二、完形填空(共20小题;每小题1分,满分20分)

Many people associate crying with weakness. If a person easily breaks down, it gives the

16 that the person is soft and can easily be overpowered. But many do not know that tears have

a purpose. It has a 17 after effect on a person that can give comfort and strength to 18 any negative feeling or depression.

People cry for a reason. You may cry because you are too happy or too sad or very angry. Letting your tears flow freely gives you a sense of 19 to be true to your feelings and to yourself. Just like water that washes off filth, tears 22 wash off the negative thoughts and feelings. That is why when you are in pain or in sorrow, do not 23 and let your tears roll down naturally. After a while you will feel that you somehow feel a bit better. Your tears become a form of 24 when problems become too much for us to bear.

In my opinion, people who are not afraid to cry 25 are stronger than those who hold back the tears for later. If the reason for crying is 26 and your emotions are very strong, you have no reason to be ashamed.

Tears can make you 27 in a way. When faced with a problem, people who hold back their tears tend to constantly worry and stress about the problem and fail to see the 28 right away. This makes them more prone to weakness and to more mistakes. These people may 29 strong because they hide what they truly feel. But the truth is, all the pretensions make them a weaker person.

On the other hand, people who openly 30 themselves to cry, whether in public or in private get to release their 31 emotions much sooner than those who are ashamed to do so. After crying, these people feel more calm and can then begin to think straight. 32 the negative thoughts and emotions have been reduced, they can see things 33 and can easily think of ways to solve the problem.

As the saying goes, “The truth shall set you free.” Tears show others your true emotions. Do not be afraid to express what you truly feel. 34 is letting your natural reactions out without any fear or embarrassment. You are simply being true to your heart and to yourself. Your true strength is using your tears to easily 35 your moment of suffering. Now that is the power of tears.

An agreement between Chinese and British copyright agencies was signed in Beijing on Tuesday, which places Chinese written works under the umbrella against copyright violation in Britain.

As the latest step of the Sino-UK cooperation on copyright regulation and operation, the agreement was signed between the UK Copyright Licensing Agency and the China Written Works Copyright Society at the 6th UK-China Intellectual Property Salon on Tuesday evening.

The agreement will for the first time place Chinese written works in the British market, including books, articles in newspapers and magazines and academic papers, under the protection of the CLA, a nonprofit organization which has authorized more than 39,000 organizations and publications to copy and use copyright works while obtaining fair rewards for rights holders.

From now on, any copy or use of physical or digital forms of Chinese written works in the UK will be under the inspection of CLA, which will charge fees to users and forward them to the Chinese authors and publishers.

Yan Xiaohong, deputy chief of the Chinese National Copyright Administration, said the agreement marks a milestone in copyright protection for Chinese works in overseas markets.

“It will encourage more Chinese writers and publishers to produce more high-quality copyright works appealing to foreigners, and gua rantee their economic benefits,” Yan said.

“Also, it will serve as a guide for more agreements of its kind to be signed with copyright collective management agencies in other countries and regions of the world. Eventually, this kind of cooperation will inc rease Chinese cultural exports.” The CWWCS is the only valid organization approved by the National Copyright Administration to collectively manage and operate copyright in China.

Kevin Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of the CLA, is confident the British agency will provide a safe and fair environment for the influence of Chinese written works to grow in UK.

“It’s significant for the Chinese publishing industry’s global development. We are happy to be part of the teamwork, which will protect copyright holders’ economic benefits from being harmed by piracy and violation,”Fitzgerald said. Richard Mollet, chair of the UK Publisher’s Association and the UK Alliance for Intellectual Property, and UK Minister for Intellectual Property Baroness

Lucy Neville-Rolfe also attended the signing ceremony.

Most people don’t get enough sleep at night. For many people being sleep deprived means not functioning as well as they could be, but for millions of other people lack of sleep is a sign of a serious health condition.

People who are suffering from exhaustion, high blood pressure and inexplicable headaches are all showing symptoms of a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Why don’t people with OSA get the sleep that they need every night? The answer may surprise you —it’s snoring!

Snoring causes a person to wake up throughout the night. For most, snoring is simply a case of having to move your body from a bad position into one that’s more comfortable to breathe in. But for the 18 million people in the United States suffering from OSA, snoring is their body’s cry for help. Throughout the night people with OSA literally stop breathing. They stop breathing because the muscles in their mouth, jaw, and throat relax, blocking the free flow of air in the airway. These moments of suffocation can last for up to an entire minute. A person with OSA wakes up hundreds of times during a single night as their bodies try not to suffocate. Snoring is their body’s only way to get enough air to breathe.

The result is that when people with OSA get out of bed in the morning, they feel like they haven’t slept at all. And it’s true— they have not had a full sleep cycle. Not only are their bodies exhausted, they have opened up an entire range of new health problems that are associated with this extreme sleep loss, including heart attacks, depression, strokes, memory loss, acid reflux and diabetes.

In the past, ther e weren’t that many treatment options available for people with sleep apnea. They could go and get an expensive diagnosis, and then drop several thousand dollars visiting a sleep clinic that would require an annoying overnight visit. One of the possible outcomes for such patients would be having to strap themselves into a CPAP breathing device for the entire night —that’s one of those breathing masks attached to an explosive tank next to your bed. Or worse, they would have to undergo a painful and invasive surgery.

Luckily, all that has changed!

Now there is the chin strap by MySnoringSolution. It’s a comfortable and affordable treatment for OSA that keeps your breathing passages open while you wear it in bed. This treatment method has been found to be effective in a recent study at the Eastern Virginia Medical

School’s Division of Sleep Medicine and it is clinically tested and doctor approved. It works by keeping the jaw and tongue from loosening up, thereby keeping the airway unobstructed. Made from lightw eight materials with the sleeper’s maximum comfort in mind, the chin strap has helped thousands get the sleep that their bodies have always needed at night.

MySnoringSolution is so sure the chin strap will solve all of your sleep apnea troubles, no matter what your reason, you have 90 days to return your chin strap and get a full refund of your money (so you basically risk nothing by trying this out).

It’s not just about getting a full night’s sleep—it’s about getting to sleep in a way that is comfortable for you. Try MySnoringSolution now, get a good night’s sleep at last and end your snoring problems once and for all!

If you are a Dropbox user, then this piece of news will certainly set alarm bells ringing. Apparently, cybercriminals belonging to an unknown group have threatened to expose login details of more than seven million users worldwide.

According to a Reddit thread, links to multiple files storing confidential Dropbox user-login details including usernames and passwords have been found.

These personal user details were said to have been stored in plain text format, thus making them easily accessible to leaks and unauthorised use of account.

Leaks were reportedly found within a web portal (入口) called Pastebin, which according to Next Web contains the login credentials (凭证) of an estimated 400 Dropbox user accounts.

Hackers are apparently demanding Bitcoin donations in return for the stolen user login credentials, and have reportedly threatened to release more Dropbox user credentials online if their demands are not met.

Dropbox denies user-credential hack.

In a statement to Next Web, Dropbox has denied that the cloud storage service (and its server) was hacked. It added that user credentials were obtained by cyber criminals via third-party

services and applications.

The company also stated that a significant number of passwords currently posted by hackers online have expired (失效) long ago.

Finally, Dropbox adds that it had earlier detected attacks similar to the current username/password breach, and had taken precautions such as resorting to performing automatic password reset on 'suspicious' accounts.

“Dropbox has not been hacked. These usernames and passwords were unfortunately stolen from other services and used in attempts to log in to Dropbox accounts. We'd previously detected these attacks and the vast majority of the passwords posted have been expired for some time now. All other remaining passw ords have been expired as well,” said Dropbox, in a statement to Next Web.

The cloud storage company is also currently sending out emails to its users cautioning them to reset account password, in order to add security to their Dropbox account.

In summary, even though Dropbox has denied that its servers were breached, and laid the blame for the latest hack on third-party applications, do remember that the company's servers allow third-party apps to access the cloud-storage platform.

WHEN THE TWINS left Scarlett standing on the porch of Tara and the last sound of flying hooves had died away, she went back to her chair like a sleepwalker. Her face felt stiff as from pain and her mouth actually hurt from having stretched it, unwillingly, in smiles to prevent the twins from learning her secret. She sat down wearily, and her heart swelled up with misery, until it felt too large for her bosom. Her hands were cold, and a feeling of disaster oppressed her. There were pain and bewilderment in her face, the bewilderment of a pampered child who has always had her own way for the asking and who now, for the first time, was in contact with the unpleasantness of life.

Ashley to marry Melanie Hamilton!

Oh, it couldn’t be true! The twins were mistaken. They were playing one of their jokes on her.

Ashley couldn’t, couldn’t be in love with her. Nobody could, not with a mousy little person like Melanie. Scarlett recall ed with contempt Melanie’s thin childish figure, her serious heart-shaped face that was plain almost to homeliness. And Ashley couldn’t have seen her in months. He hadn’t been in Atlanta more than twice since the house party he gave last year at

Yet some people know little about it and some even misunderstand its nature and function. Insurance is the sharing of risks. Nearly everyone is exposed to risk of some sort. The house owner, for example, knows that his property can be damaged by fire; the ship-owner knows that his ships may be lost at sea; the breadwinner knows that he may die at an early age and leave his family poorer. On the other hand, not every house is damaged by fire nor every ship is lost at sea. If these persons each put a small sum into a pool, there will be enough to meet the needs of the few who do suffer losses. In other words, the losses of the few are met from the contributions of the many. This is the basis of insurance. Those who pay the contribution are known as insured and those who administer the pool of contributions as insurers. The legal basis of all insurance is the policy. This is a printed form of contract on a piece of paper in best quality. It states that every year the insured shall pay a named sum of money, which is called the premium; in return, the insurer will pay a sum of money or compensation for loss if the risk or event insured against actually happens. The premium for an insurance naturally depends upon how likely the risk is to happen, as suggested by past experience. If companies fix their premiums too high, there will be more

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 A “It happened over three years ago,” Paddy said helplessly. No one answered him or moved, for no one knew what to do. “Just don't tell my mother,” said Fee numbly. “And no one did! Oh, God! My poor, poor Fran k!” Paddy wiped the tears from his face and said. “Fee dear, pack your things. We'll go to see him.” She half-rose before sinking back, her eyes in her small white face stared as if dead. “I can't go,” she said without a hint of pain, yet making everyone feel that the pain was there. “It would kill him to see me. I know him so well—his pride, his ambition. Let him bear the shame alone, it's what he wants. We've got to help him keep his secret. What good will it do him to see us?” Paddy was still weeping, not for Frank, but for the life which had gone from Fee's face, for the dying in her eyes. Frank had always brought bitterness and misfortune, always stood between Fee and himself. He was the cause of her withdrawal from his heart and the hearts of his children. Every time it looked as if there might be happiness for Fee, Frank took it away. But Paddy's love for her was as deep and impossible to wipe out as hers was for Frank. So he said. “Well, Fee, we won't go. But we must make sure he is taken care of. How about if I write to Father Jones and ask him to look out for Frank?” The eyes didn't liven, but a faint pink stole into her cheeks. “Yes, Paddy, do that. Only make sure he knows not to tell Frank we found out. Perhaps it would ease Frank to think for certain that we don't know.” 1. Which of the following is true according to the passage? A. Frank was found guilty of murder because he was a professional boxer. B. The family didn't find out what happened to Frank until three years later. C. The jury and the judge disagreed on whether Frank had committed murder. D. Frank didn't want his family to find out what happened because Paddy disliked him.
