Deng Yaping, my role model, is short, which is a disadvantage for playing table tennis. When she was young, so many people discouraged her from taking up this sport. However, Deng believed that she would achieve her goal as long as she stuck to her dream and never gave up,which motivated her to work hard and never say die whatever difficulties she came across on her way to success. Eventually ,she won the Gold Medal in the Olympics and other international competitions. Her story proved to us that anything is possible if you follow your dream.

In the English Reading Week, one of m classmates recommended a quote to us which goes like this : "Your future depends on many things but mostly on you. " I can't agree more with this view. It's true that our future is determined by many things, such as opportunities and help from others, but our own attitude, determination, and hard work play a more important role. In other words, we are the master of our own future.

Take Abraham Lincoln for example. He was born in a poor family, and only received a limited education in his childhood. Yet through his painstaking efforts, he changed not only his own fate but also the history of America. Even to this day, Lincoln is regarded as one of the most inspiring figures in the world. Therefore, I firmly believe that our future is in our own hands.（146）

Hello, everyone! I feel greatly honored to stand here and give you a short speech. My name is LiHua, a lively girl with a wide smile. I have various

interests, but I’m crazy about science, and eager to become a great scientist in the future.

When it comes to my idol, I can’t help thinking of Thomas Edison, a strong-minded and diligent inventor. During his whole life time, he devoted himself to science and inventing new things. Thanks to his efforts, many of his new inventions are of great use to human beings. And some are still very popular today.

Inspired by Thomas Edison, I also want to be a scientist, who will make great contributions to human beings. To achieve my dream, I’ll spare no efforts to learn more and apply what I ‘ve learned to practice. What’s more, I should keep confident and never give up.
