Do you have anxiety?

Have you tried just about everything to get over it, but it just keeps coming back?

Perhaps you thought you had got over it, only for the symptoms to return with a vengeance?

Whatever your circumstances, science can help you to beat anxiety for good.

How science can help

The way you cope or handle things in life has a direct impact on how much anxiety you experience –tweak the way you’re coping, therefore, and you can lower your anxiety levels.

Do you feel like your life is out of control? Do you find it hard to make decisions – or get things started?

Well, one way to overcome indecision or get going on that new project is to “do it badly”.

This may sound strange, but the writer and poet GK Chesterton said that: “Anything worth doing is worth doing badly.”

And he had a point. The reason this works so well is that it speeds up your decision-making process and catapults you straight into action.

Otherwise, you could spend hours deciding how you should do something or what you should do, which can be very time-consuming and stressful.

People often want to do something “perfectly” or to wait for the “perfect time” before starting.

But this can lead to procrastination, long delays or even prevent us from doing it at all. And that causes stress – and anxiety.

Forgive yourself and ‘wait to worry’

Are you particularly critical of yourself and the blunders you make?

Well, imagine if you had a friend who constantly pointed out everything that was wrong with you and your life. You’d pro bably want to get rid of them right away.

But people with anxiety often do this to themselves so frequently that they don’t even realize it anymore.

They’re just not kind to themselves.

So perhaps it’s time to change and start forgiving ourselves for the mistakes we make.

If you feel like you’ve embarrassed yourself in a situation, don’t criticize yourself – simply realize that you have this impulse to blame yourself, then drop the negative thought and redirect your attention back to the task at hand or whatever you were doing.

Another effective strategy is to “wait to worry”.

If something went wrong and you feel compelled to worry (because you think you screwed up), don’t do this immediately. Instead, postpone your worry –set aside 10 minutes each day during which you can worry about anything.

Find purpose in life by helping others

It’s also worth considering how much of your day is spent with someone else in mind?

If it’s very little or none at all, then you’re at a high risk of poor mental health. Regardless of how much we work or the amount of money we make, we can’t be truly happy until we know that someone else needs us and depends on our productivity or love.

Knowing that someone else needs you makes it easier to endure the toughest times.

You’ll know the “why” for your existence and will be able to bear almost any

“how”.

Morning offers several benefits that can’t be found at other times of the day. Shifting your schedule might take some adjustment , but it’s worth it.

You'll have more energy.

Doing your best work means managing your mental energy, and you automatically have more mental energy in the morning when you wake up.

Even if you didn’t sleep great but enough, you probably have much more mental energy to willfully refocus and let things go that don’t matter.

You can think creatively and have more capacity to use your prefrontal cortex.

This makes a huge difference for using your time productively as you can choose what you want to work on, and stay on track and follow through.

You have fewer decisions to make.

You don’t have to do the things that drain mental energy, like making a lot of small decisions.

Small decisions use up our self-control regulator abilities.

It’s not a finite resource that runs out, but it gets harder to do as you go along.

You go from thinking fast to thinking slow. You get hungrier.

Mornings allow you the time and space to work on things that are important.

What will it take to reach the next level in your career? Crafting

a stellar resume. Write a thoughtful cover letter that lists your

acco mplishments and demonstrate a passion for your prospective company’s work. Acing that interview.

Yes, these are all critical to landing your next role. At the end of the day,

however, there is another piece of the job seeking puzzle that will not only help you get your foot in the door, but also advance your career: your relationships. The people you create meaningful connections with will provide you with references, help open doors and, not to mention, offer candid feedback that you may need to hear.

Whether it’s with a mentor, former boss or current c olleague, the time and energy invested in developing and nurturing these relationships will be well spent.

Your number one strategy for fostering valuable professional relationships should be spending face time with the people with whom you currently work and previously worked. There’s simply no substitute for real conversations, sitting across from someone at a table, a firm handshake and good

old-fashio ned eye contact. This can seem like a challenge in today’s

tech-focused world, but it’s easier than you think. Here’s how you can effectively create substantial professional connections:

1. Limit distractions.

Technology has no doubt improved our lives and made a lot of things easier, but in some ways, it’s made us lazy. We text people instead of talking. We make introductions via Twitter instead of meeting up for coffee. The next time you make plans to spend time outside of the office with a co-worker, even if it’s just an hour out of your day, put in the effort to make the most out of that time together. That means meeting face-to-face, and resisting the urge to check your phone while you’re together.

2. Practice listening.

Your communications skills are incredibly important during an interview, as well as on the job. As you’re working on your professional relationships — with anyone from your former boss to your current manager or peers — take advantage of these opportunities to practice your listening skills. Create space for them to speak and pay attention to what they say —they’ll notice that you did.

3. Create a follow up system.

Whether it’s jotting down notes in your phone, setting up reminders in your Outlook calendar or creating a spreadsheet to keep track of who you’ve reached out to, develop automated systems that remind you to follow-up. This is especially important when you’re building new relationships. That stack of business cards serves no purpose if it’s just sitting idle on your desk. Make the most of those initial touch points by following up to schedule time to talk, preferably in person (or if they’re at a distance, on the phone or Skype).

4. Make it a habit.

As you develop a system for seamlessly incorporating relationship building into your routine, also schedule regular meeting times with your manager or a colleague so that meeting in-person becomes a habit. Even if the purpose is

simply to get to know someone better, more time face-to-face will help meeting in-person become second nature to you.

5. Enjoy it and get to know them!

Your most meaningful connections will be with people that not only respect you as a professional, but like what makes you unique. Chances are, they’ll be more likely to recommend you for a new job or provide a glowing reference if they’re personally vested in you. It’s that real and memorable connection that creates a foundation to build upon. Really take the time to connect and your professional relationships will bloom.

Quora

I lost 110 pounds in my late teens and here are my thoughts:

Implement small changes consistently. Assume your results will increase with

time, and expect a slow start. Give yourself space for mental dissonance the first few weeks while you implement this new habit. Would you want to live in a high-rise that was built in three months?

Here were some of my small changes that laid the groundwork for big results:

●Cut f rom three sodas a day to two, then one, then zero. (This took me from 270 pounds to 240 over about four months.)

●Up your evening sleep to 7.5 hours, then 8, then 8.5, and more if needed. Only up the number once a week.

●Food - Eggs are amazing if you're looking for a budget save. I've eaten the same breakfast every morning for five years: 6 whites and 2 yolks with some avocado and veggies, all scrambled together. You can find TONS of stuff like this on the internet.

●I used running for cardio because it was easy to measure - how many laps I

did this week, how much to add in in the future, etc... whatever you decide to do, know the basics for scaling up so you don't run into injury.

From what I shared, it sounds like implementing habits will generate the biggest change. It will be challenging at first, trust me, but each week gets easier with time.

Drinking will shorten your life, according to a study that suggests every glass of wine or pint of beer over the daily recommended limit will cut half an hour from the expected lifespan of a 40-year-old.

Those who think a glass of red wine every evening will help keep the heart healthy will be dismayed.

The paper, published in the Lancet medical journal, says five standard 175ml glasses of wine or five pints a week is the upper safe limit -- about 100g of alcohol, or 12.5 units in total. More than that raises the risk of stroke, fatal aneurysm (a ruptured artery in the

chest), heart failure and death.

There is still a small benefit to drinking, which has been much flagged in the past. It does reduce the chance of a non-fatal heart attack.

But, said Dr Angela Wood, from the University of Cambridge, lead author of the study, "this must be balanced against the higher risk associated with other serious -- and potentially fatal -- cardiovascular diseases."

The study included data from nearly 600,000 current drinkers included in 83 studies carried out in 19 countries.

About half the participants reported drinking more than 100g per week, and 8.4% drank more than 350g per week. Early deaths rose when more than 100g per week, which is five to six glasses of wine or pints of beer, was consumed.

A 40-year-old who drank up to twice that amount (100 to 200g) cut their life expectancy by six months. Between 200g and 350g a week, they lost one to two years of life, and those who drank more than 350g a week shortened their lives by four to five years.

Dr Tony Rao, visiting lecturer in old age psychiatry at King's College London, said the study "highlights the need to reduce alcohol related harm in baby boomers, an age group currently at highest risk of rising alcohol misuse".

It did not take into account the possibility of mental disorders such as dementia, which could accompany the other health problems drinkers incur.

Red wine is worst alcohol for your skin, according to doctors

Indulging in a few glasses of wine or a couple of cocktails may be a necessary part of life but unfortunately, there are no real benefits to the habit.

As it happens, those multiple glasses, or a bottle, of red wine can actually be quite harmful to your body - and wreak havoc on your skin.

While there have been numerous studies done in an effort to uncover the health benefits of guzzling red wine, realistically, drinking more than a moderate amount can increase the risk of dementia and cause inflammation - which can increase the risk of cancer, depression, and heart disease, according to Dr Mark Menolascino, a doctor of internal medicine.

If that weren’t enough to turn you off the habit completely, red wine also happens to be the worst drink for your skin of all the alcohol choices, according to naturopathic doctor, Dr Isabel Sharkar.

Speaking to Popsugar, Dr Sharkar revealed the unfiltered fermented grape juice can negatively impact your skin, especially if you have a condition such as rosacea.

Additionally, red wine is likely to cause “flushing, redness, and blotchy skin.”

Alcohol is a vasodilator, meaning it opens the blood vessels - which leads to a flushed appearance and a puffy complexion.

And sugar in red wine is partly to blame, as Dr Menolascino notes that the sugar in wine overloads the liver and, as a result, “sends it off to the body as raw sugar in the blood, or converts it directly into hard-to-burn fat.”

Sugar is also the culprit in other alcoholic drinks, as it is the leading cause of inflammation from alcohol consumption.

Because of this, cocktails - typically mixed drinks, often made with sweet additives like syrups or juice - are almost as bad for your skin.

Although pi?a coladas may taste good in the moment, the effects of the sugar can increase cell damage and acne.

Sugar hangovers also exist - meaning a night of sugary cocktails can lead to dull skin and bloodshot eyes, according to Dr Sharkar.

Beer, whisky, and rum are also not your friends when it comes to skincare.

If you want to wake up bright-eyed and clear-skinned, your best bet is to avoid alcohol altogether, as all of it can contribute to temporary skin damage.

A more realistic solution is sticking only to clear distilled spirits on a night out. As clear alcohol contains the “fewest additives”and “moves through your body the quickest,”according to Dr Sharkar, it will cause the least amount of damage the following day.

Passage 1 There are some very good things about open education. This way of teaching allows the students to grow as people develop their own interests in many subjects. Open education allows students to be responsible for their own education, as they are responsible for what they do in life. Some students do badly in a traditional classroom. The open classroom may allow them to enjoy learning. Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules. For students who worry about these things a lot, it is a good idea to be in an open classroom. But many students will not do well in an open classroom. For some students, there are too few rules. These students will do little in school. They will not make good use of open education. Because open education is so different from traditional education, these students may have a problem getting used to making so many choices. For many students it is important to have some rules in the classroom. They worry about the rules even when there are no rules. Even a few rules will help this kind of student. The last point about open education is that some traditional teachers do not like it. Many teachers do not believe in open education. Teachers who want to have an open classroom may have many problems at their schools. You now know what open education is. Some of its good points and bad points have been explained. You may have your own opinion about open education. The writer thinks that open education is a good idea, but only in theory. In actual fact, it may not work very well in a real class or school. The writer believes that most students, but of course not all students, want some structure in their classes. They want to have rules. In some cases, they must be made to study some subjects. Many students are pleased to find subjects they have to study interesting. They would not study those subjects if they did not have to. 1.Open education allows the students to ____.

Analytical Chemistry (FECS) ●In the Br?sted-Lowry theory, an acid is a proton donor and a base is a proton acceptor. Each acid is related to its conjugate base and vice versa: Acid = base + proton Therefore, the conjugate base of a strong acid must be a weak base and the conjugate base of a weak acid must be a strong base. Together they form a couple, and an acid without its conjugate base is a meaningless concept. In order to release a proton, the acid must find a base to accept it. In an aqueous solution, the proton, H+, having an extremely small ionic radius, cannot exist as such. It is hydrated, forming the hydronium ion H3O+ and higher hydrates. Thus, an acid-base equilibrium is not a simple dissociation equilibrium, but the result of a proton transfer reaction in which there are at least two reagents and two products. Such a process is also called protolysis. The overall reaction is expressed by: HX + H2O = H3O+ + X-. The overall equilibrium constant is K = [H3O+][X-]/[HX][H2O]. The acid dissociation constant Ka is given by: Ka = K[H2O] = [H3O+][X-]/[HX]. Ka reflects not only the acid strength of HX, but also the base strength of water. This why different acid dissociation constants are observed for the same acid in different solvent. ●Similar proton transfer reactions exist in all solvents possessing proton donor and acceptor properties. Proton transfer reactions are extremely fast. This makes them very suitable for analytical applications and acid-base reactions have found wide use in volumetric methods and other analytical techniques. ●The pH value is a measure for the acidity or basicity of a solution, aqueous or nonaqueous. ●Acid-base indicators are chemical substances with acid-base properties, having different colors in their protonated and deprotonated forms. ● A most important application of acid-base systems is related to the property of such a system to act as a buffer. Many chemical reactions produce protons (in aqueous solutions hydroniums) or hydroxide ions. If these products remain in the system, a corresponding pH change is observed. However, if a buffer is present in the solution it reacts with the liberated hydrogen or hydroxide ions so that only a relative small change of pH occurs. Buffer consist of a mixture of a weak acid and its conjugate base. The most efficient buffer for a given pH consists of a 1:1 ratio of the protonated and deprotonated forms of a weak acid (with pKa = pH). This cannot always be achieved, but if we wish to prepare a solution of a certain pH, we select a weak acid with a pKa value close to the desired pH. Buffer solution resists changes in pH upon adding of strong acids or strong bases. Depending on the relative concentrations of the acid and base forms of the buffer, the system can resist small or large additions of strong acid or base. This buffer capacity is defined as the number of moles of strong acid of base required to change the pH of 1 L of buffer solution by one pH unit. Solutions with high or low pH values, formed as a result of dissolution of large quantities of a strong base or acid, are characterized by a large buffer capacity, although the electrolyte practically consists of only one of the conjugate forms (e.g., HCl or NaOH solutions). ● A general requirement for all volumetric methods is that the titration process is fast and that it proceeds in a definite stoichiometric ratio, the endpoint of the reaction must by easy to detect and the reaction should be specific and not influenced by other constituents of the solution, i.e., there should be no interference. Question: 1. A H3PO4 solution is brought to pH = 7.00 by the addition of NaOH. Calculate the concentration of the various forms of orthophosphate if the total phosphate concentration in buffer is 0.200 mol /L. pKa1 = 2.16, pKa2 = 7.21, pKa3 = 12.32. 2. A buffer solution is prepared from acid, HA, Ka = 5 10-5, and its salt. The concentration of HA in the buffer is 0.25 mol / L. To 100 mL of the buffer added 5.0 mmol of NaOH, and the pH of the resulting solution is 5.60. What was the pH of the original buffer? 3.It is desired to change the pH of 100 mL of 0.100 mol / L HCl from 1.00 to 4.40 by the addition of sodium acetate, CH3COONa3H2O. How much solid sodium acetate salt must be added in grams? Assume no volume change for the solution as the result of the addition. 4.What is the buffer capacity of a solution which is 0.100 mol / L of NH3 and 0.200 of NH4Cl? 5.Calculate the pH of each of the following solution: (a) Water in equilibrium with CO2 of the air; pKa1 = 6.38, pKa2 = 10.25. (b) Water as in part (a) brought to pH = 7.00 with NaOH and allowed to regain equilibrium with CO2. 6. Derive the following expression for the pH at the first stoichiometric point in the titration of a mixture of two weak acid: HA, the stronger, Ka1, concentration C1; HB, the weaker, Ka2, concentration C2: pH = 1/2 (pKa1 + pKa2) – 1/2 lg (C1/C2)

Bob Crossley, a human-resources expert notices this in the job applications that come cross his desk every day. “It’s amazing how many candidates eliminate themselves,”he says. “Resumes arrive with stains. Some candidates don’t bother to spell the company’s name correctly. Once I see a mistake, I eliminate the candidate, ”Crossley concludes. If they cannot take of these details. “Why should we trust them with a job?” Can we pay too much attention to detail? Perfectionists struggle over little things at the cost of something larger they work toward. “To keep from losing the forest for the trees,”says Charles Garfield, associate professor at the University of California, San Francisco, “we must constantly ask ourselves how the details we’re working on fit into the larger picture they don’t, we should drop them and move to something else.” Garfield compares this process to his work as a computer scientist at NASA. “The Apollo II moon launch was slightly off-course 90 percent of the time,”says Garfield. “But a successful landing was still likely because we knew the exact coordinates of our goal. This allowed us to landing was still likely because we knew the exact coordinates of our goal. This allowed us to make adjustments as necessary.”Knowing where we want to go helps us judge the importance of every task we undertake. Too often we believe what accounts for other’s success is some special secret or a lucky break. But rarely is success so mysterious. Again and again, we see that by doing little things within our grasp well, large rewards follow. 66. According to the passage, some job applicants were rejected________ A) because of their carelessness as shown in their failure to present a clean copy of a resume B) because of their inadequate education as shown in their poor spelling in writing a resume C) because they failed to give a detailed description of their background in their applications D) because they eliminated their names from the applicants list themselves 67.
