Bring blind is tough in any case. But things were even harder for Srikanth Bolla who was born in a small village in India, where the common belief was that kids with disabilities were “of no use”and therefore, better off dead. Fortunately, Srikanth's parents loved their son and refused to give him up. Instead, they encouraged the blind boy

to dream big and reach for the star.

Srikanth did not disappoint his parents. The now twenty-four-year-old is the founder CEO of Bollant Industries.

Of course, gelling here was not easy. Being both blind and poor meant that Srikanth had to face hard challenges. As a young boy, Srikanth attended a regular school near his home. Unfortunately, the students and teachen didn't quite like him because of his disability. As a result, the young boy was largely ignored and often spent the entire day alone.

Concerned this would hold back Srikanth' s development, his family decided to send him to a special needs, school in Hyderabad. Sure enough, the young boy soon rose to the top of his class, earning awards in speech and debate c0mpetitions . But Siikanth was prevented from studying sciences when he reached l0th grade, because it was thought too “dangerous”for a blind student.Not one to give up, Srikanth took legal action and because the first blind student in the country allowed to study sciences.

Late, after graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Snkanth set up Bollant Industries in 2012. For just four years, it has become a powerhouse with over 450 employees, 70% of whom are physically challenged.

This Sunday marks the end of Daylight Saving Tim. ( DST), which means you can enjoy an extra hour of sleep by simply turning hark the clocks by an hour.

Increasing the length of the day was first suggested by Benjamin

Franklin in 1784. However, he was not serious when he mentioned it

in a Idler to the editor of the Journal of Paris, as a way to save

candles.

When New Zealand scientist George Hudson put forward the idea in 1895, he was hoping for two additional hours of daylight in the spring to do his favorite-studying insects. Unfortunately, his suggestion fell on deaf ears, as did British William Willett's when he came up with it in 1907 as a way to save electricity.

It was not until April 1916 that Germany began DST to reduce the use of artificial light and save fuel. Then the US, Britain, and a few other countries followed shortly after. However, losing and gaining the hour does bring some unintended(意外的)results. The end of DST can change the birth order of twins born around 2:00 am. For example, if the first twin baby is born at 1:45 am and the second one, twenty minutes later al 2:05 am, given that according to the changed clock, the time would be 1:05 am.

Train schedules also get affected by this change. Passengers traveling ovemight this weekend will have to endure(忍受)an extra hour of (ravel time because the trains come to

a standstill between 2:00 am ami 3:00 am to stay on schedule. Fortunately T airplanes do not

Yuoki, a restaurant in Germany, is not your everyday all-you-can-eat buffet (自助餐). For starters, there isn't an actual buffet to fill your plale at. Instead, customers are seated at a table and provided with iPads which they can use to order up to five small dishes every ten minutes. But Luan Guoyu's most effective way of fighting food waste, and the one that has attracted med ia attention, is his €1 ( $1.15)fine for food still left on the plate. “It’s called ‘ all-you-can-eat’” he says, adding that the extra charge is not meant to increase his income,

but to act as a warning against wasting food.

Luan Guoyu's system is unique in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, but not in Germany.Okinii, a Japanese-style restaurant in Dusseldorf, has also been charging customer, the same € 1 tax for unfinished food on their plates since 2013.

With so many people living on the edge of s.anation, and food waste becoming a serious problem in developed countries, it will be interesting to see if more restaurants will start carrying out the“eat up or pay up”policy.
