Nowadays, many aspects of people’s daily life have undergone considerable changes because of the recent development in artificial intelligence. Obviously, artificial intelligence has already completely renovated people’s lifestyle. On the one hand, th e contribution of artificial intelligence to the society is prominent and people’s dependence on it is an irreversible trend. People enjoy the benefits and convenience brought by intelligent machines. On the other hand, people are still concerned about its negative impact, for example, whether our brains will regress with intelligent machines to do the thinking.

In my opinion, artificial intelligence will enable our brains to get more creative. Admittedly, a lot of work has been done by intelligent machines. It seems that the function of people has been weakened and people’s brains have been replaced. As a matter of fact, thanks to intelligent machines, people can expand their creative energy and add new varieties. Simply speaking, when people are free from tedious, repetitive, sometimes even dangerous work, work efficiency will undoubtedly be improved. As a result, people can spare more time to do what they want and pursue what they dream of, which is the premise of creativity. Moreover, creativity stems primarily from knowledge and thinking. Once people have the opportunity to do more thinking and learning, their intelligence would be enhanced rather than weakened.

Although artificial intelligence is the exhibition of people’s high degree of crea tive power, it should be noted that it is like a double-edged sword. The sensible choice is to embrace its advantages and cope with the problems it has aroused. This is what an advanced and rational society should be like.

Which Is More Important, Education or a Cheaper Holiday?

New research has shown that almost four out of ten parents in the UK have taken their children out of school to go on holidays. Cost is the main reason given by parents for sacrificingtheir children’s education. Parents are to be banned, however, by UK’s E ducation Authority, from taking their children out of school to go during term time.

Should local authorities stagger school holidays to enable families with children to take advantage of travel bargains? Or is it wrong for parents to jeopardize their chi ldren’s education for the sake of a cheaper holiday? As far as I am concerned, education is more important. Firstly,

children’s education must come first. A cheap holiday during the school season shouldn’t be the reason to take a child out of school. Some parents are not willing to sacrifice or schedule their lives in terms of their children’s needs. This kind of attitude will influence their children deeply. It’s no wonder so many kids are not interested in school and don’t take their study seriously. Seco ndly, school isn’t day care center. It’s an educational institution that needs every student to follow its rules. Taking a child on holiday when school is in session will disturb the order of the school. Besides, it is disruptive for the child, because he will have to catch up when he returns.

All in all, taking children out of school for a cheaper holiday is irresponsible behavior. Those parents would risk being fined financially and morally. It’s not only kids that need to grow up——a lot of parents need to as well.

Some people think it is not good to do so because this may not make people smart consumers. But in my eyes, the advantages of being careful with money in daily life outweigh the disadvantages.

First, being careful with money is a virtue that can always benefit people. Being thrifty is of great help, especially when the economic status around the world is not very good and it becomes harder to earn money than before. A good habit of being careful with money will help many people go through this difficult period or any other difficult financial situation in their life. Should College Students Hire Cleaners?

According to a recent report, six university students hired cleaners to clean their dorm and do their laundry every week. Although we have no right to tell them what to do with their money, as a university student myself, I find this practice absurd.

For a start, away from our parents, it is in university that we learn to be independent adults. Cleaning the room and doing one’s laundry are the most basic living skills. If we always depend on others to take care of us, how can we survive when there is no one to help us? How can we take on any responsibility when we step into society?

For another, the practice reflects their flippant attitude towards money. The money they paid for the cleaners probably comes from their parents, who must be very depressed once they know the truth. It also sets a very bad precedent on campus. Other students may follow suit to show the wealth of their families; or worse, they tend to think money can buy them anything in this world, which obviously is wrong.

All in all, I think we must do away with this practice. Otherwise, we may never appreciate the good value of money and an independent way of life. The better and sooner we can take care of ourselves, the more proud our parents will be.

The Benefits of Volunteering

Saving Money is a Good Habit

My Idea of a University Arts Festival

University arts festival has always been a big occasion to display students’ talent in art as well as to cultivate their artistic taste. Therefore, to make the incoming arts festival more fruitful, I personally think it should include two parts: one is to organize some art activities among students such as singing, painting, photography, recitation or short play contests, and the other is to invite all kinds of art troupes to campus to stage excellent performances of ballet, orchestra or drama for our students.

As regards why university arts festival should be organized in this way, there are mainly two reasons: to develop students’ artistic potential and to enhance their aesthetic ability. By participating in art contests, students not only have a golden opportunity to show their special gift for art but also undergo sort of training through preparation, rehearsal and competition. Thus those activities encourage students to get involved in art activities, which is not readily accessible to them in normal times. Such an intimate contact with real art enables students to understand art better and appreciate it properly, which will refine their artistic taste in the long run.

Since my idea of arts festival integrates training students’ artistic ability with improving their aesthetic taste, I believe it will go a long way in art education, which is also the ultimate aim of university arts festival.
