Cultural differences of " walking in the air "

" Walk in the clouds ", a lighthearted romances, won the 1997 session of the Shanghai International Film Festival Grand prize. like other films, although the process is labyrinthian, ending is eventually relatively perfect. The plot of the movie reflect the United States and Mexico between different cultural conflict. This conflict is expressed in many aspects, such as the concept of love, family authority and cultural tolerance of difference.

The heroine is a Mexican, and the hero are American. Therefore, there are a lot inevitably culture conflicts in life. Mexico culture belongs to the collective culture, and American culture is individualism culture. The plot of the film reflects the enormous cultural differences.

In the movie culture, conflict between the United States and Mexico are mainly embodied in the following three aspects:

1. Different view of marriage.

The Mexicans focus on the family. Each member are responsible for the family. Usually, marriages were arranged by the parents, lack of personal choice. The Americans emphasis on individual freedom. Everyone can choose their own marriage.

2 The authority of family members.

In Mexico, parents has absolute authority. However, in the United States, each members of the family are equal. Parents respect their

children. Everyone has the right to make decisions for life;

3 Culture of inclusiveness.

Mexicans Seriously mistrust and refuse foreign culture. However, American culture is more open and more inclusive.
