确到看英文报纸杂志的主要目的是为了提高阅读能力。这从表1、表8可以看出来。 2、学生的阅读面较广，往往由同学推荐去看英文报纸杂志，积极性是很高的，求知欲是很强的。这一点应当值得肯定。这是从表 3、表 4、表5可以见到的。 3、学生阅读英文报纸杂志的能力程度参差不齐，可塑性大。由表2、表3、表 4、表8、表9皆可看出。 4、学生阅读的英文报纸杂志较杂，且较随意，英语老师缺乏应有的指导。这方面问题比较严重，应当引起我们的高度重视和关注。这是从表3、表4、表 5、表 6、表7综合起来发现的。 5、学生阅读英文报纸杂志起步较晚，且未养成日常习惯。由表2、表9可见。 以上五条，前三条是正面的，它告诉我们，莞中的学生是好样的，素质是高的，学习自觉，目的明确，求知欲强，团结协作，可塑性大，无可厚非；后两条则是负面的，它警示我们：作为英语老师、英语科组长、作为学校领导，对学生的课外阅读缺乏必要的指导，未尽到应有的责任。调查中发现，很多学生认识到阅读英文报纸杂志比较重要、很重要，很想学好，但他们本人不知道该读什么及如何去读，是同学、朋友给了他们帮助，而不是我们英语老师!我不禁为此而汗颜，不知其他英语老师和校领导作何感想？古语有云：“教不严，师之惰。”教改已迫在眉睫，再也不能放任自流了！放任自流那是渎职行为，那是对学生的犯罪！如何整改？ 鉴于上述情况，我提出：从初中一年级开始培养学生阅读英文报纸杂志的日常的良好的习惯。 为什么要“从初中一年级开始”呢？ 第一、学生个人有此需求。上面表1表明：有22人是从初一开始阅读英文报纸杂志的，还有1人是从幼儿园时开始的，1人是从小学开始的。加起来，至少有24人是从初一前就开始的。再从近几年高考我校考上清华、北大的尖子生，都是从初一开始就阅读英文报纸杂志的，去年的总分状元汤宇翀如是，今年的曾力舜、王升、包涵、易青、黄进伟等五人更是如此。调查中个别交谈时发现，很多学生说，要是早些开始阅读英文报纸杂志就好了，起码高三备考不用那么辛苦。高三各种科目的作业又多，还要提高英语阅读能力，顾此失彼现象很普遍，顾了这科顾不了那科，按下葫芦浮起瓢。如果英语阅读关早过了，那就游刃有余，可以花更多的时间应付综合科和专业科了。 第二、学生家长有此需求。东莞是著名的侨乡，东莞土著有85%以上有海外关系，改革开放之后，对外交流更加频繁了，很多家长将子女送去国外读高中，有的学生家长不惜花费巨资送子女去美国、去英国、去加拿大、澳洲、新西兰等国留学读高中，但有人欢喜有人愁，有的学生英语水平太差，中途不得不回国重读高中，今届我班的朱某某就是其中的一个。他妈妈说，假如初中就会英语那就好了。 第三、社会环境条件成熟。东莞地处珠三角经济发达地区，得改革开放之春风，敢为天下先，东莞就是富裕的代名词。随着经济的不断发展，文化新城也在崛起，东莞市委市政府提出了“一城三创五争先”的工作思路，重视“学在东莞”，投入了大量资金打造松山湖文化校园。佟星书记曾在一次大会上提出，要创建一大批英语特色学校，要从娃娃抓起，打好英语攻坚战。据了解，截止2003年年底，东莞市吸引了全球三十多个国家和地区的外商前来投资，拥有外资企业一万四千五百多家。世界五百强企业有四十三家在东莞
