We might wonder at the progress made in every field of study，but the methods of testing a person's knowledge and ability remain as primitive(原始的)as ever they were. Perhaps the most amazing thing to come out of kinesics，the study of body movement,was suggested by Professor Ray Birdwhistell．He believes that physical appearance is often culturally programmed．In other words，we learn our looks—we are not born with them．A baby has generally unformed facial(脸部的)features．A baby，according to Birdwhistell，learns where to set eyebrows by looking at those around—family and friends.
