CBeebies' children's chef Katy Ashworth will once again be cooking up a storm with her inter-active

If you have never been on a cruise (乘船游览), it can seem like its own world—with its own rules and secret language. So here we are going to lay out the very basics of going on a cruise.

Do I need a passport to go on a cruise?

You may need a passport, but you should take one anyway. Besides the fact that you are going to need an ID card to board the ship in the first place, a lot of ports require one.

How much luggage can I take on board?

For the most part, cruise ships aren't like planes—there isn't a strictly regulated amount of

luggage you can take with you, and you are not going to be charged for bringing too much. Keep in mind that cabin storage space can be tight. Everything, including your empty luggage, is going to have to fit inside and you don't want to be tripping over it for your whole vacation.

Things like guns and knives are banned, but regulations vary from ship to ship about things like irons (generally a no) and hair dryers (generally a yes). Some ships allow you to bring a bottle of wine, but nearly all ban bringing your own hard alcohol.

What's the process for boarding a cruise ship?

Boarding a cruise ship is like boarding a plane—there are regulations or when to arrive, how to check-in, and what security you have to go through. Most cruise lines have transportation available from the airport; otherwise they normally own a paid parking lot where you can leave your car.

(1)What will you have to show when you board a ship in the first place?

A. A credit card.

B. A post card.

C. An ID card.

D. Luggage.

(2)What can you take when you are on a cruise?

A. As much alcohol as you can.

B. More luggage than on a plane.

C. Less luggage than on a plane.

D. As many guns and knives as you can.

(3)Where does the text probably come from?

A. A storybook.

B. A guidebook.

C. A book review.

D. A science report.

【答案】(1)C

(2)B

(3)B

根据第一段中的“If you have never been on a cruise (乘船游览), it can seem like its own world—with its own rules and secret language.”

Covered in Spanish moss, the trails are lined with trees and since it's still a rural area, the stars line up for a grand show at night and create the perfect evening starlit picnic opportunity.

Grant Park, Chicago

If you are looking for delicious food in Chicago, go for a taste of a 20-day, lake-front, foodie festival that happens in October each year. Grab a spot near the fountain to enjoy your picnic, appreciate the city scenery and lake views and relax with family and friends. If you are there on July 4th, be sure to plan the day to include the fireworks display at the Navy Pier.

Cranberry Islands, Maine

Here, you'll enjoy natural picnics with island views. The islands are a delightful group of islands about 20 minutes offshore from Acadia National Park. You can visit the islands by private boat or ferry service. Bring a picnic basket along for the ride as it's a romantic picnic area to take your special someone or go for a family outing to visit the islands.

A study based on data gathered by a NASA sensor has revealed China and India, the world's two most populous countries, are primarily responsible for making the Earth greener over the past two decades.

The study, published on Feb 11 in the journal Natural Sustainability, has found that since 2000 the Earth's green leaf area has increased by over 5 million square kilometers. That's an area equivalent to the total of the Amazon rainforests. "China and India account for one-third of the greening, considering the general idea of land degradation (退化) in populous countries from overexploitation," said Chen Chi from Boston University, lead author of the study.

The effect mainly comes from ambitious tree-planting programs in China and intensive agriculture in both countries, NASA said in a statement. China is the source of a quarter of the planet's increase in forest area, despite having only 6.6 percent of the world's vegetated (固定植被的)area, according to the study. Forest conservation and expansion programs account for 42

percent of the increase, and another 32 percent come from intensive agriculture of food crops, NASA said. While raising their green leaf areas, China and India have also greatly increased their food production through" multiple cropping" practices, where a field is replanted and crops are harvested several time each year. "Production of grains, vegetable, fruits and more have increased by about 35 to 40 percent since 2000 to feed their large population," NASA said.

Over the past decades, China has made great efforts to green the land. In 1978, the central government launched a national-level forestation project-the Three North Shelterbelt Forest Program. By the end of 2017, the forest coverage rate among the regions in the project reached 13.57 percent, compared to 5.05 percent 40 years ago. In a greening project, Kubuqi Desert, seventh largest in the country, has seen one-third of its area covered by vegetation during the past three decades thanks to forestation efforts.

(1)What have China and India contributed to according to NASA?

A. Land greening.

B. Land degradation.

C. Population explosion.

D. Forest conservation.

(2)What can we learn about "multiple cropping "practices?

A. They turn out to be ineffective.

B. They improve the food output.

C. They raise the vegetated area.

D. They allow planning once annually.

(3)What was the forest coverage rate in 1977?

A. 5.05%.

B. 6.6%.

C. 13.57%.

D. 32%.

(4)How is the passage mainly developed?

A. By space.

B. By listing facts.

C. By comparison.

D. By making definition.

Mid-afternoon on a particularly busy Tuesday, I took leave of my desk at work and walked into a local Starbucks, only to find a space where neither my clients (客户) nor my children would ask me to do something.

Inside, I ran into Kate, a co-worker of mine. The topic of parenthood came up. I complained about how packed my schedule was. From the minute I woke up to the minute I fell asleep, I was constantly in demand and always had someone knocking at the door. But a bit of sadness seemed

to come over Kate's face.

"Well, my daughter's in San Francisco and she doesn't seem to need me at all these days." Kate said. It was in that moment that I realized although I might often feel in high demand, there will come a day when I'll actually miss that same stress I now complain about.

And as our conversation continued, it turned to our children's younger years, with Kate smiling proudly, thinking of the little boy and girl she raised who are now a man and a woman. But I noticed her smile was marked with regret. She explained that she often wondered about what she could have done differently when her children were in their earlier years.

This got me thinking Is regret an unfortunate footnote (注脚) to parenthood? With that in mind, I asked six older parents one question: What is your biggest regret from your early days as a parent?

It turned out that all of them thought they could have done it better. But, each of them also has a strong, healthy relationship with their kids. Whatever regrets their parents might have had about their upbringing, one thing is clear—it didn't affect them in a meaningful way.

The bottom line is, we all feel like we could be doing this parenting thing better, And quite clearly, years later, we're still going to look back and wish we tried things differently. But the past can't be changed, and neither should it.

(1)What can be inferred from the first three paragraphs?

A. Kate had the same problem as the author's.

B. The two people had arranged to meet in the coffee shop.

C. Kate went to the coffee shop so no one could find her there.

D. The author went to the coffee shop to escape from the pressures around him.

(2)Why did Kate feel sad and regretful?

A. Because she and her daughter had a fight.

B. Because she hadn't paid enough attention to her kids.

C. Because she was disappointed with her kids' performance.

D. Because she thought that she could have done better in raising her kids.

(3)What did the author find when he spoke to six older parents?

A. Some of the parents have a bad relationship with their kids.

B. He was moved by the love of these parents for their children.

C. These parents improved their behavior after their kids grew up.

D. None of the parents were completely satisfied with the way they raised their kids.

(4)What should parents do according to the last paragraph?

A. Give more love to their kids.

B. Let your children grow up with freedom.

C. Cherish the present time and do one's best to be a parent.

D. Never stop learning how to be a good parent from others.

【答案】(1)D

(2)D

(3)D

But I noticed her smile was marked with regret. She explained that she often wondered about what she could have done differently when her children were in their earlier years.";第五段中的"What is your biggest regret from your early days as a parent?” 以及第六段中的“It turned out that all of them thought they could have done it better."

根据第五段中的“With that in mind, I asked six older parents one question: What is your biggest regret from your early days as a parent?"以及第六段"It turned out that all of them thought they could have done it better."
