“论”古同“抡”，有“挑选”之含义，因为《论语》的内容是其弟子挑选整理的孔子及其弟子的言行，故读第二声。
最值得注意的是两句诗中的“论”字读音：一是杜甫的《咏怀古迹》诗句：“千载琵琶作胡语，分明怨恨曲中论。”此处的“论”应读“lún”，意为“抒发出来、表达出来”。二是南朝乐府民歌《孔雀东南飞》中句：“生当作死别，恨恨那可论。”此处的“论”也读“lún”，意为“说、说得尽”。
孔子（前551－前479）名丘，字仲尼，英文：Confucius在家族中年龄排行第二，故也有人称为孔老二，春秋时鲁国陬邑人，汉族，享年73岁，葬于曲阜城北泗水南岸即今日孔林所在地。我国历史上伟大的思想家、教育家和政治家，文学家。
孔子早年丧父，家境衰落。他曾说过：“吾少也贱，故多能鄙事。”年轻时做过委吏（管理粮仓）与乘田（管理牲畜）。他虽然生活贫苦，但好学上进善于取法他人，曾说过：“三人行，必有我师焉。择其善者而从之，其不善者而改之。”由于他知识渊博，开始授徒讲学，是私人讲学之风的开创者，打破了学在官府的传统，进一步促进了学术下移，对我国教育事业的发展做出了重大贡献。
北宋政治家赵普曾有：“半部《论语》治天下”之说。它从一个侧面反映出此书在中国古代社会所发挥的作用与影响之大。
内容简介······
《论语》是一部语录体思想散文集。早在春秋后期孔子设坛讲学时期，其主体内容就已初始创成；孔子去世以后，他的辫子和再传弟子代代传授他的言论，并逐渐将这些口头记诵的语录言行记录下来，集腋成裘，最终在战国初年汇辑论纂成书，因此称“论”。《论语》主要记载孔子及其弟子的言行，因此称为“语”。
孔子思想以立身为出发点，而人能立身于世的首要条件就是具有“君子”人格。君子具备仁爱之心，自重自律；表里如一，言行一致；积极进取，德才兼备；孜孜于学，注重实践；安贫乐道，谨守正义等等；始终坚守人之间的相处之道，遵从不同的伦理关系，构建着和谐友爱的人际关系和社会环境。
古人都是通过背书，才成为状元的……如今，现代人已没有这样的习惯了。据书中简介曰：“背书要趁早，越早越好；经典如佳酿，越久越香。”《三字经》云：“论语者，二十篇，群弟子，记善言。” 此书还可以用于中考的字词、做人的道理、高考的名句和古今的智慧！
下面，我们来讲一讲《论语》中的十则名句。
1.有子曰：其为人也孝弟，而好犯上者，鲜矣；不好犯上，而好作乱者，未之有也。君子务本，本立而道生。孝弟者也，其为人之本与！
有子：孔子的学生。
2.子夏曰：“贤贤，易色；事父母，能竭其力；事君，能置其身；与朋友交，言而有信。虽曰未学，吾必谓之学矣。”
3.子曰:“弟子入则孝，出则弟，谨而信，泛爱众而亲仁。行有余力，则以学文。”
4.有子曰：“信近于义，言可复也；恭近于义，远耻辱也。因不失其亲，亦可宗也。
