Fast-food chains,American-style,are currently on the increase all over the world.Most of these places work on a similar principle.There is a long counter ,above which is displayed a list(often with pictures)of the items available,and behind which several people (often students working for the minimum wage)are serving.Individual queues form in front of each assistant .You receive what you order more or less immediately and take it on a tray to a table,picking up thing like straws(吸管),peper,salt,ketchup(蕃茄酱),pickles (泡菜)and napkins(usually paper napkins)on the way.If yo can’t see any knives and forks ,this means you are supposed to eat with your hands.If you can’t see any straws,that’s because they are hiding in the straw dispenser(分配器)that you have to fiddle(拨弄)with the bottom of it to get a straw(one at a time)to emerge.When you’ve finished,you yourself throw away everything except the tray.

Many fast-food places have drive-in facilities.You place your order from your car via(通过) a microphone and then drive round to a special window to pay and pick it up .You may even encounter places where a waitress bring your meal out,and you sit and eat it in the car from a tray hooked over the door through the open window.

You may be asked if your order is “for here”or“to go ”(i.e.to take away).In some states

there is no sales tax on food consumed.

Types of Fast Food Restaurants 快餐店的种类

Shops selling large number of different flavors of ice-cream are very common in America.If you are not sure what flavor you want ,generaly you can sample a small spoonful of a particular flavor to see if you like it.You can either have your ice-cream in a “plain cone”(普通型锥形物)or in a “sugar cone”(甜脆型锥形物).

Fast-food restaurants do not serve alcohol.The soft drinks most often sold are Coca-Cola and Pepsi——Cola,plus fizzy drinks (which are like leminade)and root beer(which is like cough medicine).Fizzy drinks are known as “carbonated beverages”(碳酸饮料)or ,more colloquially,“soda”,“pop”,“soda pop”,and “soft drinks”.

American eating is funny. They eat almost everything with a fork, and it appears that holding a knife in one‘s right hand longer than a few seconds is

considered to be against good table manners.

The system is that if it is absolutely necessary to use a knife, people take the fork in their left hand, and cut off a piece of meat or whatever it is in the

normal manner. Then they put the knife down, transfer the fork to their right

hand, and only then do they transport the food to their mouth. This is clearly

ludicrous(滑稽可笑), but it is considered good manners.

There are several results of this system. First, if it is not absolutely necessary to use a knife, Americans don‘t use one, because obviously this

greatly complicates(使复杂化) things, and you will therefore see them trying to cut things like potatoes, fish and even bacon(熏猪肉) with a fork. Second, towards the end of a course, since only one implement(器具) is being used, food has to bo chased around the plate with the fork — and for the last mouthful the thumb has to be used to keep the food in place, although one is not supposed to do this.

Third, tables are generally laid with one knife and two forks, the outside fork being for the salad. There is no need for foreign visitors to follow the American system and try to eat the salad with only a fork, but if you do use your knife, remerber to save it for the meat course. Even desserts(甜食) (except ice cream) are eaten with a fork if at all possible, and the spoon you see by your dessert is meant to be for coffee (but if you use it for your dessert no one will say anything).

Some Breakfast Dishes 早餐食谱

Breakfast in a restaurant is a very enjoyable experience. If you order eggs in a restaurant, the waiter/waitress will ask you how you want them .

You can reply that you want them "scrambled(炒)" or "boiled". It is not sufficient, however, to ask for them "fried"; you will have to specify whether you would prefer them "sunny-side-up" (煎一面), "over"(两面煎),

"over-easy/easy-over"(两面煎,但蛋黄仍然呈流体状).

American sausage(香肠) comes in slices and is quite spicy. But you can also have link sausage.

American bacon comes in small strips, can be rather fat, and is served crispy. It is usually very tasty, and you can eat it with your fingers.

"Hash brows"(油炸土豆片) are shredded(切成碎片的) and fried potatoes. They are wonderful, especially with fried eggs and ketchup(蕃茄酱).

"Pancakes", sometimes called "hot cakes", are made with baking power. They are normally served in a pile, and you are supposed to put butter and syrup(果浆) on them.

"Jelly"(果子冻) is jam and includes grape jelly, which is very tasty.

Toast is often served already buttered.

"English muffins(松饼)" are like small crumpets(烤饼) without the holes and are served toasted. You put jam on them. A "biscuit"(软饼) is a snall, scone-like bread roll, often served hot.Orange juice and coffee are often serced with breakfast.

Well, traditional food can’t be sold at a low price as it uses fresh food material.Fast food has the superiority of price whereas traditional food seems much expensive for delicacy. The second side is nutrition. There is no doubt that traditional food offers more nutritional value and better flavor. Fast food riches in deep-fried or high-fat food are far from healthful.Objectively speaking, traditional food is balanced in nutrition. There is a last aspect which describes the time.Traditional food needs a long time for cooking carefully. Currently, Roast Whole Lamb takes several hours to make but a hamburger requires only a few minutes.Nowadays, people cut down the time for lunch on account of busy working, thus fast food provides an excellent option. Through the above comparison, we can observe the merits and demerits between the two kinds of food brightly. From my perspective, I consider both of them can coexist with each other. Now let me compare the two kinds of food. First, western fast food. Before the first hamburger walked its way into the Chinese food market, we had little idea about such terms as doughnut, pizza, potato chips, let alone Kentucky and McDonald' s. Fast food has several advantages. In the first place, fast food, as is characterized by its name, is fast. This saves people's precious time, and consequently goes well with the rhythm of life in modern society. Secondly, fast food restaurants are environmentally comfortable. The clean dishes, shiny tables, decent service and light music there all stimulate people's appetite to eat more. “洋快餐”中的食品安全问题可以说,“洋快餐”是跟随改革开放的春风进入中国的。八十年代末期,以麦当劳、肯德基为代表的“洋快餐”开始进入中国,成为新兴富裕阶层的时髦消费。1990年,中国第一家麦当劳餐厅在市解放路光华楼开业。1992年4 月,王府井麦当劳餐厅开,成为了当时世界面积最大的麦当劳餐厅。与现在的“廉价快餐”不同,麦当劳在当时代表着一种时髦的高级消费。而“洋快餐”带来的新式体验,正好满足了当时人们日益多元的消费需求,成为了现代化生活的有力证明。 在2012年,快餐巨头肯德基在中国的门店数量已突破4000家,差不多已经是麦当劳的三倍。而对于飞速的扩,肯德基并未满足,百胜餐饮集团中国事业部总裁朱宗毅表示,未来肯德基开店还将提速,超过目前这两年每年400家的速度,将以每年不少于500家扩。由此可以看出,以肯德基、麦当劳为首的“洋快餐”目前在中国仍受到国人的喜爱,并在一些快节奏城市,由于洋快餐的便捷速食,其已经从原来的新式饮食体验成为一种日常饮食方式。但“洋快餐”近年来却曝出越来越多的食品安全问题。 首先,“洋快餐”作为一种速食,其原材料的选取及制作方法与中国传统中餐大不相同。西式快餐的品种单一,不像中国食物具有多样性。再加上多以高温油炸为主,使得“洋快餐”具有三高(高热量、高脂肪、高蛋白质)和三低(低矿物质、低维生素和低膳食纤维)的特点。长期食用“洋快餐”,将产生以下危害:

1.引起肥胖。在洋快餐里面,主食以高蛋白高脂肪高热量为特点,而小吃和饮料则是以高糖、高盐和多味精为主。相反,人体所急需的纤维素、维生素、矿物质则很少。高热量的油炸、焙烤食品脂肪含量很高,大大超过了一名成人一天所需的脂肪量。而长期饮用高甜度的饮料后,可因糖分的过多摄入而造成肥胖。长此以往,过多的脂肪和糖分长期堆积,由此造成了肥胖; 2.诱发癌症。2002年4月24日瑞典国家安全管理局公布了最新的研究结果,发现炸薯条、汉堡包、薄脆饼、烤猪肉等含有大量的丙烯酰胺,由于丙烯酰胺损害中枢神经系统,可以诱发良性或恶性肿瘤。世界卫生组织规定 , 每千克食品中丙烯酰胺不得超过 1 毫克。而据测定 , 美式快餐的炸薯条中丙烯酰胺高出规定标准约 100 倍 , 一包普通炸薯片超标 500倍。 3.造成营养不良,降低免疫力。洋快餐多配的碳酸饮料,容易引起饱腹感,影响食欲,同时稀释胃液,影响对食物的消化吸收。儿童长期食用,必然会造成营养不良,影响生长发育,引发缺铁性贫血等疾病。同时,洋快餐的用料比较单一,严重缺乏新鲜蔬菜类,最容易引起维生素等营养不良。长期吃洋快餐可使体液变为酸性,体酸碱失衡而危及免疫系统,这对儿童尤其明显。 4.性早熟。频繁吃洋快餐不仅人容易发胖,而且还容易因此导致孩子性早熟,影响健康发育。意大利科学家还发现,常吃肥腻食物,可影响男性的生殖能力。 5.伤智力。许多洋快餐含食盐、糖精、味精较多,不仅使人易
