A 10th new planet has been discovered by American astronomers. It is the largest object found in orbit around the sun since the discovery of Neptune and its satellite Triton some 160 years ago. It is larger than Pluto, and is about 97 times farther from the sun than Earth.

A solar eclipse happens when the moon, on its trip around the earth, passes directly between the sun and the earth, preventing rays of the sun from reaching the earth and causing a temporary darkening of the sun. A solar eclipse can last as long as seven and a half minutes. The solar eclipse can be a partial one or a total one. During the 20th century alone, 228 solar eclipses took place, and most of them were partial ones. “The Eclipse of the Century” that took place in 1991 was a total one. The shadow of the moon spread a path of darkness across the land from Hawaii to South America.
