Oh November 16, 2014 Peking University released a list of 39 high school principals in 2014 provinces who have the chance to recommend students. If the students recommended pass a round of interviews by Peking University, they will have an extra 30 points added to their national college entrance exam scores if they apply to the university after the exam. Peking University said the reason behind the move was a desire to give students with comprehensive and special abilities a chance to stand out.

However, a survey conducted by leading Chinese web portal sina. Com showed 2014,046 out of 14,227 people surveyed were against the new idea. Most said the recommendations were unfair on other students. Xue Yong, a Peking University alumni who is now an assistant professor at Suffolk University, told Qianjiang Evening News the experiment could be dangerous if it is abused. But Qu Jun, former deputy director of Shanghai municipal education commission, said the experiment represents much needed change to the existing university entrance system, which had been criticized for years.

I am one of those who are against the program.

First of all, justice is in doubt when it comes to which school is qualified for the recommendation.As the privilege is restricted to 39 middle schools, students from less renowned ones

that are not granted the right would surely have fewer

opportunities.

Secondly, the purpose of the program may not be realized.A survey shows that the chosen schools tend to recommend the best of their students, who do perfectly well in exams and do not need recommendation at all.In my opinion, the value of such a system is that candidates who are gifted in some fields but may fail the regular entrance examination can go to Peking University.As a matter of fact, the university may not get what it wants.

Therefore, in order to make sure that excellent students with special talents can enter universities, which in turn encourages high schools to help train such students, we need more creative and efficient reforms in our education system.
