More sleep in old age, however, is ----50------ with better health, and most older people would feel better and more ------51------ if they slept for longer periods, he said.

When we think of green buildings, we tend to think of new ones – the kind of high-tech, solar-paneled masterpieces that make the covers of architecture magazines. But the U.S. has more than 100 million existing homes, and it would be __47__ wasteful to tear them all down and __48__ them with greener versions. An enormous amount of energy and resources went into the construction of those houses. And it would take an average of 65 years for the __49__ carbon emissions from a new energy-efficient home to make up for the resources lost by destroying an old one. So in the broadest __50__, the greenest home is the one that has already been built. But at the same time, nearly half of U. S. carbon emissions come from heating, cooling and __51__ our homes, offices and other buildings. "You can't deal with climate change without dealing with existing buildings," says Richard Moe, the president of the National Trust.

With some __52__, the oldest homes tend to be the least energy-efficient. Houses built before 1939 use about 50% more

energy per square foot than those built after 2000, mainly due to the tiny cracks and gaps that __53__ over time and let in more outside air.

Fortunately, there are a __54__ number of relatively simple changes that can green older homes, from __55__ ones like Lincoln's Cottage to your own postwar home. And efficiency upgrades (升级) can save more than just the earth; they can help __56__ property owners from rising power costs.

(3) 空格前为冠词a /an/the,应填名词。

UNIT1 In order to generate positive press, Philip Knight, the chairman and executive if Nike, announced that he would toughen the health and safety standards and decrease the use of child labor.

1、听力 (1)使用具有增加信息接受方注意力功能的词汇,例如most, only, just, particularly, really, new, free, famous, strange , unusual, surprise, shocked, always , each, ever, every, little, few, any, nothing, full of, complete, throughout, all, almost, nearly, total, i mportant, must, stress, note, notice, range, insist, add , laugh, desperation, horror, fear, disaster, ke y, minimum等等; (2)使用特殊结构及句式,例如比较级、最高级、as…as结构、not so…as结构、different from、similar to、强调结构、否定结构、感叹句、if丛句、完成进行时态、as…as possible、make it clear that、you can imagine that、don’t forget that等结构; (3)含有数字、时间及相关词汇的句子,例如first(start, pioneer), second, millions of, figure, many, one day, years ago, today等等; (4)重复和自问自答; (5)引用:语气语调一般会有明显的变化。 因果原则: 含有表示因果关系的词汇的句子,命题的可能性很大,这些词汇包括because, why, reason, so, as a result, as a sign of, thanks to, therefore, due to等等。 首先要注意听表示转折关系的词汇,例如but、however、unfortunately、unexpectedly、to tell the truth 等。 在对话题中,往往会有一些表示建议或劝告的句子,例如“Why…?”“Why…not…?”“Why don’t you/we…?”“It would be better to do...”“Wouldn’t it be better to do…?”

这类词有: (1)表示顺承:and,also,first,second,third (2)表示转折:but,on the contrary,otherwise,yet (3)表示因果:consequently,thus,therefore,as a result,so (4)表示比较:similarly,equally,like,in the same way (5)表示递进:furthmore,moreover,in addition (6)表示总结:in conclusion,finally,in short,in summary,to sum up,in a word,my point is that,that is to say,briefly speaking 3.

四级考试的常用后缀在判断选项词性时可以有一定帮助作用: 常见名词后缀: -sion,-tion,如:starvation,attraction,profession -ity,如:quality,diversity 常见动词后缀: -ate,如:estimate,generate -en,如:widen,worsen 常见形容词后缀: -able,如:stable,affordable -tive,-sive,如:destructive,excessive ,sensitive -ous,如:unconscious,enormous 常见副词后缀: -ly,如:deliberately,completely,remarkably, 在根据前后文判断每空的词性时,一些经常考察的形式如下: 名词: 通常来说,冠词(如a,an,the)、形容词、介词后面搭配名词,即“a/an/the/adj./prep. + n。”,举例说明: Education soon became a _____.
