第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)We’ve all been there: You’re at a dull work meeting or presentation, and your mind keeps wandering to what to eat for lunch, your weekend plans, or what’s going on with the new season of Stranger Things.

Don’t feel so bad about all your daydreaming. Mind-wandering may be a sign of intelligence and

creativity, according to a new study in the journal Neuropsychologia. And as long as your performance at work doesn’t suffer when your mind drifts, daydreaming may not be such a bad thing after all, the study authors say.

Researchers at Georgia Institute of Technology wanted to study what happens to people’s brain patterns when they’re told to lie still and do nothing—a prime opportunity for mind-wandering. So they asked 112 study participants to do just that: lie in an MRI machine while staring at a fixed point for five minutes.

The research team used those readings to identify which parts of the brain worked together during this type of awake but resting state, and they also compared the readings to tests the participants took to measure their creative and intellectual abilities. In addition, the participants filled out a questionnaire about how much their mind wandered in daily life.

The researchers made several interesting connections. People who reported more frequent daydreaming during the day scored higher on creative and intellectual tests. Their MRIs also showed they had more efficient brain systems-meaning different regions of the brain were more in pace with each other—compared to people who reported less frequent mind-wandering.

The finding that mind-wandering is associated with intelligence was somewhat surprising, says lead au thor Christine Godwin, a psychology PhD candidate. That’s because previous research has linked

mind-wandering to poorer performance on memory and reading-comprehension tests, lower SAT scores, negative mood, and mental health disorders.

1、What’s the author’s attitude towards daydreaming?

A.Unconcerned.

B.Approving.

C.Cautious.

D.Doubtful.

2、What can the participants do during the experiment?

A.Tell lies.

B.Do some reading.

C.Lie and stare.

D.Answer some questions.

3、What’s the finding of the experiment?

A.Daydreaming may result in good memory.

B.The finding is contradictory to the previous research.

C.Daydreaming is somewhat associated with mental health.

D.The more you are mind-wandering, the less intelligent you are.

4、What’s the best title for the passage?

A.Daydreaming is Not So Bad

B.Why People are Always Daydreaming?

C.Daydreaming is Harmful to The Brain

D.An Experiment Report on Daydreaming

22.(8分)The word "OK" is the most frequently spoken all-purpose expression on the planet—and it's turning 176 years old on March 23,2015.The term was born during a 19th-century abbreviation(缩写)craze and went on to international fame with its own hand gesture.

Last year,Henry Nass,a 64-year-old retired English teacher,a New Yorker had spent the last few weeks handing out cards championing "Global OK Day" in advance of the coming anniversary.

"No matter where people are from they use the word 'OK,'but they don't know where it comes from,"says Nass. "The problem is because it's just, you know,OK."

The word is OK,perhaps, but its history is definitely better than https://www.360docs.net/doc/e612326868.html,te etymologist Allen Walker Read traced the two-letter word to 1839,when editors at the Boston Morning Post signed off on articles as “all correct” with a simple word "OK".

The word made it into print on March 23 of that year, during an article against a rival editor in Providence who had stated wrongly that a band of Bostonians heading to New York would pass through the Rhode Island capital.

"We said not a word about our team passing 'through the city' of Providence,"the Morning Post reported."O.K.—all correct."

The humor of the Providence-Boston joke has been lost to history—but the word OK took off from there, soon connoting(隐含)agreement, acceptance, averageness, quality or likability.

By 1840,it served as a slogan for President Martin Van Buren's unsuccessful reelection campaign."Old Kinderhook is OK,"posters stated,a reference to the eighth president's birthplace and his supporters’ belief in his satisfactory performance.

1、Why did Henry Nass hand out cards?

A.To let people understand the history of the word "OK".

B.To call on people to use the word "OK" properly.

C.To appeal to people to celebrate OK Day.

D.To attract people's attention.

2、What does the author want to convey in Paragraph 4?

A.The history of the word "OK" is known to average people.

B.The history of the word "OK" is unfamiliar to people.

C.People frequently use the word "OK" in history.

D.People are fond of the word "OK" in history.

3、What does the underlined phrase "took off 'in Paragraph 7 probably mean?

A.Got off B.Set up

C.Moved off D.Become popular

4、We can learn from the text that Kinderhook is of the eighth American president.

A.the name B.the birthplace

C.the policy D.the belief

23.(8分)Many people wrongly think that cities don’t have farms and fruits and vegetables are only grown in the country. Believe it or not, there are more urban farms popping up in cities all over the world.

Alexandra Sullivan, a food systems researcher in New York, studies urban agriculture. Urban agriculture is another name for farming and gardening in a city environment. Ms. Sullivan studies everything from tiny gardens in empty lots between buildings to bigger fields that have been planted and grown. According to Ms. Sullivan, “Urban agriculture has existed since cities have, across the world.”

The number of humans living in urban areas, or cities, is increasing. The amount of people who wanted to gar den in urban areas is also rising. Ms. Sullivan says, “In small gardens, on rooftops and indoors, city residents grow fruits, vegetables, grains, and herbs, and raise animals to produce milk, eggs, honey, and meat. City residents use these foods as supplem ents to food produced by rural agriculture.” Even though some people who live in urban areas grow crops, urban residents still need to rely on food grown in rural areas. This is because a city doesn’t have enough space to grow enough food for everyone living in it.

In New York City, urban farmers have come up with many different ways to grow their own produce, even though there isn’t a lot of room. For example, Brooklyn Grange is a farming operation that has two rooftop vegetable farms in New York City. All together, the farms are made up of 2.5 acres of rooftop space. This makes Brooklyn Grange one of the largest rooftop farming operations in the world.

Brooklyn Grange grows all kinds of things. The farming company sells its vegetables to local residents and restaurants. And because the farms are on rooftops, they are specially adapted to their urban location. They use available space that is not needed for anything else. As more urban farmers find ways to grow food in cities, urban residents will be better able to get fresher materials for their meals.

1、Which of the following is Ms. Sullivan’s opinion about urban agriculture?

A.Urban agriculture has developed recently.

B.Urban agriculture takes too much city space.

C.Urban agriculture has a history as long as cities.

D.Urban agriculture can take the place of rural agriculture.

2、For traditional agriculture, urban agriculture is a(n) ________.

A.model B.addition

C.competitor D.replacement

3、What can we learn about Brooklyn Grange in New York City from the text?

A.It has large farming areas.

B.It can only grow single products.

C.It produces enough food for citizens.

D.It makes use of rooftop space to grow vegetables.

4、What is the author’s opinion on the urban farms?

A.Critical. B.Positive.

C.Worried. D.Confused.

24.(8分)Many Americans think of driverless cars as a futuristic technology that will revolutionize travel in cities and along state highways. But recent experiments are proving that autonomous vehicles also have the potential to improve the quality of life for millions of Americans underserved by traditional ways of transportation, such as the elderly and disabled, so long as lawmakers make smart policies that pave the way for innovation.

A retirement community in San Jose, Calif. , which has been transformed by a small fleet(车队)of driverless taxis, shows the potential of self-driving cars to transform people’s lives. Built by a tech start-up called Voyage, the modified(被改进的) Ford Fusions are currently limited to a two-mile road, but residents are already having the benefits of these autonomous vehicles, which allow them to participate in social activities they would otherwise be unable to enjoy simply because they could not get to them.

When the trial run finally expands to 15 miles of road, these residents—whose average age is 76—will also have a convenient and reliable new way to appointments. As these cars continue to serve residents there, it is easy to understand why California is moving to simplify regulations for the industry.

In Michigan, forward-thinking policies have the potential to unlock other hidden benefits of autonomous vehicles, especially for those with physical disabilities. The Michigan Disability Rights Coalition has strongly advocated for the development of this technology, saying that it could give people with disabilities greater opportunities in the workforce and enable them to lead more fulfilling(满意的), independent lives.

Many recognize that autonomous vehicles will be the future of transportation, but it is too often overlooked that this future cannot arrive fast enough for millions of Americans who are forced to depend

on others for day-to-day travel. The policymakers should follow the lead of places like California and Michigan, and pass rules and regulations to unlock these hidden benefits of driverless cars.

1、What’s the attitude of most American people to the future of autonomous vehicles?

A.uncertain B.doubtful

C.indifferent D.optimistic

2、What is the modified Ford Fusion?

A.The collection of social activities. B.The name of a retirement community.

C.A kind of autonomous vehicle. D.A two-mile road for self-driving cars.

3、Examples are given in the third and fourth paragraphs to prove

A.what are preventing the development of the technology

B.why driverless cars are restricted in many states in America

C.how driverless technology benefits the aged and disabled

D.when driverless cars can enter people’s life eventually

4、What does the author attempt to inform us in the last paragraph?

A.The concept of autonomous vehicles has been widely recognized.

B.The weak groups are often overlooked despite technology advances.

C.The benefits of driverless cars have been fully unlocked.

D.Regulations should go hand in hand with driverless technology.

(4)in that 35 1 which 33 1 whichever 30 1 where 28 1 交际用语如何应答21 1 其中22、27、35的错误率较高。
