按照语言学习规律，英语写作教学的次序应是：词一句一篇。“词”是基础，“句”是过渡，“篇”是目的。整个训练遵循“词不离句，句不离篇”的原则，由易到难，由简到繁，循序渐进，不断提高。这三个阶段彼此衔接，教会学生在大量的语言实践中学会运用词句，从而在书面表达教学中实现“教、学、用”三者的统一。
