22.(8分) A walk through the galleries of Quebec's Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) places individuals face-to-face with some 43,000 artworks ranging from Chinese ceramics (陶瓷制品) to Inuit sculpture.

While the visiting is an incredible cultural experience, a group of local physicians will soon be able to prescribe(开处方) museum visits as treatment for some illnesses.

"We know that art contributes to neural(神经的) activity," said MMFA director Nathalie Bondil. "What we see is that being in contact with art can really help your well-being."

Hélène Boyer, vice president of a Montreal-based medical association, explains that museum visits have been shown to increase levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter (神经传导物质) known as the "happy chemical" which helps to lift mood.

According to Boyer, the small increase in hormones(荷尔蒙)associated with enjoying an afternoon of art is similar to that offered by exercise, making museum prescriptions ideal for the elderly experiencing pain that prevents them from regularly joining in physical activity.

The museum visits are designed to improve traditional methods. As Bondil notes, spending time in a peaceful environment can provide a welcome distraction. "What is most important is this experience can help them escape from their own pain," she says. "When you enter the museum, you escape from the speed

of our daily life."

"I am convinced that in the 21st century, culture will be what physical activity was for health in the

20th century," said Bondil. "Some people would do well to recall that just in the 19th century, sports were believed to do harm to the body. Just as doctors now prescribe exercise, they will be able to prescribe a visit to the MMFA."

A.They can cheer people up.

A.Physical activities were popular in the 19th century.

B.Sports are considered to be harmful to the body.

C.Ideas of treating illnesses are changing over time.

D.Doctors prescribe museum visits regularly now.

4、What is the main idea of the text?

A.Museum visits are ideal for the elderly.

B.Happy chemical helps to lift mood.

C.Peaceful environment helps escape pain.

D.Cultural activities will promote health.

23.(8分)We all know what it is like to be unable to turn your head because of a cold in the muscles (肌肉) of your neck, or because an unexpected twist (扭曲) has made your neck ache. The slightest move makes you jump with pain. Nothing could be worse than a pain in the neck.

That is why we use the phrase to describe some people who give you the same feeling. We have all met such people.

One is the man who always seems to be clapping his hands—often at the wrong time—during a performance in the theater. He keeps you from hearing the actors.

Even worse are those who can never arrive before the curtain goes up and the play begins. They come

hurrying down to your row of seats. You are comfortably settled down, with your hat and heavy coat in your lap. You must stand up to let them pass. You are proud of yourself-control after they have settled into their seats...Well, what now ... God, one of them is up again. He forgot to go to the men 's room, and once more you have to stand up, hanging on to your hat and coat to let him pass. Now, that is "a pain in the neck".

Another, well-known to us all, is the person sitting behind you in the movies. His mouth is full of popcorn (爆米花); he is chewing (嚼) loudly, or talking between bites to friends next to him. None of them remain still. Up and down, back and forth, they go for another bag of popcorn, or something to drink.

Then, there is the man sitting next to you at lunch, smoking. He wants you to enjoy it too, and blows smoke across your food into your mouth.

We must not forget the man who comes into a bus or subway and sits down next to you, just as close as you will let him. You are reading the newspaper and he gets closer so that he can read the paper with you. He may even turn the paper to the next page before you are ready for it.

We also call such a person a "rubber neck", always getting close to where it does not belong, like neighbors who watch all your visitors. They enjoy learning about your personal business. People have a strong dislike for "rubber necks". They hate being watched secretly.

1、According to the passage, how do you feel when late comers walk back and forth in front of you in a cinema?

A.Disturbed. B.Bored.

C.Ignored. D.Relaxed.

2、A "rubber neck" often .

A.says bad words behind people

B.quarrels face to face with neighbors

C.bargains with salespeople over the price

D.asks about other people's business

3、Which of the following persons CANNOT be described as "a pain in the neck"?

A.Someone who often claps at the wrong time during a performance.

B.Someone who feels ache in his neck due to a cold in the muscles.

C.Someone who sits next to you smoking, which you never enjoy.

D.Someone who keeps eating or talking all through the movies.

4、What is the main purpose of the author?

A.To tell people what might be bad manners in public.

B.To criticize (批评) the people who might be "a pain in the neck".

C.To show anger to those who are described as "a pain in the neck".

D.To tell people how to stop the pain in the neck.

24.(8分)Microsoft has developed a new smartphone app that interprets eye signals and translates them into letters, allowing people with motor neurone disease to communicate with others from a phone.

The GazeSpeak app combines a smartphone’s camera with artificial intelligence to recognize eye movements in real time and convert them into letters, words and sentences.

For people suffering from ALS(渐冻症), also known as motor neurone disease, eye movement can be the only way they are able to communicate.

“Current eye-tracking input systems for people with ALS or other motor impairments are expensive, not robust under sunlight, and require frequent re-calibration (重新校对) and substantial, relatively immobile setups,” said Xiaoyi Zhang, a researcher at Microsoft who developed the technology.

“To mitigate the drawback,we created GazeSpeak, an eye-gesture communication system that runs on a smartphone, and is designed to be low-c ost, robust, portable and easy to learn.”

The app is used by the listener by pointing their smartphone at the speaker. A chart that can be stuck to the back of the smartphone is then used by the speaker to determine which eye movements to make in order to communicate.

The sticker shows four grids of letters, which each correspond to a different eye movement. By looking up, down, left or right, the speaker selects which grids the letters they want belong to. The artificial intelligence algorithm(计算程序)is then able to predict the word or sentence they are trying to say.

1、Who is the smartphone app designed for?

A.People with motor eye disease.

B.People suffering from eye communication.

C.People with problems in intelligence.

D.People suffering from motor neurone disease.

2、The underlined word “mitigate” in the fifth paragraph probably means ________.

3、According to the text, ________.

A.for people suffering from ALS, eye movement is one of the best ways to communicate.

B.a new communication system that runs on a smartphone is designed to be immobile.

C.the speaker could use the app by pointing their smartphone at the listener.
