In this day and age, with the expansion of globalization, our daily life is advancing at staggering pace. Accordingly, the consumption of imported food is occupying increasingly large proportion in our daily diet, which has aroused a heated discussion among communities.

Imported food plays a pivotal role in our social life. To begin with, in terms of physical health, commodities concerning eating from developed countries tend to be safer and more nutritious. To be more precise, developed countries are more likely to establish more rigorous and rigid standards for food process, which to some extent, safeguards customers against food poisoning or other diet-related diseases. Furthermore, with the marked jump of disposable income attributed to the boom of economy, individuals are inevitably attracted by fancy imported food that totally differs from their eating customs. Apparently, not only can such demand for appreciating alien food satisfy domestic consumers’ curiosity but strengthens their perspective of western culture as well.

On the other hand, some people claim that imported food exerts a wide range of side effects that we should get rid of. As far as they are concerned, for the sake of boosting domestic agriculture section, consuming indigenous food is a patriotic representation that should be motivated by authorities. Admittedly, enlarging domestic consuming of food could bring a series of merits for the development of agriculture, say, scientific and technological advancement in farming and sustainable cultivating methods, etc. despite this, a closer observation should be made that removing foreign competition will inevitably undermine the consistent progress in domestic agriculture in the long run and also such protective acts could engender foreign countries’ wide discontents that put intense pressure on diplomatic affairs.

To sum up, based on two-sides analysis, I give my vote to the former opinion that the authorities should import food oversea in order to make the most of the globalization, meanwhile, allocate considerable resources to exploit domestic agriculture industry.

2, Some people think that robots should be further developed while others regard them as a dangerous invention. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

In this day and age, out lifestyle has been extremely transformed by technological innovations. Whether the advancement of robots should be invested has become a heated discussion.

Some people think that it is essential to allocate money to the robot research for the simple reason that it brings more convenience to our daily life. For instance, robots designed with cooking skills can prepare meals for those children whose parents are packed with heavy workload. These kinds of robots can also help housewives clean their rooms. Moreover, the advent of robots makes a contribution to education, for it is more efficient and less time-consuming to develop such kind of robots as teachers whose knowledge has been programmed in the computers. It means that such robots enable the authorities not necessarily to increase its expenditure on teacher s’ training. Furthermore, utilizing robots to replace a huge number of workers is an excellent option for manufactures to reduce their costs. This allows the owners of factories do not need to recruit new workers and pay them their salaries.

Even so, artificial intelligence also brings about a set of social problems. A high incidence of unemployment would be incurred because an increasing number of robots have come into workplace. Further, individuals would overly depend on this kind of advanced technology, which would make them lack creativity. However, it is not right to forbid the investment in the development of robots simply based on those issues mentioned.

To sum up, I personally believe that even if the problems caused by robots, such as unemployment and lacking creativity, would seem to emerge, the benefits that robots bring to us can not be in denial.

3, Motorized flight is the greatest invention in the modern world. No other invention has had a more significant impact on our lives. Do you agree or disagree?

It is undeniable that people’s lifestyles have been dramatically transformed in the light of the advancement of technological innovations, which gives rise to the majority’s concern about whether motorized flights have the greatest impact on our lives. Personally, this issue should be reconsidered seriously.

Those who claim that the greatest invention in the modern society belongs to the motorized flights are reasonable to some extent, since airplanes enable people living in different countries to travel around the world without squandering too much time and suffering an exhausting feeling for its convenience and efficiency, which also leads to the prosperity of the global economic cooperation. Even so, it is unjustifiable to regard airplanes as the greatest ones because there are still many other inventions that are substantially influencing us.

Internet, another significant innovation, also plays a pivotal role in lives for the simple reason that the advent of the Internet makes contributions to the modern education. Distance education, for example, affords more opportunities for those individuals living in countryside to acquire updated knowledge and skills, which endows them the capability to reinforce the construction of their hometowns. Furthermore, individuals’ lifestyles as well as the tempo of life also have been significantly altered, which is as result of the increasing popularity of E-commerce. Online shopping and financial transactions have become parts of our life, at the same time; more job opportunities are afforded because of the great

demand for Internet services.

To conclude, even though motorized flights benefit us, it is unfair to treat it as the greatest invention. In contrast, some other innovations, such as the Information Superhighway, exert vital influence on the development of mans.

4, It is now possible to perform everyday tasks such as banking, shopping and business transactions without meeting people face to face. What effects may ir have on the individual and society as a whole?

It is a truth commonly-acknowledged that our daily life these days has been dramatically transformed due to the advancement of cutting-edge technology, which leads to the popularity of an increasing number of people conducting online, such as banking and shopping. From my perspective, there are both advantages and disadvantages on individuals and our society.

Performing online business benefits individuals, especially those who have access to the Internet. Bu that I mean it allows net citizens to have more options and spares the time of lining up for financial services for the convenience and efficiency are brought about by the Information Superhighway. Going shopping to those commercial centres located in the downtown, for example, would squander city-dwellers a huge amount of time for the simple reason that the sever congestion exists in many megacities. However, staying at home all day without going out and meeting people would probably give rise to alienation, which would leave someone lacking the capability to communicate with others, and as a matter of fact, those communication skills are necessarily required in the current society.

The trend of doing online business has exerted profound influence on our society. The most instant merit lies in the driving forces for the employment market because there is a high demand for specialized elites, such as computer experts and websites’ designers. Even so, owing to a lack of certain laws to regulate this newly-born market, frauds and other criminal actions would leave customer apprehensive about the risks of purchasing items online.

To sum up, the Information Superhighway undoubtedly brings us more convenience, but some thorny problems are also emerging. Only when the authorities enact the relevant legislation to regulate and supervise this market do activities carried out on the Internet become safer.

5, Some people think that universities should provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace. Others think that the true function of a university should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake, regardless of whether the course is useful to an employer.

In the current society, an increasing number of college graduates have a hard time finding a decent job, and

such social situation whether universities should educate students those employable skills or not has aroused widespread public attention.

Some people think that it is essential for professors and tutors serving for higher education to teach certain skills that are suitable for their students to obtain jobs. Gaining such employable skills enables graduates to stand out among their peers even if the competition in the job market nowadays is increasingly stiff. Moreover, newly-employed workers can immediately handle their own work after recruitment. In other words, it is not necessary for employers to budget another amount of expenditure to offer special training to their workers. However, it is inappropriate to instruct specialized knowledge and techniques only in tertiary education, and at the same time, instilling high moral values and advice also should be part of higher education.

On the other hand, there are also a group of people who claim that only specialized knowledge should be taught no matter whether it is helpful for students’occupations or not, for the fact that the craze for graduate schools is far more intensive than it was. Thus, it is not indispensable for universities to allocate money to train their teachers to acquire relevant employable techniques to instruct students. Even so, graduates lacking certain job skills would have a difficult time coping with their main working tasks and it many allow them not to easily adjust themselves to the high-intensive workload in working place.

To sum up, I personally believe that the true purpose of the tertiary education should enable students not only to grasp the specialized knowledge and to become a person who can get accustomed to the fierce society as soon as possible, but also to cultivate a concept of lifelong learning.

6, 剑6 Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is the issue that the increasing number of people are illiterate has given rise to majority’s concern ,and this social situation has becoming increasingly in some industrialized countries ,such as the USA and Australia.

The increasing illiteracy can be attributed to a set of reasons. Many individual’s living in those highly developed countries that provide a quality welfare system for their people may hold a view that it is not indispensible for them to receive schooling ,and they could get fund from the government .For instance ,those being unemployed or without a job after graduation will be offered the help from the authorities .Therefore ,a good social welfare system could ensure people basic standard of living ,which makes people consider that it is unmeaningful to receive education.

The high rate of illiteracy would pose a threat to the further development of society ,since lacking elites with advanced knowledge would hinder the advancement of some emerging industries ,such as microelectronic industry and technological industry ,which would lead to a series of problems of education .Long-distance education based on these scientific research and inventions would be negatively influenced by the carce of thchnologyical innovations ,Moreover ,the great pressure exerted by unemployment in the light of lacking schooling would not be alleciated.

To sum up, the reason of illiteracy mainly lies in the welfare syetem putting people to hold the view that

schooling is not necesaryly, and as a result of it,the development of high technology and the high incidence of unemployment would be accelerated.

Some people believe that there should be fixed punishments for each type of crime. Others, however, argue that the circumstances of an individual crime, and the motivation for committing it, should always be taken into account when deciding on the punishment.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Fixing punishments for each type of crime has been a debatable issue. There are many argument supporting both views, those for and those against fixed punishments.

On the one hand, fixed punishments will have a deterring effect on society. Individuals knowing that they will be subject to a certain punishment if they are convicted with a given crime, will reconsider committing this act in the first place.

This deterring effect also lead to social stability and security, through minimizing the number of crimes committed.

If people knew they would be able to convince the court or the jury of a reason for having committed the crime they are accused of, penal decisions would be largely arbitrary. This would result into criminals getting away with their crimes and into a high level of injustice caused by the subjective approach of different courts.

On the other hand, taking the circumstances of a crime and its motivation into consideration is a prerequisite for establishing and ensure justice and equity.

There have to be fixed punishments for all crimes. However, criminal laws have to provide for a minimum and a maximum for the punishment and the laws also have to foresee certain cases of exemptions.

An example for setting minimum and maximum penalties is Competition Law where a person being held liable will be convicted to pay a fine, according to the harm caused by the violation and the profit gained by the violator through committing the crime.

As for the exemptions, in some countries the law exempts thiefs stealing food during a period of famine taking into consideration the distress and hunger.

Also, a person killing in self-defence will be exempted from punishment.

8, 剑4，Creative artists should always be given the freedom to express their

own ideas (in words, pictures, music or film)in whichever way they wish. There should be no government restrictions on what they do. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

I agree with the statement that there should be no government restriction on creative artist who express themselves in the way they do and that they must be given freedom for the same ,Expression has always been the keynote in a person’s life .It is the result of our thoughts that we are able to communicate .Restrictions on how we present our thoughts that we are able to communicate. Restrictions on how we present our thoughts is senseless.

Creative artists play a major role in our society ,be it the government ,old people ,the youth or the children .Their works enlighten our minds ,no matter it is factual or entertainment based ,It is deserving that after days work when we want to take some time off for ourselves ,we look out for some leisure .For instance, either pleasant music or a family movie which soothes the mind. Entertainment give us an overview of a new side of life which every individual respects. There is almost everything good in what is given to us through the media world which is made up of artists.

On the contrary sometimes these artists tend to be unscrupulous. They convert rumours into facts and present them before us. This might impair the reputation of some illustrious people in today’s society ,On such occasions, certain restrictions are understandable .Nevertheless we all do know what is right or wrong .Rules and regulations not always are the solution to how artists present their own ideas .Hence it is doltish to be impetuous and the government should enforce alternative ways to control the media. Respect for ones ideas is not only hypothetical but must be practiced, It is through respect that each one of us can be recognized as a unique person in the world. This can be achieved by looking at the bright side of what media i.e. the creative artists display for us ,Not a day can go by when we don’t look out for colourful dreams and a beautiful life which we can find either through music , poetry ,films, pictures; everything that can creative artists offer us .

9,Some people prefer to stay in the same job for the same company, but othe rs prefer to change jobs frequently. You should use specific reasons to comp are the advantages and disadvantages of both sides.

People rarely have an absolute consensus on the controversial issue whether a man should intend to go in f or a life-time career. These days, very few people prefer to always taking a position.

In some senses, a life-time career has its merits. First, if you stick at taking a post, all angles of the job will h ave appeared; after some time, you will definitely have a good command of it. Consequently you may beco me a veteran of the field and earn respect or prestige from others. Second, you can establish an extensive s ocial connections relating to the field, helping you tear down most of the barriers standing in the way of yo ur working endeavor. Finally, mistakes of the routine tasks would be minimized because you have learned t he lessons.

However, as the modern society develops, experiencing different jobs has its advantages. Initially, we look a t the issue of bribery. Many high-level staff are inclined to accept bribes via power in hand. However, if he k nows that someone else will soon take his place, such acts can be avoided. We then look at work motivatio

n. If one works for the same company for a long time without promotion, he may get sick and tired of doing the same daily routine. Nonetheless, a manager should have qualities of a sense of teamwork and the capa bility of coordination. Therefore, to try various positions can help you gain ground to be promoted.

In summary, staying in the same post can cultivate one to cut out for the job but involve one in a boring car eer while changing jobs frequently can be both advantageous by keeping bribery away and providing one w ith more opportunities of promotion and disadvantages by making mistakes occasionally. In my opinion, pe ople should seek a decent and good-paid job and pay little attention changing it.

10,Some information in films, books and on the Internet has bad influence o n young people and even on society. Some people think such information sho uld be controlled. Give your opinion on both sides of view use your own expe rience and examples

Nowadays,people can get almost any information from films,books or the internet,but some information can have negative influences on young people and even our society. The following essay discusses whether there should be censorship of inf ormation in society or not.

To begin with, some information is harmful for children, therefore we should protect children from some information. By t his I mean, children are easily influenced and they cannot distinguish what is right or real and what is wrong or unreal, as t hey are immature, and they probably imitate what they have seen. As a consequence, we should protect children from so me information such as excessive violence or obscene material, so that they can grow up to be valuable members of societ y.

Another point to bear in mind is that some information which could be harmful to society should be censored. For exampl e, some material that encourages racism,violence or terrorism threatens social security, and it might lead to some serious s ocial problems, such as crimes. Therefore, the government should ban this kind of information in films,books or on the Inte rnet.

However, people do have the right to choose what they what to know, and they should be allowed access to most informat ion. Further more, most adults are good people and will not be influenced in a negative way easily, thus they should have t he freedom to decide what they want to know, and the government should not censor all information, as the government i s only a group of people after all.

In conclusion, parents should strictly control what their children watch or read, and the government should censor such inf ormation in children’s books, films or websites. In addition, the government should ban some information which encourag es racism, violence and terrorism, as it is harmful to society. However, on the other hand, since it is people’s right to choos e what they want to know, the government should not censor most information.
