A British company has made a new product to help us save money. The product is a wristband

that gives us an electric shock if we spend too much money. The wristband is called Pavlok. It is

linked to our bank account. It knows how much money we have in the bank. If we go shopping and there is not enough money in our bank account, the wristband makes an electric shock on

our wrists. This warns us not to overspend. The company is called Intelligent Environments. It wants to work with banks to help customers with their money. So far, no banks in Britain have

said they would ask their customers to wear Pavlok. They could start doing this in the future. The Pavlok wristband is part of the Internet of Things. This is the idea that everything in our life

will be connected to the Internet. The CEO of Intelligent Environments, David Webber, said people liked the idea of the Pavlok. Shoppers would rather get a small electric shock in the store from the wristband than get a big shock later when they see their bank account. Mr. Webber said the Pavlok would be great for people who cannot stop spending because they have no power or their power is weak. He added that many young people have the "ostrich effect". This is when people put their heads in the sand and buy things rather than look at how much money they have in their bank accounts.

Students in Kenya are returning for their third term. They begin their school year in January

and it is broken up into three terms. In Kenya, in the past, students were not required to attend school and the education was not free, either.

I taught math, English and physics at Chamasiri Secondary School while I was a teacher in Kenya. This school had four classrooms ﹣ one for each grade, Form 1, Form 2, Form 3 and Form 4. They are the equivalent (对等) to our 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. Teachers traveled from classroom to classroom instead of the students going from room to room. The Form I class had 60 students, Form 2 had 45, Form 3 had 30, and Form 4 about 12 students. The class sizes became smaller as the grades continued on. Why did this happn? Many families were very poor and could not afford the school fees (学费) .

Most countryside schools in Kenya did not have a lot of money. As a result, there were very

few textbooks for the students to use. I had seven math texts for my Form 2 class and 14 for the Form I class. Anything the students needed to know was put up on the blackboard and the

students copied it down into their notebooks. The notebooks became the students' textbooks.

Kenyan students study ten different subject areas. Some of the students spend over an hour

running home. They do chores at home and hopefully manage to find some time to study before

it gets dark. Most families do not have electricity and may not even have candies for their children to study by.

Luckily, Kenyan education has been becoming better and better in the past few years. I'm

sure it will have a good future.

(1) Which grade does Form 3 refer to (指的是)in the writer's country A. Grade 9. B. Grade 10. C. Grade 11.(2) Why did the notebooks become the students' textbooks??

D. Grade 12.

(3) Why do some students run home from school ?

(4) According to the passage, which of the following is NOT TRUE ?

A. In Kenya, a school year has three terms.

B. The Form I class had the most students.

C. Each family has electricity in Kenya.

D. Kenyan education has been improving.

【答案】( 1) C

(2) B

It's hard to turn down a tasty banana. They taste good and you don't have to wash them

before eating them. However, British scientists say that the fruit may disappear by 2050.

One reason for this is climate (气候) change. Scientists at the University of Exeter collected data(数据) from 27 countries and regions that produce 86 percent of the world's bananas. They found that climate change has improved growing conditions in 21 of these countries. In the past 60 years, the average yield (平均产量) has reached 1.37 tons of bananas per hectare (公顷) .

However, if temperatures keep rising, this advantage will disappear. Ten of the countries, including India, the world's biggest producer of bananas, will produce fewer bananas. By 2050,

the fruit may die out.

Shouldn't bananas grow more easily if it's hotter outside? In fact, the perfect temperature range for growing bananas is between 24 and 32 C. If temperatures get too high, they will stop growing.

Diseases are another danger to bananas. Unlike other crops, the bananas we grow come from shoot cuttings (茎段) rather than seeds. This means that all banana plants have the same genotype (基因型) . In other words, if a disease is able to kill one plant, it could kill them all.

One serious disease is called Panama. Caused by fungus(真菌) in the soil, it spreads easily. It has spread across South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Australia. If one banana plantation (种植园) suffers from the disease, it will take 30 years until it is able to grow bananas again. Scientists have yet to find a cure for this disease.

(1) What does the underlined word " this" in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A. People's love for bananas.

B. The taste of bananas.

C. The convenience of eating bananas.

D. The future disappearance of bananas.

(2) What might happen if temperatures keep going higher?

(3) What does Paragraph 5 tell us?

A. What diseases bananas may suffer from.

B. How bananas are grown.

C. How diseases can easily kill bananas.

D. Which diseases can kill bananas.

(4) The passage is written to ________.

A. offer tips for growing bananas

Andrew Hollennan, a 12-year-old boy, loved playing in the open land near his home. The

land was wet and forested, and made a home for birds, other animals and many different plants.

It made the perfect place for him to study and get to know the nature. He had seen some red-

tail hawks, red foxes, wood turtles and other animals. He also found special native flowers.

Suddenly it was announced that the "empty" land would be improved by a lot of houses on it. The plants would be removed, the animals would run away and most would probably die. Then

the wet soil would be covered with extra grounds. When he heard about the news, he was

not happy. He was very worried that the land and water would be polluted.

Andrew wrote down clearly all the researches he had down about the area, and how the houses would affect the local environment. He sent letters to members of local government and television reporters. He also called on his neighbors to oppose the building of the houses. Although he was only 12 years old, he had the courage and wisdom of a person much older. Andrew's teachers described him as gentle, shy and active. His classmates also admired how much he knew about local animals and plants, and the environment. Each day after school, Andrew went door-to-door, to ask the people to sign, who did not want the houses to be built. In only one month, he got the signatures of 250 people.

In the end, the land remained a safe place for birds, animals and plants that belonged there.

Adam from Taiwan wrote that he was taking a tour with his son in Hawaii. His son had gone to the restroom. The tour guide asked where the boy was, and Adam answered, "He is in the toilet." In other countries, that answer might have made perfect sense. But in the United States, most people would say "He's in the restroom." or "He's in the bathroom." To Americans, a "toilet" is

what you find in a restroom instead of the name for the room itself. So you can see why saying

"in the toilet" might have sounded funny.

Michele from France had a funny and maybe somewhat painful story to tell. She was visiting London and the weather was very cold and rainy. She went into an Indian restaurant and ordered

a meal. The waiter asked if she wanted it "hot". She was surprised by the question and said, "Yes, very, very hot." Michele said after she took her first bite she realized her misunderstanding. The food was very, very spicy (辣的) .So be careful the next time someone asks if you want your food "hot". It can also refer to (指) the flavor (味道) .

Once upon a time in a land far away, there was a wonderful old man who loved all kinds

of small animals, such as spiders, insects and butterflies and so on.

One day while walking through the woods, the nice old man found a cocoon (茧)of a butterfly. He took it home.

A few days later, a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours

as it struggled to make its body out of that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared it could go no farther.

Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then got out of the cocoon easily.

But it had a swollen (肿胀的)body and small shriveled (枯萎的)wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge to be able to support the body, which would contract (收缩)in time. Neither

happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body

and shriveled wings.

What the warm-hearted man in his kindness did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were Nature's way of forcing fluid (体液) from the body of the butterfly into its wings, so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were allowed to go through

our life without any difficulties, it would be bad for us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. And we could never fly.

(1) How did the butterfly get out of the cocoon according to the passage?

A. It got out of the cocoon by itself.

B. The cocoon was broken.

C. The old man helped it get out.

D. Another butterfly helped it.

(2) What does the underlined word "struggle" mean?

A. Try very hard to.

B. Have to.

C. Have great difficulties to.

D. Fight against.(3) When did the old man decide to help the butterfly?

A. When the old man saw it.

B. When the small opening appeared.

C. As soon as the old man got home.

D. After the butterfly struggled for several hours.

(4) Where should the missing sentence "It never was able to fly" be put?

A. Between Paragraph 3 and 4.

B. Between Paragraph 4 and 5.

C. Between Paragraph 5 and 6.

D. Between Paragraph 6 and 7.

(5) What can we learn from the story?

A. We shouldn't help others.

B. We can't get over difficulties.

C. Difficulties are helpful in our life sometimes.

D. Helping others is a good thing.

中考英语阅读理解培优训练(附解析) 一、初三英语阅读理解(含答案详细解析) 1.阅读理解 Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it's hard for you to communicate with your parents, don't worry about it. Here are some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (代沟). Don't argue (争辩) with your parents. Don't get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won't consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can't express yourself well if you are angry. Go someplace to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don't think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter. Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael's mother didn't agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days. Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect (尊敬) to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong. Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life. A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try! 中考英语英语阅读理解精选附答案

中考英语英语阅读理解精选附答案 一、英语阅读理解专项练习试卷 1.阅读理解 Earlier this year, China achieved a new milestone (里程碑) in space research. On January 3, 2019, Chang'e-4 became the first lunar probe (月球探测器) in history to successfully land on the far side of the moon. The Earth's gravity (重力) slows the moon's rotation (自转), matching it to the speed of its orbit (公转). Therefore, the far side of the moon is almost "dark" and has never been seen. It's this sense of the unknown that makes the far side of the moon such an interesting place for scientific and space research. Being blown by solar (太阳的) winds, the far side may have the special minerals (矿物质). For this reason, Chang'e-4 will study the effect of solar winds on the lunar surface and any mineral found by the spacecraft. Chang'e-4 is also carrying flower seeds, potatoes and silkworm eggs to see whether life is possible on the moon. If it is, then the moon will become a possible choice for space travel in the future. However, research of the "dark" side isn't easy. As the far side is blocked(阻断) off from us, radio noise coming off Earth is also blocked. This is why China's relay satellite (中继卫星) Queqiao was sent up in May, 2018. Thanks to Queqiao, the communication problem between Earth and Chang'e-4 has been well solved. Power supply (电源供应) is also a challenge to the task. Chang'e-4 gets energy from the sun through its solar panels. As we know, a lunar day has the length (长度) of 28 Earth days. After Chang'e-4 was sent up on December 8, 2018, it took the probe over 20 days to orbit the moon to be in a position to be able to land in moon daylight and use its solar panels. Luckily, everything goes well, Chang'e-4 has worked on the "dark" side for over 5 months. It has sent back many photos of the far side of the moon and has been used to carry out some scientific experiments. The New York Times used the word "groundbreaking" to praise the task and wrote that "it will offer help to the history and development of the moon". (1)When was Chang'e-4 sent up? A. In May, 2018. B. On December 8, 2018. C. On January 3, 2019.

(英语)中考英语阅读理解专项训练及答案 一、英语阅读(日常生活类) 1.阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳答案。 If you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The "G" stands for the "generation" (代)of your mobile network. But the symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive. On March 30, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X Smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks. About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data(数据) faster than ever before. But 5G won't just bring faster mobile internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today's self-driving test cars have one problem-lag(延迟). When the car "sees" an obstacle(障碍物), it sends this information to a data center and receives instructions, However, it will be some time before it sends and receives this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer. 5G could also be used to power the internet of things (IoT), that is, a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside. (1)Which city was 5G tested for the first time? A. Beijing. B. Shanghai. C. Shenzhen. (2)What can we infer(推测) according to the passage?. A. 5G is widely used in China now. B. 5G networks will make our lives more convenient. C.
