The study of h ow genes and environment interact to influence 48 activity is known as behavioral genet ics. Behavioral genetics has made important 49 to the biological revolution, providing in formation about the extent to which biology influences mind, brain and behavior. Any research that suggests that 50 to perform certain behaviors are based in biology is contro versial. When we think of green buildings, we tend to think of new ones-the kind of high-tech, solar-paneled masterpieces that make the covers of architecture magazines. But the U.S. has more than 100 million existing homes, and it would be (47)_________wasteful to tear them all down and (48)______them with greener versions. An enormous amount of energy and resources went into the construction of those houses. And it would take an average of 65 years for the (49)_________carbon emissions from a new energy-efficient home to make up for the resources lost by destroying an old one. So in the broadest (50)_____________, the greatest home is the one that has already been built . But at the same time, nearly half of U.S. carbon emissions come from heating, cooling, and (51)_______our homes, offices, and other buildings. “you can’t deal with climate change without dealing with existing buildings,”says Richard Moe, the president of the National Trust.

With some (52)________, the oldest homes tend to be the least energy-efficient. House built before 1939 use about 50% more energy per square foot than those built after 2000, mainly due to the tiny cracks and gaps that (53)________ over time and let in more outside air.

Fortunately, there are a (54)________ number of relatively simple changes that can green older home, from (55)___________ones like Lincoln’s Cottage to your own postwar home. And efficiency upgrades can save more than just the earth.; they can help

(56)____________property owners from rising power costs.

A ) accommodations B) clumsy C) doubtfully D) exceptions E) expand F) historic G) incredibly H) powering I) project J) reduced K)replace L) sense

M) shifted N) supplying O) vast

47.需要副词来修饰形容词wasteful,副词只有两个备选项,从含义推断,表示浪费的程度巨大,故而只能选择G;

48.根据and面的结构可以看出需要一个动词,并且此动词必须能与with构成固定搭配,而动词备选项有三,能与with进行搭配且语义符合的只有replace 表示用什么来代替之意;

49.The ______carbon emissions. 很明显缺少一个形容词,来修饰后面的碳排放物这一名词短语,从前后句的意思比较来看,“新建的绿色建筑通过削减碳排放物来抵消拆毁老房屋所所耗费的资源平均至少需要65年”,J 便是最佳选项;

50.In the broadest_____, 这也是口语中常用的一种表达,这里缺少一个被broadest 修饰的名词,指的是从广义的角度来看。可以说它是一个固定搭配,选择L sense;

51.利用文章中的结构来推断,便可解决此题,看and前面用的是heating, cooling,可以推断出所缺的词与前两词性相当且功能相当,缺一个以ing结尾的形容词,综观15个选项中,只有H和N,从意思的匹配来看powering提供电能,正合题意;

52. with some_____, 介词结构,空格处显然缺的是一个名词,三个名词已经被用掉一个,还剩accommodations和exceptions,判断完词性后,我们来分析意思,从二段开始讲述的是以前建造的房子都不是节能型的,正好与第一段形成一个对比,故而可以得出此空应填D exceptions;

53. that _____ over time and let in more outside air. 本句是一个的定语从句,再看and 后面连接的一部分,基本可以得出去的是一个动词,它讲的是缝隙变大,使得外面的风能够刮进来,动词protect可以彻底被排除在外,只剩下了expand;

54. a ___ number of 缺少一个形容词来修饰短语,表示程度或数量大的,这一空比较简单O vast 非它不可;

55. from ______ ones like Lincoln’s Cottage,ones

年代久远的房子,缺少是一个表示时间比较久的形容词,F historic当仁不让;

In families with two working parents, fathers may have more impact on a child's language development than mothers, a new study suggests.

Researchers 47 92 families form 11 child care centers before their children were a year old, interviewing each to establish income, level of education and child care arrangements. Overall, it was a group of well-class families, with married parents both living in the home.

When the children were 2, researchers videotaped them at home in free-play sessions with both parents, 48 all of their speech. The study will appear in the November issue of The Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology.

The scientists measured the 49 number of utterance (话语) of the parents, the number of different words they used, the complexity of their sentences and other 50 of their speech. On average, fathers spoke less than mothers did, but they did not differ in the length of utterances or proportion of questions asked.

Finally, the researchers 51 the children's speech at age 3, using a standardized language test. The only predictors of high scores on the test were the mother's level of education, the 52 of child care and the number of different words the father used.

The researchers are 53 why the father's speech, and not the mother's, had an effect."It's well 54 that the mother's language does have an impact," said Nadya Pancsofar, the lead author of the study. It could be that the high-functioning mothers in the study had 55 had a strong influence on their children's speech development, Ms. Pancsofar said, "or it may be that mothers are 56 in a way we didn't measure in the study."

Every year in the first week of my English class, some students inform me that writhing is too hard. They never write, unless assignments 47 it . They fine the writing process 48 and difficult.

How awful to be able to speak in a language but not to write in it- 49 English , with its rich vocabulary . Being able to speak but not write is like living in an 50 mansion(豪宅) and never leaving one small room . When I meet students who think they can’t write, I know as a teacher my 51 is to show them the rest of the rooms . My task is to build fluency while providing the opportunity inherent in any writing activity to 52 the moral and emotional development of my students . One great way to do this is by having students write in a journal in class every day.

Writing ability is like strength training. Writing needs to be done 53 , just like exercise ; just as muscles grow stronger with exercise , writing skills improve quickly with writing practice. I often see a rise in student confidence and 54 after only a few weeks of journal writing .

Expressing oneself in writing is one of the most important skills I teach to strengthen the whole student. When my students practice journal writing, they are practicing for their future academic, political, and 55 lives . They build skills so that some day they might write a great novel, a piece of sorely needed legislation, or the perfect love letter. Every day that they write in their journals puts them a step 56 to fluency , eloquence (雄辩), and command of language .

With the rapid development of China’s economy in the 21th century, both public and private schools

in America are scrambling to add Mandarin to their curricula of foreign languages or expanding Chinese language programs already in place. By some estimates, as many as 50 000 children nationwide are taking Mandarin in American schools. To develop Chinese-language programs has met some difficulties. A shortage of professionally trained teachers with certificates has made it difficult for some schools to join the competition. When schools need to employ teachers, they often recruit them from China directly, which is a hidden trouble for culture clash.

Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage All the following statements are mentioned in the passage except that_____________ According to the passage,who(when,where,what,why,etc。) The major point discussed in the passage is____________ The best title for this passage would be________________ The passage tells us___________ The author’s purpose in writing this passage is to_______ 3)词义推测题 The phrase“…………。”most probably means__________ The phrase“…………。.”in the context means___________ The word“……………”in Line X refers to_____________ Which of the following is closest in meaning to the sentence“…………” 4)推论题 It can be inferred/indicated from the passage that___________ It can be concluded from the passage that___________________ What is the author’s attitude towards the………。 The example of…………is given to illustrate that____________- 在了解完题型分类之后,我们就要弄清做题顺序。

A novel way of making computer memories,using bacteria FOR half a century,the(1)__________of progress in the computer industry has been to do more with less.Moore's law famously observes that the number of transistors which can be crammed into a given space(2)__________ every 18 months. The amount of data that can be stored has grown at a similar rate. Yet as(3)__________ get smaller,making them gets harder and more expensive. On May 10th Paul Otellini,the boss of Intel,a big American chipmaker,put the price of a new chip factory at around $10 billion. Happily for those that lack Intel's resources,there may be a cheaper option—namely to mimic Mother Nature, who has been building tiny(4)__________,in the form of living cells and their components,for billions of years,and has thus got rather good at it. A paper published in Small,a nanotechnology journal,sets out the latest example of the(5)__________. In it,a group of researchers led by Sarah Staniland at the University of Leeds,in Britain,describe using naturally occurring proteins to make arrays of tiny magnets,similar to those employed to store information in disk drives.The researchers took their(6)__________ from Magnetospirillum magneticum,a bacterium that is sensitive to the Earth's magnetic field thanks to the presence within its cells of flecks of magnetite,a form of iron oxide. Previous work has isolated the protein that makes these miniature compasses. Using genetic engineering,the team managed to persuade a different bacterium—Escherichia coli,a ubiquitous critter that is a workhorse of biotechnology—to(7)__________ this protein in bulk. Next,they imprinted a block of gold with a microscopic chessboard pattern of chemicals. Half the squares contained anchoring points for the protein. The other half were left untreated as controls. They then dipped the gold into a solution containing the protein,allowing it to bind to the treated squares,and dunked the whole lot into a heated(8)__________ of iron salts. After that,they examined the results with an electron microscope. Sure enough,groups of magnetite grains had materialised on the treated squares,shepherded into place by the bacterial protein. In principle,each of these magnetic domains could store the one or the zero of a bit of information,according to how it was polarised.

48. By promoting “body activism,” University of Texas psychologists aim to prevent ________. What is surprising is the method psychologists at the University of Texas have come up with to keep girls from developing eating disorders. Their main weapon against super skinny (role) models: a brand of civil disobedience dubbed “body activism.”
