If you're invited to your British or American friend's home for a meal at home, you should learn some table manners about their countries.

Their dinner parties usually start between 7 and 8 p. m. and end at about 11 p.m. Ask your hosts what time you should arrive. It's polite to bring flowers, chocolates or a bottle of wine as a gift.

Usually the evening starts with drinks and snacks(小吃). If you want to be more polite, say how much you like the room, or the pictures on the wall. But remember-it's not polite to ask how much things cost.

In many families, the husband sits at one side of the table and the wife sits at the other end. They eat with their guests. You'll probably start the meal with soup or something small, then you'll have meat or fish with vegetables, and then dessert(甜点心), followed by coffee. It's polite to finish everything on your plate and to take more if you want it.

Most dictionaries will tell you a number of things about a word. There are three important things. These three things are spelling, pronunciation and meanings.

First, a dictionary will tell you the spelling of a word. If you are not sure about the spelling of a word, you can try to find the correct spelling in a dictionary. Words are listed in alphabetical order---a, b, c and so on. For example, on a dictionary page the word "poor"—p, o, o, r - comes before "poverty"—p, o, v, e, r, t, y--and the word "poverty" comes before" power'--p, o, w, e, r. The words are always given in an alphabetical order.

The second thing, a dictionary will tell you pronunciation. Most give phonetic, or sound, alphabet.

The phonetic spelling will tell you how a word is pronounced. There are a few different phonetic alphabets. Many dictionaries use the International Phonetic Alphabet to show pronunciation.

The third thing, a dictionary will tell you the meaning of words. You can look up a word and find out what it means. Many words have more than one meaning, and a better dictionary will tell you all of the word's meaning. For example, in English the common word "get" has over 20 different meanings.

A. How to write a word beautifully.

B. How to use a word.

C. How to lookup a word.

D. How to pronounce a word

(2)Of the three words: "remove", "remote" and" remount", ____ in a dictionary.

A. "remote" comes first and "remove" comes last

B. "remove" comes first and" remote" comes last

C. "remote" comes first and "remount" comes last

D. "remove" comes first and "remount" comes last

(3)A better dictionary can tell you .

A. More of the word's pronunciation

D. More of the grammar

(2)A

The main difference between China and Western countries on the dinner table is chopsticks instead of a knife and fork, but that's just a small difference. Besides, in decent(像样的)restaurants, you can always ask for a knife and fork, if you find the chopsticks not helpful enough. The real difference is that in the West, you have your own plate of food, while in China the dishes are placed on the table and everyone shares. If you are being treated to a formal(正式的)dinner and particularly if the host thinks you're in the country for the first time, he will do his best to give you a taste of many different types of dishes. The meal usually begins with a set of at least four cold dishes, followed by the main courses of hot meat and vegetable dishes. Soup will then be served (unless it is a Guangdong-style restaurant), followed by rice, noodles or dumplings. Perhaps one of the things that surprise a Western visitor most is that some of the Chinese hosts like to put food onto their guests' plates. In formal dinners, there are always "public" chopsticks and spoons for this purpose, but some hosts may use their own chopsticks. This is a sign of real friendship and politeness. It is always polite to eat the food. If you do not eat it, just leave the food on the plate. People in China tend to over-order food, for they will find it embarrassing(令人尴尬的) if all the food is consumed(吃光). When you have had enough, just say so, or you will always overeat!

(1)What's the real difference between Chinese and Western table manners?

A. The tools people use to eat.

B. Whether people share food on the same plate.

C. The things people like to eat.

D. How to begin the dinner politely.

(2)If a foreigner first comes to have dinner in a Chinese family, he may be _____.

A. given little food

B. served with rice first

C. served with many dishes

D. asked to use "public" chopsticks

(3)Which of the following is the RIGHT order for most Chinese formal dinners according to the passage?

A. Rice-soup-hot meat-cold dishes.

B. Vegetable dishes-soup-dumplings-cold dishes.

C. Cold dishes-hot meat-soup-rice.

D. Cold dishes-soup-hot meat-rice.

Tariffs on Chinese garlic rose from 10% to 25% on May 9, 2019, and the reason is that U.S President Donald Trump increased tariffs on Chinese products worth of $200 billion. Mr. Harris taught sixth-grade science. On the first day of class, he gave us a talk about an animal called" birdcat", which died out during the Ice Age. He passed around a skull(头骨) as he talked. We all took notes carefully and later we had a test.

When he returned my paper the next day, there was a big red"×" through each of my answers. I failed! There must be some mistakes! I wrote down exactly(确切地)what Mr. Harris had said. Then I learned that everyone in the class had failed. Why? "Very simple, "Mr. Harris said, "I made up all that 'birdcat'. But there had never been any such animal. 对小学英语考试常见题型的讲解及做题技巧

对小学英语考试常见题型的讲解及做题技巧,失分薄弱环节的讲解 1.针对四年级学生知识或能力系统和学生的认知规律确定易错题。 2.试题包括基础知识和能力题两大类。 3.每道题包括“典题呈现”“解题分析”“参考答案”“变式突破”四个方式 4.易错题型来源于平时的教学实践,注重所选易错题例的典型性和针对性,对 学生有启发和帮助。 5.注重所选易错题型应呈现的多样性。 小学英语考试的目的是什么?考的方式与内容与课程设置理念有无相悖?如果每个人能多思考这样的问题,我想无论从教学思想上还是评价体系上更上一层楼,即使是在应试教育的大气候下也能把握些许平衡 [学生要通过大量做卷子,过分钻研题型本身,那考试就失去意义了] 听力: 辨音: 这种题型考察的目的是什么?我一直很疑惑。(有同行说这些题目以后不考了,但总要思考下吧) 如果是考察学生对单词是否读准了,那告诉你,10个有8个是没问题的,exercise这个单词有点复杂,也许有很多学生对里面的单个音吃不准,但是要整体认读对,是不难的,但问题也就在这里,有很多学生会读整个单词,但不知道具体每个字母在这个单词里读什么音,这点也许那些高中,大学老师觉得很不可思议,但是小学老师绝对深有感触,我在训练直拼的时候就发现有几个很有这样问题的学生,我就问他big种的I到底发什么音,但是在他嘴里出来的是莫名其妙[e];

I’m sorry to hear that的语感提醒,那还是会知道hear这个单词的,你要学生默写“来这里”的“这里”,也是不难的事情here. Does he…? Are you…? Is your father….?

(1) Edward rose early on the New-year morning. He looked in every room and wished a Happy New Year to his family. Then he ran into the street to repeat that to those he might meet. When he came back, his father gave him two bright, new silver dollars. His face lighted up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some pretty books that he had seen at the bookstore. He left the house with a light heart, expecting to buy the books. As he ran down the street, he saw a poor family. “I wish you a Happy New Year.” said Edward, as he was passing on. The man shook his head. “You are not from this country.” said Edward. The man again shook his head, for he could not understand or speak his language. But he pointed to his mouth and to the children shaking with cold, as if (好像) to say, “These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time.” Edward quickly understood that these poor people were in trouble. He took out his dollars and gave one to the man, and the other to his wife. They were excited and said something in their language, which doubtless meant, “We thank you so much that we will remember you all the time.” When Edward came home, his father asked what books he had bought. He hung his head a moment, but quickly looked up. “I have bought no books”, said he. “I gave my money to some poor people, who seemed to be very hungry then.” He went on, “I think I can wait for my books till next New Year.” “My dear boy,” said his father, “here are some books for you, more as a prize for your goodness of heart than as a New-year gift” “I saw you give the money cheerfully to the poor German family. 初中中考英语阅读理解技巧

中考冲刺四:阅读理解技巧(提高) I.真题演练。 (2014 武汉) I never saw my father home from work late or ill, nor did I ever see my father take a "night out with the boys". He had no hobbies but just took care of his family. For 22 years, since I left home for college, my father called me every Sunday at 9:00 am. He was always interested in my life—how my family was doing. The calls even came when he and my mother were in Australia, England or Florida. Nine years ago when I bought me first house, my father, 67 years old, spent eight hours a day for three days, painting my house. He would not allow me to pay someone to have it done. All he asked, was a glass of iced tea, and that I hold a paintbrush for him and talk to him. But I was too busy, for I had a law practice to run, and I could not take the time to hold the paintbrush, or talk to my father. Five years ago, my 71-year-old father spent five hours putting together a swing set(秋千)for my daughter. Again, all he asked was that I get him a glass of iced tea, and talk to him, but again, I had laundry to do, and the house to clean. The morning on Sunday, January 16, 1996, my father telephoned me as usual, this time he had seemed to have forgotten some things we had discussed the week before. I had to get to church, and I cut the conversation short. The call came at 4:40 am. That day my father was sent to hospital in Florida. I got on a plane immediately, and I vowed(发誓)that when I arrived, I would make I arrived in Florida at 1:00 am, but my father had passed away at 9:12 pm. This time it was he who did not have time to talk, or time to wait for me. In the years since his death I have learnt much about my father, and even more about every single day. 1. We know from the reading that the father_____. A. liked to paint houses B. had no friends around him C. was not healthy in his youth D. thought of his family as his all 2. When her father painted her first house, the daughter_____. A. could only afford a glass of iced tea B. was too busy to talk to her father C. could do nothing but hold a paintbrush D. spent eight hours a day working with her father
