七选五(四)英国人的周日大餐

After a long week, Sunday is the perfect day to sit down with families, relax and enjoy a special dinner: Sunday roast(周日大餐).

British people have eaten Sunday roasts for centuries(世纪). In the old days, people had to go to church(教堂) on Sundays. After that, people would be hungry.

So what is this tasty dish ? Every Sunday dinner has roast meat, usually chicken or beef, roast potatoes, vegetables, and Yorkshire pudding(约克夏布丁).

What if you don’t have time to make the traditional dinner? Not to worry. In British, there are special restaurants, called carveries. The name carvery comes from the act of cutting the meat into slices before putting them on a plate.

Parents and children will sit down and tell each other about their week at work or school.

With many traditional fading(逐渐消失), traditional Sunday dinners are as strong as ever. And I have a feeling that this traditional dinner will be on British tables.

What kids really need is free time to engage all their senses and use their imaginations. You can learn too. What counts is simply to get out there, show that you value the outdoors, and be ready to have fun. 39 In fact, it is not necessary for you to know anything at all about science or nature. People in the United States love their dogs and treat them well. 1 However, dogs without owners to care for them lead a different kind of life. The expression, to lead a dog’s life, describes a person who has an unhappy existence. Some people say we live in a dog-eat-dog world. 2 They say that to be successful, a person has to work like a dog. This means they have to work very, very hard.
