They are special in the sense that they conform to the English linguistic norms and meanwhile closely reflect China’s economic principles and policies. The present paper focuses on techniques of translating such economic terms from Chinese into English. Key Words China English economic terms translation techniques expression features 根据语用学原理,任何经济词汇都具有一定的社会和历史内涵。我国自改革开放以来,出现了大量具有中国特色的经济词汇,它们反映了我国各不同阶段的经济形势、经济方针政策以及相关的经济文化内涵,其英译体现了中国英语的鲜明特色。虽然其中也不乏一些“正宗”的产生于西方国家的经济学术语,但由于在中国的具体运用而使其含义有所改变,更适合中国的国情,反映了中国的经济特点。杜瑞清教授在述评“中国英语”时深刻地指出“由于缺乏对中国特色词的理论研究和应有的指导性规范,中国英语目前在使用上仍处于相当混乱的状态”。中国英语的中国特点的现实性主要是通过其语音、词汇、语法、语篇层面等反映出来。本文着重讨论词汇层面上的中国经济词汇。 1 中国经济词汇的翻译方法对具有中国特色的经济词汇的翻译,主要采用直译、意译、直译加注释三种方法。111 直译法直译法指在不违背英语经济文化传统的前提下,在英译文中保留汉语经济词汇和术语的指称意义,如比喻、形象、民族特色等,目标是做到形式与内容的统一,即“形”“神”兼备。 “铁饭碗”直译成iron rice bowl ,既表达了原词汇的内容,又保存了原词汇的比喻。这是对由国家统一包下来,统一分配的劳动就业制度的形象化表述,真实反映了中国一个时期内劳动管理体制中的主要弊病。 “红包”直译成red packet ,指用红纸包着的钱。这是指1979 年后,在一些企业单位给领导和职工发放奖金与额外报酬的一种形式,反映了中国经济发展中一种特有的经济现象。
