.

People have been trying to understand the human body for a long time. In I860, Mr Mendel discovered why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because of small things called “genes”(基因)in our body. In 1953, two scientists, Watson and Crick, found out that those small parts are really messages. They’re written in the DNA with a special language.

In 1961, another two scientists found the first “word” that they could understand in

that language. It shows how DNA tells the cell (细胞)to build its parts, Scientists have now found all the words in the DNA map, but we still do not understand what they all do. By understanding what just one “word” means, we can help to save people from several illnesses. So the more we understand, the more doctors will be able to do.

Most people hope that this will help to make better medicine and help sick people. Other people worry that when we learn more “words” and find out more information, we will use it in the wrong way, just to make people more attractive (有吸引力的), or stop sick people getting jobs.

So he went to London and stayed in a small hotel for a few days. One morning he went out for a walk. In his country people drive on the right, but in Britain they drive on the left. David forgot about this, and when he came to a busy street, a bike suddenly knocked him down. David lay on the ground for a few seconds and then he sat up and said, “Where am I?”

An old woman was selling maps at the side of the street. She quickly came to David and said, “Maps of the city, sir?”
