录音原文

(Text 1)

W: Have you seen the movie Hangover? We went to see it last night.

M: How was it?

W: Jason thought it was extremely amusing, but I was a bit disappointed.

(Text 2)

M: Susan, I heard you are going to France. How long will you be staying there?

W: A whole year. My aunt lives there. I’m going to do a one-month course at a language school and spend the rest of time traveling.

(Text 3)

M: Let’s see what drinks you’ve got for the party tonight.

W: Everything, beer, wine, soft drinks like Coke, Seven-up—you name it, I’ve got it. Have you ordered the cake?

M: Of course.

(Text 4)

M: I don’t have a library card. Do I need one?

W: You have to have one—only to take books out. You’re OK if you just sit in one of the rooms reading.

M: Well, then, I’ll just read here. Thank you.

(Text 5)

W: I wish I knew the times of the trains to London, but our phone’s out of order.

M: Don’t worry, Grandma. I will find out for you on the Internet. W: Thank you.

(Text 6)

W: Excuse me, I wonder if you could tell me how to find a place to have my shoes mended. I’m new in town.

M: Ah, there’s a good shop not far from here. Go straight ahead and walk about three blocks. I can’t remember the name of the shop, but you’ll find it. It’s near the police station. By the way, you

know about the Town Guide? It’s a thin book and has all kinds of useful information. You’ll find one in any bookstore.

W: Thanks a lot, you’ve been so helpful. Let’s see, did you say the repair shop was three blocks away from here?

M: Exactly.

W: Thanks again.

(Text 7)

M: I’ve been here many times. There are quite a lot of delicious dishes to choose from. What are you think of ordering?

W: Well, I haven’t decided yet. What are you going to order?

M: I think I’ll have the roast chicken. They really make it well here.

W: I had roast chicken yesterday when I ate out with Shelly.

M: Their beef steak is good, too. You can have it served with beans and mushrooms.

W: But I’m not that hungry. Is the fried fish or the seafood salad good?

M: Never had them before. Maybe if you get the steak, we could share.

W: That sounds like a good idea.

(Text 8)

W: Hello, Mr. White, do you think it’s possible for us to talk sometime today?

M: I’d love to, Miss Wilson, but I’ve got a pretty tight schedule today. I’ve got to finish reading the yearly financial report by ten. Then I have to drive to the airport to pick up an advertiser at eleven. After that, I’ll have a meeting with him over lunch.

W: Can I see you after lunch?

M: Well, let me see. After lunch, I have to attend a senior staff meeting, which may last about two hours. Can you come at three? We can talk for an hour before I meet my sales team at four.

W: I’m afraid an hour is too short. What about tomorrow morning? M: Nine to eleven, then. I’ll wait for you at the office.

W: OK. See you then.

(Text 9)

W: Hey, Bill, I hear they’re going to send you to Germany for the new project.

M: Boy, news travels fast around here. I only got the orders a couple of hours ago—Rachel doesn’t even know.

W: Oh no? So what are you waiting for? When do you plan to tell her?

M: Well, she’s at work at the moment—She doesn’t finish until 5. I’ll have to wait until tonight now, I suppose.

W: Well, I was posted there before—back in 2008. It’s OK. A bit like England really—at least the weather’s similar and the people aren’t much different. The only thing I didn’t like is the food, especially the sausages. What do you intend to do about the family? Are you going to take them with you?

M: Well, I’d like to, but I don’t know much about the situation at the moment—you know, about schools and all that, but I hope to move the family out there in a couple of months’ time. I don’t think I want to spend a year and a half out there on my own—I mean, without Rachel and the kids. I mean, I don’t see that much of them now as it is.

W: Yeah, well, that’s the way it is normally in our company, I suppose.

M: Yeah, well, we’ll see. Let me pay for the coffee.

W: No, no, I’ll pay.

(Text 10)

W: Hello, everyone. Welcome to our program. I’m Jenny Jackson. The weather here in Juárez has become unbearable. With no rains for over a year, the city is suffering from unusually hot weather.

Some light showers have been forecast since last month, but all of them have been effective in surrounding areas. Summer has not even started yet, but temperatures have reached 40 degrees Centigrade in the past three days, and people have been warned not to go out of their homes, not if you walk on foot, at least, between 11 in the morning and 7 in the evening. Little kids and the elderly are the ones who have suffered the most from this extreme heat wave. They must drink water all the time. To help our audience have a better understanding of this extreme weather, we have invited Professor Torres from University of Mexico to our studio this evening.

(Text 1)

M: Let’s go for a nice walk into the country this afternoon.

W: I certainly could enjoy the exercise, but I’ve agreed to go with Alice to buy some clothes.

(Text 2)

W: Hello, Mr. Smith, I’m afraid Dr. Brown won’t be able to see you today. He’s still waiting for a flight out of New York. He said he would meet you tomorrow afternoon. Is it okay?

M: Sounds good. Thank you for calling.

(Text 3)

W: David, have you saved enough for the car?

M: I have 20,000 dollars now and the car costs 25,000. My parents said they would like to help, but I don’t want to use their money.

(Text 4)

W: Dr. Block, I need to take a few days off because my father is coming over to visit, and I need to show him around the city.

M: OK, Jane, but be sure to come back to work next week.

(Text 5)

M: Amy, my head is spinning. It must be a touch of the sun.

W: You’d better lie back still for a while. Take it easy for the rest of the day, and stay in the shade. It’s too hot today.

(Text 6)

M: Mom, this is going to take forever. Animal World will be on in 20 minutes. It’s my favorite program. You know I can’t miss it.

W: I know, honey. But we have to wait in line to pay for these things we need.

M: You promised we’d be home in time.

W: Be a little patient, Jack. We’ll get out of here soon.

(Text 7)

M: Hi Samantha, do you have a minute?

W: Hi Richard, come in please.

M: I’ve been trying to get hold of you all afternoon.

W: I was at the weekly managers’ meeting. How are things?

M: Oh, splendid. I have some news.

W: Good news?

M: Wonderful news—to me, anyway. I’ve been offered a job for three years as an assistant to Professor Hayes from Birmingham University. I’ll join him in Mexico City. What do you think about that?

W: Wonderful, Richard! Just what you’ve always wanted, isn’t it? Does that mean that you’ll leave soon?

M: Next week. But before I go, I’d like to invite you out for dinner, just to thank you for all the help you gave me during my three-month research work here. Would tomorrow evening be a good time for you? We can go to the Shanghai Restaurant in Chinatown.

W: Fine with me.

(Text 8)

M: What’s that book you just picked up, Mary?

W: The one Professor Lee uses in his course.

M: Oh, I see. You’d better have it if you want to pass that course.

W: But it costs 30 dollars. I simply can’t afford it.

M: Did you check the used book section here? Maybe they have it.

W: No, they don’t. I asked.

M: Why don’t you get it from the library?

W: I’ve been trying for months and it’s always out. There are over 50 students in the course and every single one wants the book.

M: Listen, you know my roommate Henry, don’t you? He took the same course last year and I remember he owns a copy. I can borrow it from him for you.

W: Oh, that’ll be great! Thank you, Jim.

(Text 9)

W: Hello?

M: Hello, Stella. This is Peter.

W: Hi, Peter. Fancy hearing your voice! How are you?

M: Couldn’t be better. I’m planning a trip to Memphis with my family this summer.

W: Great! I’d love to host you here. When are you coming?

M: We’ll leave Boston on June 20th, stay in St Louis, Missouri for a week, and then fly to your city. We’ll probably stay for five days with you and come back, for it’s a two-week vacation.

W: Is there anything special you’d like to do here?

M: We’d love to explore Beale Street, the official home of the blues, where we’d listen to live music. We’d also love to visit Graceland, the popular museum in memory of Elvis Presley. But above all, we want to spend some time with you and your family.

W: Of course. It’s been ages since we met last time. Let’s have a dinner party in my garden.

M: Lovely! Oh, could you find for us a hotel near where you live? It doesn’t have to be big, but I can’t stand noise at bedtime.

W: Sure.

M: Thank you. See you soon.

新视野听力原文及答案

UNIT 5 VI. Further Listening and Speaking Task1: Hot Business Ideas Business ideas are all around you. Many business ideas come from a careful analysis of market and consumer needs. If you are interested in starting a business, but don’t know what product or service you might sell, here are some ways that may help you find one. First of all, you should study how to value to an existing product. The difference raw wood and finished wooden products is a good example of putting a product through an additional process that increases its value. But additional processes are not the only way value can be added. You might also add services, or combine one product with other products. For instance, a local farm which sells produce can also offer a vegetable delivery service—for a free. What business ideas can you develop along these lines? Focus on what products you might buy, and what you might do to them or with them to create a profitable business. Some people have another way of making profit. They improve an existing products or service. We all know that the person who can build a better mousetrap will make a lot of money. That person could be you! A local entrepreneur has created an improved version of the hula hoop. It’s bigger and heavier, so hula-hoopers can control it more easily and do more tricks. How did she come up with this business idea? She thought hula hooping would be a fun thing to do with her daughter, but found the commercially available product too flimsy. There are very few products or services that can’t be improved. Start generating business ideas by looking at the products and services you use and brainstorming ideas as to how they could be better. 1. What is the first way the speaker mentions that helps you produce a business idea? 2. Which of the following methods does the speaker NOT mention? 3. Why does the speaker mention the mousetrap? 4. Which of the following is true according to the passage? 5. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage? Keys: 1.C 2.B 3.B 4.A 5.D Task 2: What do you know about business? Historically, the term business referred to activities or interests. By extension, the word became, as recently as the 18th century, synonymous with “an individual commercial enterprise”. When referring to activities, the terms business and industry sometimes appear interchangeable. Thus a fisherman might say either that he is in the “fishing business”, which is a bit colloquial or that he works in the “fishing industry”, which sounds somewhat formal. The word “trade” m ay serve as an equivalent of both “business” and “industry”. People establish business in order to perform economic activities. With some exceptions, such as non-profit organizations and institutions of the government, businesses exist to product profit. In other words, the owners and operators of a business have receiving or generating a financial return for their time, effort and capital as one of their main objectives. One can classify businesses in many different ways. In recent years, service businesses have become increasingly popular. They offer intangible products and typically have different, usually smaller, capital requirements than manufacturers. Distributors need smaller funds than manufacturers. Most laws specify the forms that a business can take, and a body of commercial law has been developed for each type. Some common types include partnerships, corporations, also called limited liability companies, and sole ownerships. Task3: An office boy or a billionaire? A jobless man applied for the po sition of “office boy” at Microsoft. The human resource manger interviewed him, and gave him a test: clean the floor. “You are engaged,” he said, “give me your email address, and I’ll send you the application form to fill and tell you when you will start.”The man replied, “I don’t have a computer or an email.”

听力原文及部分答案

P24 Part II.Raising money for buying a car B: Well, good afternoon, Mr. Jackson. J: Good afternoon. I've come to see you to see whether it's possible to ... get an overdraft. I'm ... I want some money. [Yes] I'll tell you quite frankly what it is. I'm wanting to buy a new car. [Yes] I don't know whether it's possible to raise any money from the bank in this way. B: Er, I see no reason why not. J: I've got an old car ... B: What's your proposition? J: Well, I've got this old car which is an eight-year-old Morris 1000, and I don't think there's any point in having it repaired any more because it just isn't worth it. I feel that I could probably get about a hundred pounds for it and then that means that I would need about another four hundred-odd, three hundred and fifty ... [Mhm] er, on top of that, to buy a, a, not a new car exactly, but a newer one. [Mhm] Um, ... B: Do you use the car for your business, for your work? J: Er; yes I do, up to a point. That is to say, sometimes I take it to work and sometimes I don't, because I'm almost within walking distance of the College. [Mhm] Does this have some bearing on the, on the question of whether I can get an overdraft? B: No, I don't think so. I, er, it was just a matter of interest that I asked you, really. You think three hundred and fifty? J: I would say about three hundred and fifty to four hundred. With the other, with the other [Yes] hundred pounds then it would be about, er, five hundred pounds; well, one can get quite a decent car for five hundred pounds [Quite] — second hand, of course. B: Quite. And what sort of period of time could you repay us? J: Well, erm, this rather depends on you. Um, I would like to ... I, er, what is the normal procedure for such a sum of money? B: Well, for such a sum of money we could expect repayment within twenty-four months. J: Two years. B: Two years. J: I see. B: We are lenders in the short term, remember, not long term. J: Yes. Er, is there ... Do you, do I pay interest on this? B: You will pay interest on — well, the type of loan I have in mind is a Personal Loan, as I assume you've got no form of collateral to offer.
