Teaching and learning steps:

Step I.Learn how to read the new words on P129

1. First, ask the Ss to try reading the new words in Unit 11by themselves and mark the difficult words.

2. Next, play the tape and ask the Ss to read after the tape to correct the pronunciation. Especially read the difficult words.

3. Then, Get one or two groups to read all the words. Ask the good students to correct the wrong pronunciations. If necessary, the teacher corrects them.

4. Get one or two middle-level students to read all the words again, the others say them out in Chinese.

5. Read after the tape again and pay attention to the pronunciation or give necessary help.

(设计意图:该步骤能有效培养学生个人识读单词的学习习惯,这是学习单词的重要一步;能培养学生自主、探究和合作学习的能力。首先学生自己根据音标识读单词,并标出识读时有困难的单词。接着两人一组或以小组为单位解决遇到的困难。然后找一两个小组读单词,请好学生先纠正,还有问题,教师再更正。让一两个同学读单词,其他的说出汉语。最后让学生跟录音读。降低识读难度,提高全体学生积极性。鼓励没过关的学生课前课后努力赶上。)

设计意图:根据相同/似读音拼写单词。英语年是拼音文字,其读音和拼写有直接关系,建立单词音、形的对应关系能够让学生利用已经学过的单词去识读新单词。

3. Remember the words and phrases by conversion(转换), compound (合成)and derivative (派生)

(1)Conversion(转换):一个单词(或短语)由一种词类用作另一种词类

④ Fast trains go fast.

(2) Compound (合成): 将两个或两个以上的单词合成在一起而构成的新词

① any + thing = anything

② country + side = countryside

③ every + thing = everything

(3) Derivative(派生): 在词根上加前缀或后缀构成另一个与原意略有变化或截然相反的词

① farm + er = farmer

② excite + ing=exciting

③ interest + ed=interested

④ love + ly = lovely

(设计意图:根据构词法转换、合成、派生and对比记忆单词的结构。英语的词汇无限,英语的词根有限,很多词都是通过附加词缀变化而来,因此根据构词法记忆词汇非常有效。)

(设计意图:此环节为巩固单词。这一环节有少部分的学生往往不达标,需要利用自习课或课余的时间让小组长跟踪检查,尽量能让全部学生顺利过关。)

Step IV. Learn how to use the new words and phrases in a story

It was Sunday yesterday, so I went to my dad’s farm to help him. There were quite a lot of cows and horses on his farm. He was an excellent farmer. He grew some flowers and fed some chickens. Because it was the countryside, he always worried about his everything. Luckily, my dad bought a lovely and cheap robot. It could go fast in the dark. If someone came to his farm, he would get an expensive gift. All in all, it was an exciting farm.

(设计意图:在语境中猜测词汇的意义。教学中不时所有的生词都要教,有些生词课让学生通过上下文(context)来猜测。词不离句,句不离文。词汇教学应采用词—句—文的教学模式,让学生将单词用到句子和语篇中。在学生记忆本单元单词的基础上,再学习由本单元的生词编成的一篇文章,体现了词不离句的教学原则,有助于学生学习理解和使用本单元的词汇。)

当堂检测题还可以让学生以小组互查的形式来检查单词的掌握情况,以便所有学生都可以参与。
