伦敦三一学院口语等级考试(GESE -- Graded Examinations in Spoken English)至今已有几十年的历史, 在欧亚、拉美的四、五十个国家和地区开展。

此项测试适于6-7岁以上母语为非英语的英语学习者。

此项测试共分为四段12个级别。1-3级为预备段;4-6级为初级段;7-9级为中级段;10-12级为高级段。高一级别的考试内容均涵盖低于该级别的其它级别内容。

考试形式为考生与考官进行一对一的交谈。

考试成绩评定:A—优秀,B—良好,C—及格,D—不及格。

预备段(1-3级)

考试时间:1级-5分钟,2级-6分钟,3级-7分钟。

总体要求:

●考生在考官帮助下,能听懂考官简明、慢速、直接的指令和要求,并做出相应的手势或动作。

●就个人熟悉的日常生活与考官进行简单交谈。

●使用基本句型以及简单的短语、词组以及惯用语句描述自己或他人的行为、物品和场景。

●能够根据个人信息和日常生活进行简单的提问和回答。

要点提示:

●预备段考试主要以问与答的形式进行。考官的主要任务是调动考生以有限的语言能力参与到真实有趣的交流中去。

●考官可能使用与考试级别相关的考具,如图片、实物等。考生应熟悉日常生活中所使用物品的名称。

●考生若没有听清考官的问题或指令,可以用“Can you repeat that,please?”,“Sorry?”或“Pardon?”等语句或词语,请求考官重复或解释。但是多次使用此类语句会影响最终成绩。

●1级考生可以使用一、两个单词作简短回答,并能用手势或动作完成考官所给的指令。

●2级考生应能使用简单的完整句子对人和物进行描述,如“My brother’s tall. He’s got black hair.”。在考试过程中能够向考官提出至少一个问题。

●3级考生应能在使用完整句子的基础上,使用简单的连词,如“My brother’s tall and he’s got black hair.”。在考试过程中能够向考官提出至少一个问题。

初级段(4-6级)

考试时间:10分钟

考试内容:两部分:自选话题讨论和对话

总体要求:

●能理解、熟悉话题中所述的要点

●参与对话,就个人感兴趣或与日常生活相关的熟悉话题进行交流并陈述个人意见、看法

●具备一定的语言能力描述经历、发生的事情,说明事情原因,并能就意见、看法及计划做出说明解释

第一部分:自选话题讨论(5分钟)

考生就个人感兴趣的或任何一个熟悉的话题,根据所考级别的要求,自己事先进行准备。

自选话题不宜从第二部分的6个对话题目中选取。

话题内容应由考生自己准备,不能机械背诵。考生要熟悉所谈话题,理解含义,语言正确,恰当地表达个人观点。尽量选择与自己生活、经历有关的话题。考生在准备话题时,可以预先考虑考官围绕话题可能提出的一些问题。

考生在自选话题部分,应准备足以讨论5分钟的材料。考生可借助自带的画片,照片,图表,模型或实物进行讨论,但不可将活的动物或昆虫带入考场; 更不允许携带刀具或其它利器等危险物品进入考场。

在第一部分,所有4-6级考生都要向考官提问至少一个与自选话题相关的问题。

所有4-6级考生的自选话题部分必须填写《思维图表》(见附表1),并带入考场与考官进行讨论。

考官将从思维图表中按照任意顺序抽取所列的讲述点进行提问,考生应具备从任何讲述点开始展开话题进行交流的能力。

《思维图表》中4级要求围绕所选话题准备4个讲述点,5级应准备5个讲述点,6级应准备6个讲述点。所填写的讲述点不能太笼统,如:“Introduction to topic”, “Conclusion to topic”, “What I did next …”, 正确填法参见(附表1)。

在4级考试中,考官会问及思维图表中的4个讲述点;在5、6级考试中,考官至少会问及思维图表中4个或4个以上的讲述点。

思维图表是4、5、6级第一部分考试的关键, 若事先未填写《思维图表》,该部分考试将无法进行。考生若没有准备自选话题,本部分不给成绩,本次考试也就无法通过。

第二部分:对话(5分钟)

考官从考生所选级别的对话题目中任选两个话题与考生进行谈论。在对话部分中,考官虽然只选两个话题与考生交谈,但该级别中列出的所有话题考生都需做充分准备。

考官也可能使用与日常生活相关的图片与考生展开讨论。这一部分的考试要求考生具有相应的语言能力,应能与考官开展真实有内容而又轻松的交流。

对话部分不过多地采用一问一答方式进行,要求考生尽量主动表述,尽可能引入所考级别要求的语言功能及语法项目。

在本部分中,5级考生应至少问考官1个与对话话题相关的问题;6级考生应至少问考官2个与对话话题相关的问题。

中级段(7-9级)

考试时间:15分钟

考试内容: 三部分:自选话题讨论、互动交流、对话

总体要求:

●在讨论一般较熟悉的话题时,能听懂并理解较复杂的长句子。

●主动地引导话题与考官交流。交谈中能针对事或物进行清晰述说,对一般性的话题能表述自己看法和观点。

●自然地引发讨论,保持交流的延续性并使其自然地结束。

●能使用一些较复杂的句型,用词比较自然流畅,能自我纠正错误。

第一部分:自选话题讨论(5 分钟)

本部分由考生自己选择熟悉的或感兴趣的且利于展开讨论的话题;所选话题应使自己有更多机会能够运用所选级别的语言来展示自己的语言能力。

自选话题不宜从第三部分的6个对话题目中选取,以利于考生更全面更自然地展现对语言的理解和控制能力。

与4-6级不同,考生不必填写话题表,不得将自选话题写成书面材料带入考场,但可以准备所选话题的讨论提纲或图示一类的材料带入考场,但要出示给考官。考生不带提纲进入考场不影响考试的正常进行。

考生应做充分的准备以便与考官进行持续五分钟的讨论,要能够根据考官的要求就话题内容举例、解释、说明并发表个人意见。考生若没有准备自选话题,本部分不给成绩,本次考试也就无法通过。

第二部分:互动交流(4分钟)

本部分主要考察考生主动交流、掌控交流走向的能力。首先由考官提供一个情景,考生根据该情景内容主动向考官提问,以获取更多信息,并视情况发表简短评论、提出建议、表示不同看法、进行劝阻、推测等等。

双方交流的主体是考生,考生应根据考官提供的情景及给出的回答与考官不断地互动交流。考生在交流中应尽量使用所考级别要求的交际功能及语法项目。

第三部分:对话(5分钟)

考官从考生所选级别的六个对话题目中任选两个与考生进行讨论。在7-9级阶段,考生应具备主导谈话方向、把握谈话内容、保持谈话顺畅的能力,应尽量在讨论中使用级别所要求的语言功能与词汇,以展示个人的语言能力。

高级段(10-12级)

考试时间:25分钟

考试内容: 五部分

总体要求:

●在长段、复杂甚至语句不连贯的谈话中,即便听到语速快如母语为英语

之间的交流语速时,也能理解说话人的要点、论点、推断以及因谈论不同话题而使用不同的词语

●能够本能地、流利地、准确地表达差异细微的不同思想

●能把握对话的内容,轻松自如地开展谈话

●如同说母语那样,能自如运用各种句子结构,词汇及语言功能

●进行国际交往时,在词、句子、语篇层面上无沟通困难

第一部分:自选话题(约5 分钟)

考生的自选话题要求内容完整、语篇连贯、要点突出。讲述时间不超过5分钟。考生选题时应慎重,考试虽不是测评考生实际了解的知识,但讲述自选话题时应提供大量的相关信息,能引发考官对所述话题的兴趣。

考生应准备一份所选话题的简单的提纲在讲述前交与考官。考生不得将写好的文章带入考场。

第二部分:自选话题讨论(约5 分钟)

考生准备自选话题时,应对考官针对话题可能提出的问题进行预测,有准备地拓宽陈述的内容。讲述结束后,考生应主动征询考官的意见和评论,使得考生与考官开展较为真实的讨论,双方就话题的内容相互交换看法、观点和意见。

考生若无自选话题,也就无法开展话题讨论。若无前两项成绩考生本次考试将不予通过。

第三部分:互动交流(约5分钟)

互动交流部分其形式与中级段(7-9级)相同。由考官口述一小段短文,提供一个情景。考生根据所提供的情景向考官提问,了解有关信息。并对情景或考官的回答进行评论或发表见解。考生的提问应贯穿整个交流过程。考生是交流的主体,应积极主动地与考官交流。

考生若不能带动互动交流,或不能使交流持续5分钟,本部分就不可能取得好的成绩。

与中级段(7-9级)不同的是,本段的这一部分不仅要求考生能运用本级别所列的语言功能,还要求他们熟练掌握使用9级以前所有各级的语法项目。

情景短文题例:“When I was a child, we were really poor and I thought about what it would be like to be rich .I still think about this which is why I do the National Lottery every week.”

第四部分:听力(3 分钟)

听力部分有两项测试:

1.要求考生根据听力材料提供一个合理的结尾(2篇短文);

2.要求考生说明听力材料中的参与者、事情发生的情景或场合(1篇短文)。

考生只需用简单的回答来完成这两项测试。因听力材料较短,要求的回答也简单,所以考生无需作笔记。此部分要求考生有较高的各种听力技能,如预测、推断、推论等。下面是两项测试的考例:
