青岛简介

青岛位于太平洋西岸、中国山东半岛南部（东经119°30’～121°00’、北纬35°35’～37°09’），东、南濒临黄海，西、北连接内陆。陆地面积11282平方公里，海域面积12240平方公里，常住人口929万人。现辖市南、市北、李沧、崂山、黄岛、城阳、即墨7个区和胶州、平度、莱西3个县级市。

Qingdao (formerly spelled Tsingtao) is a city on the west shore of the Pacific Ocean. Lying on the southern coast of China’s Shandong Peninsula, the city faces the Yellow Sea to the south and east, and borders inland areas of Shandong Province to the north and west.

Qingdao covers a land area of 11,282 square kilometers and a sea area of 12,240 square kilometers, stretching in latitude from 35°35’ to 37° 09’ N and in longitude from 119°30’ to 121°00’ E.

The city has a resident population of 9.29 million and has jurisdiction over seven districts, i.e. Shinan, Shibei, Licang, Laoshan, Huangdao, Chengyang and Jimo, and three county-level cities of Jiaozhou, Pingdu and Laixi.

Qingdao is steeped in rich historical and cultural heritage and is widely recognized as a cradle of Taoism. The earliest human settlement in Qingdao can be traced back to as early as 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, leaving behind a legacy of Neolithic cultural relics.

Two of its precincts are included on China’s official list of “Renowned Streets of Cultural and Historical Significance”. Qingdao has 144 historical sites or monuments recognized and protected by the cultural heritage administration authority at the national, provincial or municipal level. It has been selected as one of the “Culture Citi es of East Asia”.

Qingdao has long been reputed as a favored location for the filming of movies and television series and a “city of music”. In 2017, the city was designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to join its Creative Cities Network (UCCN) as a

“City of Film”. It is the first Chinese city to have been so named.

Qingdao has hosted the China International Children’s Film Festival, China International Violin Competition, and Golden Phoenix Award Ceremony of the China Film Performance Art Academy. The Oriental Movie Metropolis, a premium film industry complex with a total investment of 50 billion RMB yuan, was officially inaugurated in April 2018 in Qingdao.

Qingdao is one of China’s first coastal cities opening to the outside world. T o date, the city has established sister-city relations or other forms of cooperation with 70 cities of other countries. More than 2,000 international trading companies, businesses and financial institutions have opened permanent branches or offices in the city. In 2017, Qingdao’s imports and exports totaled 503.35 billion RMB yuan, and the paid-in foreign direct investment rose to 7.74 billion US dollars.

Taking an active part in the Belt and Road Initiative, Qingdao has been designated as a hub along the economic corridor of the New Eurasian Land Bridge and a strategic seaport city for maritime cooperation. In 2014, Qingdao was approved as a national pilot zone for comprehensive financial reform with a focus on wealth management business.

Qingdao is one of China’s regional economic centers, one of China’s top five seaports for international trade, and a maritime transportation hub. In 2017, its gross domestic product exceeded 1.1 trillion RMB yuan and its public budgetary revenues amounted to 115.7 billion RMB yuan.

A number of China’s top-ranking enterprises, such as Haier, Hisense, Double Star, Aucma, Tsingtao Brewery and CRRC Sifang, are headquartered in Qingdao, and their products are household names. The city has 123 of China’s “time-honored trademarks”.

The Qingdao port has shipping links with over 700 ports worldwide. In 2017, its cargo throughput topped 500 million metric tons. The Qingdao airport serves flights to 186 domestic and international destinations. In 2017, it handled 23.21 million passengers.

Qingdao is one of the best-known tourist destinations in China. It has a 863-kilometer-long coastline dotted with 49 bays and 69 islets. Its indented coastline, temperate monsoon climate and headland-bay beaches are ideal for holiday-making, sightseeing and for meetings,

incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE).

Qingdao’s perpetual cityscape is characterized by “red roofs nestling in green foliage” and “the blue sea meeting the azure sky”. The Badaguan (Eight Great Passes) Scenic Area is renowned as a “museum of world architectural styles”. Mount Lao is China’s highest coastal mountain.

Over 100 exhibitions and conventions are held in Qingdao every year, including the Qingdao International Beer Festival and China International Consumer Electronics Show. In 2017, the city received more than 88 million visitors from home and abroad.

青岛是重要的奥运城市、中国的“帆船之都”。2008年第29届北京奥运会和第13届残奥会帆船比赛在青岛举办。之后，沃尔沃环球帆船赛、克利伯环球帆船赛、国际帆船联合会世界杯帆船赛等重要帆船比赛相继在青岛举办，每年8月举办青岛国际帆船周。

Qingdao is also an Olympic city and China’s “sailing capital”. I t was the venue for sailing competition of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad and the XIII Paralympic Games in 2008. Building on its Olympic success, the city hosted a series of sailing events including the Volvo Ocean Race,

Clipper Round the World Yacht Race and ISAF Sailing World Cup. It also launched a Qingdao International Sailing Week, which has become an annual festival celebrated every August since 2009.

Qingdao is China’s leading city for marine science and technology (MST), and a champion of the blue economy. It is the seat of the Ocean University of China, Qingdao National MST Laboratory, and National Deep Sea Center, which all serve as national platforms for innovation. The city of Qingdao boasts 30 percent of China’s marine research institutions, 50 percent of elite Chinese marine scientists and 70 percent of the members specialized in MST at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

It should be noted that the five major waves of development of sea farming industry in China were all started in Qingdao. Since the central

government’s approval of the Shandong Peninsula as a blue economic zone in January 2011, Qingdao has been a leading player in the core area of this zone.

In 2014, Qingdao’s West Coast New Area was officially designated as China’s ninth State-level New Area mandated to take the lead in implementing China’s maritime strategy and develop the marine economy.
