Growing Pains

Teenagers are caught between a desire for independence and an sctual need for parnting, protection and their proper guidance.

Some are willing to rely on their parents, because they believe in their parents and regard them as good teachers both in life and study. While other teens feel angry about dependence because they think it is an admission of weakness. They are developing the ability to be independent.

It is not unuaual for teens to react with anger or rebellion(叛逆) at seemingly innocent suggestions or comments from parents. This anger is often expressed in comments such as, “My parents won’t let me grow up,” or “They treat me like a child.”

Teenagers question their parnts’s ideas. They no longer think their parents have all the answers. Sometimes teenagers are too proud of themselves. They complain that their parents are old fashioned, or don’t know what’s going on and can’t keep up with times.

It is said that our school is going to employ an American teacher. We discussed it at English Corner. Most of us are for it, because with his or her help we can learn real English. Especially we can improve our spoken English and we will be more and more interested in learning English. But some of us think that an American teacher doesn’t know Chinese school education very well and may not know how to teach Chinese students. And they are also worried that some students can’t understand him or her well. In my opinion, it will be of great help to have an American teacher, though we may meet some difficulties at first.

基础写作二：

We middle school students have had many tests or exams. We have both achieved success and suffered from failure. Different students may take different attitudes to failure.

Some students fall in low spirits when they don't do well in the exams. They usually lose heart and no longer study hard as before. However, most students take an active attitude towards failure. They encourage themselves to be self-confident. They find out and analyze the causes so that they will no longer make similar mistakes. I agree with those with active attitudes. As we all know, failure is the mother of success. Even great men had failed many times before they succeeded. So we must deal with our failure correctly.

Some of us think that it is better to see the film than to read the book in the original. The reason is that it takes less time to understand the whole story; moreover, the film is usually more interesting, and it is easier to follow.

Some others have just the opposite opinion, considering that they can get more detailed information from the original. Meanwhile, the language in the book is possibly more lively and beautiful.

Personally, I agree with the second view and actually I have more reasons for it. I think I can stay at home, reading quietly in a situation of my own, and what’s more, I am able to better understand the author’s ideas. In a word, to read the original work is bett er than to see the film based on it

To Be Dependent or Independent

The passage mainly tells us the pains of teenagers during their growth. Some seek to be independent from their parnts as early as possible, while others hold the opposite opinion.

Some teenagers think independence is a good way to gain living skills to survive by themselves, so they wouldn’t like to form the habit to ask their parnts when coming across any problems but want to be encouraged to solve problems individually and independently.

Others think they are still young, and they are the only child in the family. They needn’t worry too much about their future because they believe in their parents that eveything could be well disigned.

I’m in favor of the first question, parents should try to let their children think about their own affaires and make their own decissins so that their creativity could be developed and give some proper guidance when needed.
