雅思口语Part1范文：Pen or pencil
When was the last time that you bought a pen or pencil?
Model answer：
Oh, let me think… Actually, I remember quite clearly. It was towards the end
of last summer. I wanted to do some sketching, you know, some drawing. It was a
really nice summer and I had been watching this animation where a young girl
sits out in the countryside and draws pictures of nature – landscape drawing,
really. So I decided I would do something similar. I went to the art shops near
to the art museum and bought a set of pencils. A really nice set, actually, and
some special paper.
Do you usually use a pen or pencil?
Model answer：
I usually use a pen, because I am a student and most of the time I make notes
in lectures with a pen and paper. Of course, at home I do all my assignments on
a computer, so most of the time I only use a pen for making notes. I still enjoy
making notes with a pen and paper and I think it’s an important part of the
brainstorm process too. I recommend to anyone studying that before they actually
start writing an essay, it’s a good idea to get a pen and a sheet of paper and
make a mind map to generate and categorise ideas.
Which one do you use more often? Pen or pencil?
Model answer：
I definitely use a pen more often. You don’t have to sharpen a pen, and it’s
usually the most effective way to make notes. However, when I want to do some
drawing, I get out my pencil set and use pencils and proper art paper. But these
days I don’t really do much drawing. So, yeah, I use a pen way more often than I
used a pencil.
What do you think is someone gives you a pen or a pencil as a gift?
Model answer：
I think a pen or a pencil can be a nice gift. A pen is a more elegant gift
though. Sometimes people give people pens, fountain pens especially, in really
nice presentation boxes. A stylish pen can make a great gift for someone who
wears nice suits and attends business meetings or fancy events – you know, it’s
always useful to have a pen, and if a man is wearing an expensive suit, it’s
appropriate to pull out a fine pen and not some cheap pen from 7/11 or so! Also,
some people like expensive famous brands, and there are brands, like Mont Blanc,
that make really beautiful pens in gold and silver and with delicate inlaid
designs. So, pens definitely can make good gifts. I’d feel very happy if someone
gave me a pen as a gift.
