Nola (August 21, 1974—November 22, 2015) was a northern white rhino who lived at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park near Escondido, California. At her death, she was one of only four remaining northern white rhinos in the world. The other three lived in Kenya. World Rhino Day, held on September 2, is to raise awareness of the less than 30, 000 other rhinos left on Earth.

"Rhinos need our help today, not tomorrow," Nola's lead keeper Jane Kennedy said. "Last year we lost over 1,200 rhinos just in South Africa. If we continue to lose more than 1,000 rhinos a year, in 10 to 20 years all the rhinos on the planet will be gone."

"Unfortunately, most animals are in danger of dying out because of humans," Kennedy says. "Humans have either poached animals, or because there are over seven billion of us, we've taken up too much of the world's resources". Poachers illegally hunt rhinos for their horns. They sell the horns for thousands of dollars per pound, to be used for art, jewelry, and decorations. Experts believe that one rhino is poached every eight hours.

In 1975, the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research started the Frozen Zoo, a program through which researchers have collected cell (细胞) samples from more than 8,000 different types of animals, including the northern white rhino. Scientists hope that by studying the rhino cells, they will get greater understanding of it, and will find ways to increase its numbers.

Jane Kennedy describes World Rhino Day as "a celebration of rhinos along with an awareness campaign for everybody across the world to know that rhinos need our help." At the San Diego Zoo, children and adults are welcome to visit and speak with zookeepers to learn about rhinos. But you don't have to live in San Diego to celebrate World Rhino Day. It is observed around the world, with zoos and wildlife parks holding special events and programs to teach people about rhinos, and enable them to see the animals up close. For more information, go to https://www.360docs.net/doc/4117985672.html,.

49. What do we know about Nola?

B. It was one of the last of its kind.

C. It lived with other northern white rhinos in Kenya.

D. It died on September 22 at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

50. What troubled Jane Kennedy according to Paragraph 2?

A. The rhinos' uncertain future.

B. The rhinos' strange activities.

C. The limited natural resources.

D.The rare animals in South Africa.

51. What does the Frozen Zoo aim to do?

A. Invent new kinds of animals.

B. Keep animals from dying out.

C. Prevent rhinos from being hunted.

D. Raise public awareness of protecting rhinos.

52. What is the main purpose of the last paragraph?

A. To help people know more about animals.

B. To encourage people to protect rhinos.

C. To report special events in San Diego.

D. To introduce World Rhino Day.

All networks like 3G and 4G will be things of the past, because 5G will be reachable in the near future. So, what's so special about a 5G future? First of all, its download speed can be as fast as 20GB/s, which is 100 to 200 times that of 4G. But what's more impressive is 5G's low delay rate. Now, 4G takes an average of 200 milliseconds to send and receive information. But 5G will get it down to 1 millisecond.

5G is a great breakthrough. It's going to change the way equipment connects to the Internet, and more importantly, to each other. And self-driving cars may be one of the biggest breakthroughs to come out of 5G. Human reaction time is 200 milliseconds, yet we still have accidents every day. The self-driving car under a 5G network could react and communicate its reaction to hundreds of cars around it, all within 1 millisecond. It will play a great role in preventing car accidents and ending traffic jams completely.

5G can benefit us in many other ways. Operations could be performed by robots controlled

by experts from the other side of the world. Therefore, more lives will be saved in time. Factories can be staffed by robots that can communicate their tasks to each other, and they can do more work efficiently over a 5G network. Imagine a group of drones(无人机) flying over a field of crops, using sensors on the ground to sort, pick, feed, and water plants all on their own. Then farmers won't have to work so hard anymore.

However, 5G is not perfect. One major disadvantage has to do with why it's so fast. 5G uses the millimeter waves, while 4G uses the 15 to 40 centimeter-long waves. And shorter waves go fast but not very far. On 4G networks, the signal can go 10 kilometers. But the 5G signal can go at most 300 meters, and it can't even go through walls or rain. So, what does that mean? Having such a short signal distance means we need to build a lot of transmitters(信号发射塔) in the future.

53. How does the author show us 5G's advantages in Paragraph 1?

A. By giving examples of the uses of 5G.

B. By making comparisons between 4G and 5G.

C. By explaining the scientific principles of 5G.

D. By analyzing 5G's development from 4G.

54. According to the author, the self-driving cars will ________.

A. cause more car accidents

B. slow down 5G's development

C. run without being connected to the Internet

D. have a much faster reaction speed than humans

55. What does the underlined part "be staffed by robots" in Paragraph 3 mean?

A. Be built by robots.

B. Have robots as workers.

C. Offer employees home robots.

D. Produce more medical robots.

56. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?

A. The main weakness of 5G networks.

B. How to make 4G networks more perfect.

C. The types of long waves and short waves.

D. How to improve the signal of mobile phones.

D

There's a song by the great Jamaican singer Bob Marley called So Much Trouble In The World. Marley understood that part of the reason why there are so many problems in the world is the lack of tolerance between people. The UN understands this too––– that's why it made Nov. 16th "International Day for Tolerance".

But first of all, what is tolerance? According to French philosopher V oltaire, tolerance is the consequence of humanity. "We are all formed of frailty (脆弱) and error; let us pardon each other's fool––– that is the first law of nature. "

Very often, people don't realize that they're intolerant. This is because intolerance has a lot to do with ignorance. For example, the UN's campaign is in part about the treatment of females by males. But often, the behavior of men towards women is intolerant because men don't put

themselves in the shoes of women.

It's worth thinking a little about the words "tolerance" and "intolerance". Are they the best words to describe the evils of which we're speaking here? To agree to be "tolerant" of someone isn't necessarily a very respectful thing. When someone is tolerated, it implies that there's something wrong with them.

Still, what V oltaire said stands: We humans are not perfect and this weakness is something that we all share. That's the reason why we should be tolerant. It's a little like generosity. We can give things to another person, and we can also give our forgiveness.

57. What's the purpose of the UN "International Day For Tolerance"?

A. To arouse people's awareness of tolerance among people.

B. To celebrate the founding of the UN.

C. To solve the problem of global community.

D. To change people’s opinions towards globalization.

58. Why do men behave intolerantly towards women?

A. Because men don't realize the purpose of the UN.

B. Because men are physically stronger than women.

C. Because men don't appreciate the shoes of women.

D. Because men are not willing to understand women.

59. Why is it meaningless to use the words "tolerance" and "intolerance"?

A. Because they are hard to pronounce in English.

B. Because they don't express the exact meaning people refer to.

C. Because they can't be translated into other languages.

D. Because they can't be used in a respectful way.

60. In what sense is "tolerance" similar to "generosity"?

A. Humans are advised to treat others better.

B. Humans leant to find faults in others.

C. Humans need to give something to others.

D. Humans will change their attitudes to others.

In an online class, developing healthy patterns of communication with professors is very important. 61 While I have only listed two of each, there are obviously many other situations that can arise. Students should be able to extend the logic of each to their particular circumstance.

Do's

?62 Questions about subject content are generally welcomed. Before asking questions about the course design, read the syllabus (教学大纲) and learning management system information to be sure the answer isn't hiding in plain sight.

?Participate in discussion forums (论坛), blogs and other open-ended forums for dialogue.

63 Be sure to stay on topic and not offer irrelevant information. Make a point, and make it safe for others to do the same.

Don'ts

?Don't share personal information or stories. Professors are not trained nurses, financial aid experts or your best friends. If you are in need of a deadline extension, simply explain the situation to the professor. 64

?Don't openly express annoyance at a professor or class.65 When a student attacks a professor on the social media, the language used actually says more about the student. If there is truly a concern about a professor's professionalism or ability, be sure to use online course evaluations to calmly offer your comments.

A. That's what they are for.

B. Turn to an online instructor for help.

C. If more information is needed, they will ask.

D. Remember that online professors get a lot of emails.

第三节写作(满分15分)

Dear Editor,

I am Li Hua, a student from Jinshan Senior High School. I’m writing to talk about my

ideas on the protection of cultural relics.

Nowadays, with the development of our society, more and more cultural relics are facing the danger of disappearing. Therefore,we must try our best to protect them for the following reasons. Cultural relics represent our historic cultures, which offer us a great opportunity to learn about what happened in the past. Moreover, having survived for a long time, most of them can help make our unique and valuable cultures handed down from generation to generation.

For the above reasons, we shouldn't hesitate to call on people to take action to save our treasures. I hope more people will become concerned about protecting our cultural relics.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua
