什么是interview?

具体地说就是面试人试图了解被面试人是否是他要寻找的合适人选

1. 和教授interview

对于申请科研式研究生的同学,经常会需要和教授interview. 教授的目的是了解一下这个学生的能力,对未来的规划, 以确定学生是否是自己研究生的合适人选.

一般来说,和教授interview往往会用电话面试的形式,偶尔有机会可能是当面一对一面试. 内容一般包括Traditional, Technical, Behavioural等问题.

和教授的interview一般相对比较随和,主要会是聊天的形式,其间夹杂一些问题. 有的时候教授可能会提前给你文章读,然后在面试时问你看法.

具体问题类型和准备方式见后文

2. 和招生负责人interview

对于申请本科,授课式研究生和co-op等项目的同学,更多遇到的是和招生负责人面试的情况。有的时候如果语言分数偏低,也会被要求和招生负责人面试。面试的目的一般是考察学生的综合素质以及语言能力。

这类interview也大多是电话面试形式,偶尔可能会有当面面试。内容一般不涉及technical 的问题,更多的是Traditional, Behavioural和Situational的类型。

这类面试一般更加紧张一些,面试人很可能会事先准备问题列表,一个个地按照表上的内容问下去。可能主要的讲话者将会是你自己,某种程度上来说会造成一定心理压力。另外因为问题是事先准备的,可能在措辞上也更正式一些,对听力能力有限的同学可能会有一些挑战,这也会造成压力。

好消息是,这个类型的interview非常常见而且问题非常有套路,准备充分的情况下是绝对可以超常发挥的。

3. 和工作公司interview

这个类型的面试很显然是申请工作用的。申请工作的interview又分很多种,比如和HR面试,和manager面试,和同事面试等。根据工作的类型,技术类的工作和行政类的工作等等也会导致面试内容的区别。

-->HR Interview (screening)

HR一般的作用就是screening了。大概就是比如1000人申请一个工作,HR挑出100个人挨个打电话或者约见,最后选出10个给manager。这个面试本身的作用不大不小,表现得好没什么帮助,但表现不好就直接被淘汰了,所以也要慎重对待。一般这类面试问题都比较容易预测,认真准备是很有帮助的。

-->Technical/Scientific Manager

这个一般是公司的第二轮或者第三轮面试,就是在HR选好那10个人给了manager之后再进行的面试了。、

申请研究生和老板面试也有点类似这种,主要针对经验技术等问题进行的面试,基本上就是拼实力了。

interview分类:根据形式分类

1. One-to-One interview

这类就是最最最普通的2个人面对面的interview了一般是问答形式或者是聊天形式

2. Panel Interview

多个面试人一个被面试人有被轮番轰炸的感觉。。。不过就是one-to-one的多人版本问题的内容一般也比较普通

3. Lunch/Dinner Interview

这种我自己还没试过据说是一边吃一边聊大概是比较熟悉的人介绍的而且是比较高水平的工作(我就是怀疑这能吃下去么orz)

4. Telephone/Videoconference Interview

这种就是不能当面面试的替代版

坏处很明显就是不能面对面很多non-verbal信息包括表情手势之类的看不到而且看不到对方容易紧张电话线路之类的会导致英语交流更加困难等等

但也有一个明显的好处因为不是面对面所以带notes 可以事先准备好cheat sheet

5. MMI (Mutiple Mini Interview)

这种面试比较变态,多发生在professional school的申请上,比如MD,DMD一类。有的大公司招新毕业生作为人才储备的也有可能有类似情况。顾名思义就是5-10个分点,每个点有1-2个问题侧重不同方向,被面试人挨个走过去回答然后各个分点打分。这种面试适合用来对付很多人而且需要量化分数的面试。

6. Presentation

这一种面试在学术界里相对多见,基本上类似于研究生开题报告。申请研究生,postdoc 工作等学术界的高等工作可能会需要应付此类面试。有的时候大公司招聘人才储备也可能要求presentation。

这类面试的缺点很明显,就是压力。基本上是要面对整个公司/学校/研究机构的几乎所有学术高层,演讲完任何人可能问任何问题,不确定性很大。

但好处是,因为是自己准备,所以内容是自己最熟悉最有把握的部分,往往自己的了解比别人都深刻的多。

interview分类:根据问题内容分类(每个问题只举几个例子sample问题列表见后)

1. Traditional

这类就是最传统最传统的面试问题,你能想到的最直接的那些问题

比如why do you want this job, why do you want to go to graduate school一类的

此类问题的目的主要是看被面试人是否对这个项目/职位有足够的了解,是否对自己有一个好的规划,是否适合这个项目/职位等等。

2. Technical

这类一般来自教授或者公司technical manager,和你的专业知识以及申请的项目/工作直接相关

比如what is the mechanism of XXX? what are different types of XXX? what do you need to consider when design XXX?

显然这类问题的目的就是考察被面试人的工作经验和专业知识。

3. Behavioural

这类问题比较tricky,要求回答问题时用经历来说明一些问题。

比如tell me a time when you had conflict with your co-worker and how you solved the problem 可以看出这类问题的目的是考察被面试人有没有某种能力(time management, leadership, team work等等)但又需要被面试人用自己的经历来说明自己的能力

4. Situational

这类问题往往设想一个情况,然后要求被面试人根据这个情况作出决策或反应。

最常见的模式是what would you do if....

问题的目的是考察被面试人是否有应变能力以及是否了解这个工作的意义所在等

5. Impossible

这类问题比较少见,但某些和思维联系紧密的工作可能会有出现(比如微软cs工作面试)。比如How many golf ball fits into a 747 aircraft?

这类问题没有绝对的对错但会在过程中体现被面试人的思维活跃度和面对问题的思维过程6. Illegal questions

一般不多见,但当你觉得某些问题很offensive的时候,可能就有illegal的倾向了

比如Are you married? How old are you?

这类问题一般是无意所为。后面会讲如何对应这些问题

如何准备interview

1. 判断interview的对象

这个问题经常被同学们忽视。很多同学在求助问如何准备interview的时候没有说出究竟是和谁interview,一方面可能没有意识到这个问题的重要性,另一方面可能自己都不清楚。但这是个非常重要的问题,可以直接影响到问题的内容,回答的方式和对方对你回答的期待。一般来说这个问题不是很难解决。

申请graduate school的同学们,如果申请的是科研式的项目,那么在联系教授之后教授可能会提出要面试,那么这种面试就一定是和教授本人。或者在提交晚上申请后教授看到你的资料,认为你是不错的人选,可能自己邮件或者由学院小米邮件联系你预约面试,一般来说面试人的身份会清楚地写在邮件里。

申请非科研式项目的同学,一般授课式项目,尤其是商科项目的面试往往都是和coordinator 而不是教授。没有导师的项目一般都是coordinator. MBA, coop项目等等也都会是coordinator. 申请工作的那显然就是和公司负责人了,具体是HR还是manager一般也会说明。如果邮件中不清楚,可以到公司网站或者linkedin或者直接google姓名和公司名搜索。

2. 判断interview的形式和内容

interview的形式一般是最显然的,或者是当面或者是电话,这个不需要过多解释。interview的内容往往是大家关注的对象,也是大家最担心和问题最多的部分,而这部分又和对象联系很紧密。帖子2楼提到了各个对象喜欢问的问题,按照可能性和重要性总结如下: *教授: Traditional=Technical>>Behavioural

3. 充分了解对方

为什么要了解对方呢?最直接的原因是,因为面试中问的问题一定是和对方有关的。只有了解对方才能给出最合适的回答。

以下根据面试对象分类总结一些需要特殊关注的问题

*教授:研究方向,正在进行的项目,可能用到的技术/方法/软件,最近发表文章,重要文章,文章中提到的以后的研究方向等等

*program coordinator:申请项目的目标是什么,旨在培养什么样的人,项目需要申请人有哪些能力和经验,对录取者有哪些要求,学制和课程安排,毕业出路等等

*公司面试:公司是做什么的,申请的这个工作的部门是做什么的,这个工作是做什么的,和你面试的这个manager有什么技术背景,可能用到的技术/方法/软件,团队合作还是个人完成,最近新闻/发表/报告等等

在哪里获得这些信息呢?

*教授:学校网站,发表文章,会议演讲

*program coordinator: 学校网站

*公司面试:公司网站,新闻/发表/报告(google之),linkedin

4. 推测可能出现的问题进行思考

既然前面已经把问题分类了也总结出了各种类型的interview喜欢问什么样子的问题那接下来就是思考一下具体可能遇到的问题和怎么回答了

可能遇到的问题这个帖子里给出一个列表仅供大家参考很多问题会有很多变化形式大家可以自己根据情况发散

Translation: Please confirm thatthere are no major reasons why we should not hire you BUT demonstrate that youare realistic about your short-comings.

What motivates you to do a good job?

Translation: Please confirm your sincere interest and tell me a little aboutyour personality – are you self-motivated or do you need structure. How do youmeasure your successes, do you set goals etc?

What are your strengths?

Tip: Use one or two academic examples and one/two personal attributes and back it up with examples. E.g. I have excellent time management skills as demonstrated by my ability to maintain an 85% average while working part time for….]

Tell me about a time when you had a conflict with someone and how you resolved it.

Tip: Set the scene briefly,they are more interested in how your resolved the conflict than what started it. Focus on what you learned from the experience.

Give me an example of when you’ve shown initiative

恒生银行interview面试经验分享 这是LZ第一次发面经,主要觉得恒生版块的面经太少了,所以想写个详细点的造福一下后来人~ LZ本来是下午2:15的场次,结果12点多就到了 本来想说先进去看一眼,然后出去吃个饭,再回来等一会基本就到我了 结果LZ刚看到签到台,工作人员就让我签到,签完到就说把东西放在椅子上,你可以进去了,LZ就想这是怎样啊?这就可以进去了? LZ还没准备好的说,然后就慢慢脱外套,还沉浸在刚才的腹诽中~

旁边的工作MM不乐意了,说快点,于是我就迅速把什么的准备好,就跟着MM进去了 进去后是个大厅,里面估计有6、7个interviewer,都是一对一,我进去的时候只有3、4个在面试,其他的估计在干别的吧 面我的HR GG人很nice,接我的简历的时候还站起来双手接过,让我受宠若惊了一番 然后就是正式的面试了,先是让我来段,我还很傻的问了句中文还是英文? ,HR GG说中文就行,顿时让我舒了口气,因为LZ 进去时,靠门边的一个MM正在流利的说着英语,因为LZ还没做好心理准备,结果这段说的差强人意 接下来就是些基本的问题:

为什么CCB? 为什么恒生? 恒生和其他外资银行有什么不同?(我估计这个问题是和我上一个问题有关) 三年内最成功的事? 有没有同时做好几件事的情况?怎么解决?实例 有没有突发状况打乱计划?怎么解决?实例这两个问题话说LZ 没想过啊,完全就在那想到什么说什么 然后稍微问了一下实习经历

中间穿插着聊了一下其他的,都很短 然后就差不多了,HR GG就说我没有什么问题了,两周给回复 然后LZ就出去了,整个过程15分钟左右吧,问题都很基本,好好准备就差不多,可惜LZ只想到了部分 这是LZ第一次单面,权当积累吧~

一.C ase Interview 1.类型介绍 (1) 什么是Case Interview? 一般来说,Case Interview主要针对咨询公司面试而言。也有一些公司如Dell二面会用一些小case来考察面试者的应变能力、考虑问题的全面性以及逻辑分析能力。咨询公司的Case Interview可以分成两个部分,一开始先是Warm-up。在这一部分,你可能需要自我介绍,然后大致回答一下面试官针对简历以及个人选择提出的一些问题。接下来才是真正的Case Interview。简而言之,Case Interview就是现场对一个商业问题进行分析的面试。但是和大多数其他面试不同,这是一个互动的过程。你的面试官会给你提出一个Business Issue,并且会让你给出分析和意见。而你的任务是向面试官有逻辑的提出一些问题以使得你能够对这个Business Issue有更全面,更细致的了解,并且通过系统的分析最后给出建议。一般而言,Case Interview是没有绝对正确的答案的。面试官看重的不是答案,而是从面试过程当中你表现出来的分析能力和创造力。对于大学毕业,没有工作经验的学生来说,大多数情况下Case 不会很难,也不会需要你对那个行业有系统的了解。 Case Interview一般是一对一的,一轮会有两个Case Interview,由两个不同的面试官来负责,每个Interview持续45分钟,包括10-15分钟的warm-up以及一些Behavior questions,剩下的30分钟就是讨论Case。10-15分钟的Warm-up一般用英文,Case可能是英文,也有可能是中文,不同的公司以及不同的面试官对语言是有不同的偏好的。 (2) 为什么使用Case Interview? 由于咨询师在工作上的不少时间都是在和客户以及同事进行相互的沟通,同时咨询工作本身的特点要求咨询师必须具备一系列的特质才能够成功。这些特质包括:在压力之下保持冷静,对问题能够很快的根据细节建立假设,并且运用很强的逻辑分析能力来解决问题等等。因此,一个互动性很强,和实际联系很紧以及要求分析能力较高的Case Interview可以很好的衡量面试者的这些素质。 (3) Case Interview考察哪些能力和素质 咨询师常常需要独立工作,并且带领团队和客户去达成共同的目标,因此领导力对于一个成功的咨询师来说是很重要的。在面试当中,你需要通过主动掌握整个面试,有信心的
