In the USA, there are many kinds of restaurants.

Fast food restaurants are very famous. You can find McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken in many countries around the world. You look at a menu (菜单) on the counter (柜台), and say what you’d like to eat. You pay the person who brings food to you. You take your food and sit down or take it away. There’s no need to leave a tip (小费).

In coffee shops, you sit at the counter or at a table. You don’t wait for the waitres s to show you where to sit. S he usually brings you coffee when you sit down. You tell her what you’d like to eat and she brings it to you. You pay the cashier (收银员) as you leave.

In family restaurants, the waitress leads you to your table. Often the waitress tells you her name, bu t you don’t need to tell her yours. If you can’t finish eating everything, your waitress gives you a bag to take the rest of food home. You should add fifteen per cent to the bill (账单) as a tip.

In top class restaurants, you had better order before you come, and you need to arrive on time. The waiter shows you where to sit. If there is wine there, he may ask you to taste it. Japan:

Nature’s Warnings

When the sky suddenly turns dark and the wind is strong, beware! A dangerous storm might be coming. Storms are frightening. Watch for flashes of lightning. Listen for thunder. If nature sends these warnings, don’t wait for rain. Act right away to keep safe.

Safety Steps

At the first flash of lightning, quickly get inside a building or a car. Do not go into a shed or baseball dugout. They are not closed like a building, so they are not safe.

Even after you are indoors, be careful. It is not smart to go near doors and windows. They can blow in or break. A room with no windows is the safest place to be.

Do not wash your hands during a storm. Do not use anything that runs on electricity either. Water and electrical lines are like roads for lightning. Even if you really want to play computer games, don’t! It is better to be bored than to risk getting hurt. Try reading a book instead. Reading is more fun than playing computer games.

If you can’t get to somewhere safe, stay out in the open. You may feel safe under a tree, but that is not a good place to be. Lightning is pulled toward tall poles and trees. Stay down low in an open space and cover your ears to protect them. Loud thunder can damage your hearing.

The haze season is back. How much do you know about haze? Haze can also be called “Smog”. The word “smog” is from the words “smoke” and “fog”. It is a kind of air pollution(污染) mostly because of cars and factories.

Smog will do great harm(伤害) to your health. It can make you cough and have skin and eye problems. It seems that we can do nothing to stop it, but only wait until the wind blows all the smog away. However, there are some easy ways to stop it hurting you. Here are some of them.

1. Don’t do exercise in the open.

Exercising in the open makes you breathe(呼吸) deeply, and you will take in the particles(颗粒物) deep into your lungs.

2. Stay indoors and keep the air clean.

If you can, just stay in your room and keep the doors and windows closed. Remember to air your room twice a day, you can open the window at noon or at night for half an hour.

3. Wear a mask.

Paper and cotton masks can not help you in the haze weather. Some special masks, such as

N95 masks, can keep you from breathing in the particles in the air.

4. Change your diet.

Scientists find that vitamin A, C and E can greatly help protect your eyes, nose and lungs. So eat more green vegetables and fresh fruit every day. What’s more, do not eat food with too much fat.

Nearly every parent says that we never grow up．In fact, we are maybe 16 or 17 years old．In their eyes, we are always little ones and always do wrong things．For example, when I need to stay at home alone, they always worry about me and my life without them.

Most parents always think that they have offered the best things they can make their children live in a comfortable world．They buy their children pretty clothes, cool shoes, expensive school things, and often a thousand-Yuan-cost bike．They think that they have done everything that they can for their dear children．In return, they only want their children to get good results in the examinations.

But why their children still can’t understand them? Does it mean that they still want more material things? No．In fact, what they want is a true family．What does a true family mean? I think it means a place where we can hide ourselves from the cold world outside．From here, we can get warmth, we can get consolation （安慰）, and we can get happiness．And one important

thing is that we should be stronger and more confident（自信）in the outside world because we know that we have a family.

So I think that parents should sit down to talk with their children to let them know that they have a true family, so the children and their parents could understand each other more and more．Then, no children will always be little ones in their eyes.
