On Maintaining Trust

Trust is the most frequently used word when we are talking about interpersonal relationships. However, it is hard to build trust but easy to destroy it. Therefore,

how to build and maintain trust is very important for us. In my opinion, some factors play a primary role in it.

First comes honesty. There’s an old saying in Chinese: once bitten, twice shy. Thus, never lie to your partners. If they find out you’re lying or cheating, the existing trust will be broken. Once broken, it’s always hard to rebuild it. Promise-keeping is the second one. If you always break your promise, you will not be trusted by others any more. Another important aspect is attitude. People with good attitude are always welcome. They show their good manners, patience, modesty, willingness to communicate and, most important of all, sincerity to others, which contributes greatly to eliminating apathy and coldness.

There are, still, other influential factors. However, from my perspective, honesty, promise-keeping and good attitude stand out among them.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: Turn off Your Cell Phone. You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

1、手机给我们的生活带来了便利。

2、但是手机铃声也会影响其他人。

3、在某些场合请关掉你的手机。

Turn off Your Cell Phone

With the development of information technology and reduced price of communication products, the mobile phone has become a necessity for most people. Obviously, it shortens the distance between people and makes our life more convenient. Thanks to the cell phone, it’s easy for us to contact or be contacted by others anytime and anywhere. We will never miss any important meetings, great deals or admirable opportunities.

However, have you noticed sometimes the cell phone also brings embarrassment to us? It’s not rare to see someone pressing the cell phone to his ear and shouting loudly in public as if there were no one else present. And I’m sure each one has had such an experience that th e cell phone ring continuously on a formal occasion. Perhaps these people have many

life-and-death reasons to keep the phone working at all times, but it interrupts people around them who have to hear what they don’t care when they want to concentrate on w hat they’re doing.

So if you are one of them, please shut off your cell phone in public, especially on a quiet and serious occasion. It’s a respect for both others and yourself.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: The Post-graduate Craze. You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

1、目前很多人报考研究生。

The Post-graduate Craze

Each year, millions of college students will sit in for the post-graduate entrance examination. More and more students have regarded the pursuing of a master degree as an indispensable part of their education.

What is to account for their enthusiasm for a post-graduate diploma? First, it is the demand of the time. In an age of knowledge updating and information explosion, what you have learned in college can hardly meet the demand of society. Talents of high quality who are equipped with the latest knowledge and skill will be needed more than ever. That is why many students will further their studies.

Second, we all recognize that the more education you have, the more likely you are to succeed. Compared with those without a master degree, masters will enjoy more preferential treatment, for example, better salaries, more

opportunities for promotion and training. A post-graduate degree can guarantee a more promising career.

Last but not least, with the graduation of a large number of college students, competition for jobs becomes more and more fierce. One way to gain some advantage over others is to have a higher degree.

No wonder millions of students will consider pursuing a post-graduate degree.

How to improve psychological health?

As is known to all, psychological health is as important as, if not more important than, physical health for a student during his/her growth. However, it’s quite worrying that nowadays some students are not quite psychologically healthy.

Undoubtedly, schools and universities should take great account in the responsibilities of students’ psychological health. Relevant courses and activities should be introduced to students so that they would be more aware of the significance of psychological health and find appropriate ways to maintain and improve it. For example, there should be a psychological counseling hotline or office for students to turn to when they need some psychological aid.

Of course no psychological health can be obtained without the efforts from the students themselves. From my perspective, what they can do is trying to stay positive, optimistic and follow the right guidelines from their schools. To be more specific, they can participate in some activities such as voluntary work to cultivate an opening and caring mind. Meanwhile, harmful impacts from the cyber space should definitely be avoided.

How to improve student's mental health

1、大学生的心理健康十分重要

2、因此,学校可以......

3、我们自己应当......

Students' mental health has been playing an increasingly important role in our day-to-day life. Indeed, it is widely accepted that it has gained growing popularity among persons in all walks of life. There is a general discussion today about the issue of disorder in brains.

Obviously, it is necessary that effective actions should be taken to prevent problems. Authorities in universities play a critical role in the situation. To begin with, schools, such as colleges or universities, can provide chances for the young men to ease their attention. What's more, some are physically strong, but psychological problems are able to bring potential threats. Teaches may have a chance to find them in advance. Besides, specialists in this field are to be required to make full preparation for cases in time. Facing the crisis, experts can deal with it in a

professional way, which means they have more or better opportunities to save us than others. (学校)

From the factors mentioned above, we may safely draw the conclusion that we can free ourselves from mental illness by taking certain precautions. For example, if you have pains or puzzles in mind, finding a friend to express these is a good way to release pressure. Certainly, there is little doubt that further attention will be paid to the issue.(我们)

On the Importance of a Name

有人认为名字(名称)不重要;

有人认为非常重要;

你认为呢?

On the Importance of a Name

A name is the representation of a person or an entity. It plays an important role in social recognition, just as the old saying goes: a thing is the entity of a name. However, people have diverse opinions on the importance of a name. Some people say that name is important, while the others maintain the other way round. But I think name is of great importance because it is the symbol that distinguishes one thing or person from the others.

We cannot deny the importance of a name, be it for a person or a thing. In the world today, no one can live without identification because they must get social recognition, and name is the symbol of the identification. Once a person or a thing gets social recognition, people will remember their names, and they will get further improvement. Besides, a good name will bring people some nice association. A person with a special name may be easily accepted by a group or a community because of the deep impression the name leaves.

As for companies or products, a name is also vitally important. Years ago, a computer company spent millions of dollars for the name “Acer”. Since then, the company caught the attention of potential customers and became one of giants in the field. However, another company was facing bankruptcy, for the name of its product implies unfavorable meaning thus cannot be sold out. Can we say that name is not important?

A name may affect the whole life of a person, and a name may also influence the future of a company and its products. Therefore, we must treat names carefully.

Should Parents Send Their Kids to Art Classes

Children are the future of the nation, the pearl in their parents’ eyes. Hoping that their kids

can become the cream of the crop among others, more and more parents send their kids to various art classes to let them learn more. However, people hold different opinions toward this phenomenon。

Some people hold a firm position that it is a beneficial thing for kids to attend art classes. There, kids can not only learn some art skills that may helpful for them someday, they can also get a chance to expand their interests to a great extent, and their minds can also be broadened. Besides, kids can also make a lot of friends there, thus their communication skills may also be sharpened. While for the others, they hold an opposite opinion. They think parents should not send their kids to art classes blindly against kids’ will, because this will get a definitely negative impact on kids. Kids, in thes e parents’ eyes, should be given more flexible time to relax and do whatever they are interested in. And kids also need freedom because unacceptable art classes will absolutely eliminate the nature of kids. Thus, sending kids to these classes will undoubtedly hurt them。

Every coin has two sides. As far as I am concerned, I think children’s interests should be taken into careful consideration before being sent to art classes. Children should be given enough freedom to develop by themselves. Whether parents should send their kids to art classes, it depends。

DueAttention Should Be Given To the Study of Chinese

范文:

Along with the step of globalization, moststudents’ attention has shifted from Chinese to foreign cultures. Such a shiftbrought on great worries among people because it is not good for thedevelopment of Chinese culture。

There may be several reasons account forwhy this phenomenon could happen. First and foremost, the globalization greatlystimulated the spread of foreign cultures, which in turn stirred great interestamong Chinese students; second, college students are, to some extent, forced tostudy certain foreign languages so as to pass exams or find good jobs so thatthey could not spare any time to study Chinese; last but not least, schoolshave no strict demand on students’ Chinese standard. No doubt, neglecting thestudy of Chinese will ultimately hold back the development of Chinese culture, and Chinese people may lose their cultural identity in such a competitive world。

In order change this situation and save ouridentity, due attention should be given to the study of Chinese. To begin with, government should put great efforts on the development of Chinese culture tomake more people proud of it; besides, colleges and universities should makeexams more balanced, not simply emphasizing the importance of foreignlanguages; finally, schools should also attach great importance to the study ofChinese, making it a compulsory curriculum. Through these efforts, I think, chancesof changing this phenomenon are prosperous。

Nowadays , university and college ranking has become increasingly popular thoughout the nation. According to the survry conducted by China Daily , an estimated 85$ universities are closely

concerned about the ranking. In other words, we cannot fail to notice the obvious trend that university ranking has become a social focus , triggering a wide concerns across the nation, especially fromschool campuses.

A host of individuals are divided over this issue about university ranking . an army of folks deem that we are supposed to be concerned about the ranking because the ranking is the sole standard of measuring the school’s comprehensive level . Plus, when choosing the university for their kids, a growing number of parents take the ranking into account. However, others maintain that it’s not a wise and rational idea to view the university ranking as the only standard ,put in another way , we should not over-value the ranking. The ranking is the outward style of the university .

On my personal level, however, ranking matters much to a university , but enhancing the teaching and comprehensive quality is on the top of university’s priority, ranging from the faculty to teaching methods to teaching instruments and so forth . Only in these ways can we bulid up fast-paced and flagship university smoothly .

Certificate Craze

For the past year or two, the pursuit of various certificates has emerged as a gold rush across the Chinese landscape. According to a recent report released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, a leading think-tank in the Middle Kingdom, some 60 percent of individuals are keen on obtaining a great variety of certifications, ranging from Business English Certificate to diverse Professional Certificates. This is an intensely popular trend that we cannot afford to ignore。

Digging into this prevailing tide, we can identify that a couple of driving forces are at work, and the single most important one, on my personal level, is the mounting strain stemming from the cut-throat competition on the Chinese mainland. People's intentions are sharply different when pursuing a certificate. As far as the graduates are concerned, a host of students argue that diverse certificates can demonstrate their abilities and their competitive edge is hugely sharpened compared with their peers. Take a concrete example. Candidates holding a highly recognized certification will stand a much better chance of landing a decent and high-paying post. On the part of the white-collar staff, the professional certificates matter much in the course of progressing up the corporate ladder。

However, whether a certificate can truly reflect an individual's capability is widely questionable. As might be expected, folks are split over this issue. From my own perspective, we should be rational as to the craze of getting certificates. Most importantly, we are supposed to put honing our real skills at the top of the agenda. Only in this way can we hope to stay ahead of the increasingly stiff competition。

The Way to Success

Just as the old saying goes “Good beginning is half done”,illustrating the importance and

necessity of the preparation work on the condition that you have the longing for the success .A great proportion of individuals hold the view that preparation makes an essential part of in the process of achievement; on the contrary, the other parts of persons are in favor of the idea that the previous arrangement is a minor factor for success。

The essentiality of the preparation work is able to be accounted by the following example .As a matter of fact, the method accounts more than the results for the majority of situations, For instance, a student who wants to win outstanding academic performance ought to learn the effective and reasonable methods and approaches for memory and comprehension of the subjects such as physics, chemistry, mathematics and so on. The workers in the factories should learn to master the technique of operating the machines beforehand and in this way can they produce the qualified goods and merchandises。

Generally speaking ,Lincoln’s remark “give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four hours sharpening the axe ”reveals the imperative of make preparation .Undoubtedly, only by arranging beforehand can we achieve success whenever we face the perplexing and tough situations。(本范文收集整理自网上)

The Impact of the Internet on Interpersonal Communication

Today I saw an interesting cartoon, in which a father asked his daughter about her school performance of the day, and the daughter replied that he could go to her blog to check it. This small cartoon indicates a big change in our life, especially the way people communicate。

Internet enables people to break though the limitations of distance, strengthening social network. Unlike post offices, Internet service with its convenience helps people engage and converse real time with their parents, soul mates, friends though emails, IRC, micro blog anytime, anywhere with a network terminal, without suffering the long and painful wait for a reply。

Besides, such online communities as Twitter, Facebook are well under way and becoming the most dominating platforms for on-line social activities. These communities offer great opportunities for us to follow and interact with those we like and even those celebrities. It is also a platform for us to share and update information of each other, and learn the outside world。

Internet today and tomorrow is a virtual space where we live, where we learn, where we speak, and where we communicate。

范文一:On Maintaining Trust

Trust is a typical topic that every one of us is quite familiar with. However it has been giving much more emphasis nowadays because it is really in a critical time for us to appeal for maintaining trust between people.

As a side-effect of the prosperity of the market economy, the absence of trust is partly contributes to the dishonesty of some businessmen and manufacturers who make or sale shoddy and unqualified products to pursuit a bigger profit. It resulted in the untrusting between people. While the untrusting, in return, make it more difficult to pursuit a bigger profit for it takes more time and energy to convince people into buying their commodities. What’s worse, it may lose the potential

customers and result in its collapse. It goes for the interpersonal relationship. Can we imagine what it would look like if we live in a world without trust? It must be cold and misery. Therefore, it is high time for us to strengthen the importance of maintaining trust to create a better life.

范文二:On Maintaining Trust

Trust is crucial and indispensable in maintaining a relationship. Without trust, we cannot get along well with other people, let alone cooperate with them or get help from them. People are social animals. Without interacting with other people, life would be dull and meaningless. Nowadays, the whole society is faced with “credit crisis”. We become unwillingly to believe the governments, friends, colleagues and strangers. This poses a great threat to the building of a harmonious society. And sometimes, we even believed that we might be deceived if we trust too much. But in our everyday life, if we don’t trust other people, we could live i n torment. Since trust is of great significance, what should we do to improve our sense of trust? First of all, we cannot lie to those who trust us. Secondly, it’s never too late to apologize to others for our mistakes. What’s more, we should strike a trus t balance between ourselves and others. “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” should be our ultimate goal.

The perfect way to make a man trustworthy is to trust him, and to let him know that you trust him.(来源:网络

You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre Questions 21 to 25 are based on the following passage: More and more, the operations of our businesses, governments, and financial institutions are controlled by information that exists only inside computer memories. Anyone clever enough to modify this information for his own purposes can reap substantial rewards. Even worse, a number of people who have done this and been caught at it have managed to get away without punishment. It's easy for computer crimes to go undetected if no one checks up on what the computer is doing. But even if the crime is detected, the criminal may walk away not only unpunished but with a glowing recommendation from his former employers. Of course, we have no statistics on crimes that go undetected. But it's disturbing to note how many of the crimes we do know about were detected by accident, not by systematic inspections or other security procedures. The computer criminals who have been caught may be the victims of uncommonly bad luck. For example, a certain keypunch (键盘打孔) operator complained of having to stay overtime to punch extra cards. Investigation revealed that the extra cards she was being asked to punch were for dishonest transactions. In another case, dissatisfied employees of the thief tipped off (向……透露) the company that was being robbed. Unlike other lawbreakers, who must leave the country, commit suicide, or go to jail, computer criminals sometimes escape punishment, demanding not only that they not be charged but that they be given good recommendations and perhaps other benefits. All too often, their demands have been met. Why? Because company executives are afraid of the bad publicity that would result if the public found out that their computer had been misused. They hesitate at the thought of a criminal boasting in open court of how he juggled (耍弄) the most confidential records right under the noses of the company's executives, accountants,

20186月大学英语六级考试真题及答案及解析

2017年6月大学英语六级考试真题及答案解析(第一套) Part I Writing (30 minutes) Directions: Suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to attend a vocational college or a university, write an essay to state your opinion. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. 【参考范文】 Whether to Attend a Vocational College or a University? It’s an undisputable truth that virtually all high school graduates will encounter the choices between a vocational college and a university. And when it comes to this question, students’ ideas are not cut from the same cloth. In point of which to choose and what to be taken into consideration, my advices are as follow. In the first place, we should be conscious of the fact that both of the two choices have its own superiorities. For instance, a vocational college specializes in cultivating human resources with practical capabilities; while a university serves as the cradle of academic researchers in different fields. Then it does follow that high school graduates should have a clear picture of themselves. That is to say, they should know their merits and demerits and their choices must give play to their strengths whilst circumvent weaknesses. In addition, interest is the best teacher and it’s also the premise of learning on one’s own initiative. Thus interest must be taken into account because it can not only decide how far one can reach academically and professionally but also how happy and fulfilled one will be. In brief, all above just goes to show that there really is no one-size-fits-all answer for the question. The key lies in a clear cognition, accurate self-positioning and the interest of oneself. Only then can every one find a right path that works best for us. Part II Listening Comprehension (30 minutes) Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear two long conversations. Daughter: You can read all about it on my blog, Dad" The impact of the Internet on interpersonal communication In contemporary society, our life is filled with a variety of anecdotes or stories, and the following is no exception: "Dad:Hi sweetie, how was school, today? Daughter: You can read all about it on my blog, Dad." Funny as it seems, this conversation can be naturally associated with the impacts of Internet on our life: In an era of Internet, the time for interpersonal communication is impaired by online chats or blogs. Apparently, the impacts of the Internet on interpersonal communication are diverse. For one thing, as a vital invention, Internet brings great convenience to our communication, eliminates the barrier of distance, and helps humans to keep in touch wherever and whenever. For another, it is Internet that does not enables family members, friends or classmates to communicate more in a face-to-face way. One case in point is that youngsters may spend hours chatting with acquaintances through QQ or MSN, but rarely do they talk with other face to face. Unfortunately, it we let this trend to continue as it is, the interpersonal relationship will, definitely, become alienated. To my understanding, it is advisable for people to communicate more with their families, friends and acquaintances in real life instead of merely through the Internet. Do bear in mind: Internet is just a tool. 2011 年12 月英语六级作文题 Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled The Way to Success by commenting on Abraham Lincoln s famous remark, "Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend, the first four sharpening the axe." 2007年12月英语六级阅读真题及答案

2007年12月大学英语六级考试真题 Passage One Questions 52 to 56 are based on the following passage. Like most people, I’ve long understood that I will be judged by my occupation, that my profession is a gauge people use to see how smart or talented I am. Recently, however, I was disappointed to see that it also decides how I’m treated as a person. Last year I left a professional position as a small-town reporter and took a job waiting tables. As someone paid to serve food to people. I had customers say and do things to me I suspect they’d never say or do to their most casual acquaintances. One night a man talking on his cell phone waved me away, then beckoned (示意) me back with his finger minute later, complaining he was ready to order and asking where I’d been. I had waited tables during summers in college and was treated like a peon (勤杂工) plenty of people. But at 19 years old, I believed I deserved inferior treatment from professional adults. Besides, people responded to me differently after I told them I was in college. Customers would joke that one day I’d be sitting at their table, waiting to be served. Once I graduated I took a job at a community newspaper. From my first day, I heard a respectful tone from everyone who called me. I assumed this was the way the professional world worked — cordially. I soon found out differently. I sat several feet away from an advertising sales representative with a similar name. Our calls would often get mixed up and someone asking for Kristen would be transferred to Christie. The mistake was immediately evident. Perhaps it was because money was involved, but people used a tone with Kristen that they never used with me. My job title made people treat me with courtesy. So it was a shock to return to the restaurant industry. It’s no secret that there’s a lot to put up with when waiting tables, and fortunately, much of it can be easily forgotten when you pocket the tips. The service industry, by definition, exists to cater to others’ needs. Still, it seemed that many of my customers didn’t g et the difference between server and servant. I’m now applying to graduated school, which means someday I’ll return to a profession where people need to be nice to me in order to get what they want, I think I’ll take them to dinner first, and see how they treat someone whose only job is to serve them. 52. The author was disappointed to find that _______. [A] one’s position is used as a gauge to measure one’s intelligence [B] talented people like her should fail to get a respectable job [C] one’s occupation affects the way one is treated as a person [D] professionals tend to look down upon manual workers 53. What does the author intend to say by the example in the second paragraph? [A] Some customers simply show no respect to those who serve them. [B] People absorbed in a phone conversation tend to be absent-minded. [C] Waitresses are often treated by customers as casual acquaintances. 2011年6月大学英语六级阅读考试真题及答案_完美打印版

2011年6月大学英语六级真题及答案 Part IV Reading Comprehension (Reading in Depth) (25 minutes) Section A Directions: In this section, there is a short passage with 5 questions or incomplete statements. Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the statements in the fewest possible words. Please write your answers on Answer Sheet 2. Questions 47 to 51 are based on the following passage. How good are you at saying "no"? For many, it's surprisingly difficult. This is especially true of editors, who by nature tend to be eager and engaged participants in everything they do. Consider these scenarios: It's late in the day. That front-page package you've been working on is nearly complete; one last edit and it's finished. Enter the executive editor, who makes a suggestion requiring a more-than-modest rearrangement of the design and the addition of an information box. You want to scream: "No! It's done!" What do you do? The first rule of saying no to the boss is don't say no. She probably has something in mind when she makes suggestions, and it's up to you to find out what. The second rule is don't raise the stakes by challenging her authority. That issue is already decided. The third rule is to be ready to cite options and consequences. The boss's suggestions might be appropriate, but there are always consequences. She might not know about the pages backing up that need attention, or about the designer who had to go home sick. Tell her she can have what she wants, but explain the consequences. Understand what she's trying to accomplish and propose a Plan B that will make it happen without destroying what you've done so far. Here's another case. Your least-favorite reporter suggests a dumb story idea. This one should be easy, but it's not. If you say no, even politely, you risk inhibiting further ideas, not just from that reporter, but from others who heard that you turned down the idea. This scenario is common in newsrooms that lack a systematic way to filter story suggestions. Two steps are necessary. First, you need a system for how stories are proposed and reviewed. Reporters can tolerate rejection of their ideas if they believe they were given a fair hearing. Your gut reaction (本能反应) and dismissive rejection, even of a worthless idea, might not qualify as systematic or fair. Second, the people you work with need to negotiate a "What if ...?" agreement covering "What if my idea is turned down?" How are people expected to react? Is there an appeal process? Can they refine the idea and resubmit it? By anticipating "What if...?" situations before they happen, you can reach understanding that will help ease you out of confrontations. 47. Instead of directly saying no to your boss, you should find out __________. 48. The author's second warning is that we should avoid running a greater risk by __________. 49. One way of responding to your boss's suggestion is to explain the __________ to her and offer an alternative solution. 50. To ensure fairness to reporters, it is important to set up a system for stories to __________. 51. People who learn to anticipate "What if...?" situations will be able to reach understanding and avoid __________. Section B Directions:There are 2 passages in this section. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2 with a single line through the centre. Passage One Questions 52 to 56 are based on the following passage. At the heart of the debate over illegal immigration lies one key question: are immigrants good or bad for the economy? The American public overwhelmingly thinks they're bad. Yet the consensus among most economists is
