Macintosh computer. It made all the difference in Jobs’life. If he had never dropped out, he would have never dropped in on the calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have had the wonderful typography that they do. Therefore, one has to trust in something—his/her gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever, and this approach will give one the confidence to follow whatever he/she trusts in.

The letter turned out to be the minutest directions of how my great-aunt was to escape to England to get married with Richard! My

great-aunt never opened it because she had not learned to read. More importantly, she had no one to trust then.

Summary

The modern doctor’s business is extremely simple. When the patient enters the consulting room and tells the doctor the symptoms of his sufferings, the doctor examines the patient by striking him blows in several parts of his body. In reality, the doctor hasn’t the least idea what is wrong with the patient, and

all he can do is keep the patient submissive and force him to confess his illness. When asked about the patient’s diet, the doctor may respond differently, depending on how he is feeling and whether it is long since he had a meal himself.

It is the work of the analytical laboratory that inspires the patient with proper confidence in the modern treatment. Whatever illness the patient may suffer, the doctor will insist on snipping off all the likely parts and send them to the analytical laboratory for tests. Despite the absurdity and our knowledge of the modern medicine, however, we rush for a doctor as soon as we have a pain within us.

Unit 5

Finally,without further ado, Lindsey was handcuffed and charged with the robberies having taken place in Portland. She was escorted to the jail nearby for booking. Lindsey went to court and the jury found her guilty of all the robberies, and she was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The police were happy to have solved this case and to have the right twin in prison, but the sister that should have been in prison was neither Lindsey nor Sara. Their mom had given birth to triplets and the woman the

police had tried to put behind bars was in fact another sister, Cindy.

Summary

Lindsey learned from TV news that she or her twin sister Sara was accused of some robberies in Portland, Oregon. Lindsey

knew that she was not the perpetrator, and that Sara had been killed the year before in a car accident. In order to remove herself from the case, she drove over to Sara’s home and found three numbers with Oregon area codes. One of them was Sara’s ex-boyfriend named Johnny, who told Lindsey that Sara had gone with him on three of the four crimes.

After coming back, she went to the police department to hand in her proof. But there, right before her eyes, stood her mother and her sister “Sara”! Lindsey had the instinct that she had been betrayed by her family, but she was unable to defend her innocence. Lindsey was put in prison, not knowing that she had another sister Cindy, one of the triplets, who should be put behind bars.

The narrator went to the British Museum to read up on the treatment for hay fever he fancied he had. He picked up a book and read about it. Then, in an unthinking moment, he began to study some other diseases. He was surprised to find that he suffered from those diseases as well. After that he decided to read about all the diseases in the book. In the end, he came to the conclusion that he had every disease described in pharmacology except housemaid’s knee. Wondering how long he had to live, he tried to examine himself, but he could not feel his heart. Then he thought he was a medical encyclopedia for practice, so he went to see the doctor, one of his close friends. After hearing the narrator’s complaints, the doctor wrote out a prescription and handed it to him. The prescription was a diet suggestion: a healthy diet, plenty of exercise and sleep, and no unnecessary worries. Following the instructions of the doctor, he lived a good life.
