Although the range and quality of today’s education is improving sharply, the situation of student’s health doesn’t seem to be very satisfying. With a survey conducted from 2002 to 2005, we could have a clear picture about what healthy problems students are suffering from.
It’s obviously that nearsighted, overweight, lack of sleep and mentally unhealthy are the major concerns. The number of nearsighted students raised by 14.3%, while the number of mentally unhealthy students raised by 14.5%. What shocked us most is that the number of students being overweight increased from 36% to 52.4%. Even more terrifyingly, 90.1% of students have a lack of sleep, which means nearly all students are under the pressure of education.
These figures should give an alarm to society. Today’s schools should not be a grey factory which only produces machines of acknowledge, and steps should be taken immediately to improve a relaxing and optimistic phenomenon for students. After all, making people a healthy person, both physically and mentally, is the original aim of education.
