In 2010,writer Ding Yan made a decision to leave her hometown in west China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for Dongguan,a manufacturing(制造业) capital in south China's Guangdong Province. The first summer camp for Russian high school students started at the Confucius Institute Headquarters (孔子学院总部) in Beijing. It attracted 172 students and teachers from all over Russia.

During the two-week summer camp, students stayed in Beijing for three days and visited famous places. The students were invited to the Hanban exhibition hall (展览大厅).
