Cultural differences between north and south We all know that there are many differences between Western and China. But differences also exist in our country, the north and the south. I come from Shanxi, a northern province.

The differences between north and south reflected in all aspects of life: the language, the opera, the live and so on. Today I’m going to focus on the dietary culture. We all know that the Southern staple food is rice, while the northern staple food is flour. So the Southerners incline to eat rice, the northerners love noodles. Especially in my hometown, our noodles are very famous. When I came here, I cannot stand the noodles here. I seldom eat them. In fact it is caused by the different structure of agricultural production in the South and the North.As the saying goes, plant what and eat what , with the time passes, the dietary culture has been formed. Also the dumplings is very popular in the north, whatever happy events happen, dumplings will appear in the table. And when you go to the restaurant, the dumplings are essential. I don’t eat spicy food, but now I eat them in order to clearing damp. If you eat something spicy, it is must kept out of the cold. People often say the southerners like tasting sweet, but the northerners like salty. But in Dragon Boat Festival, people in the north eat sweet zongzi, people in the south eat salty zongzi. It is an interesting phenomenon.
