Becoming a teacher is one of the best ways to make a difference in the life of a child and even older students. Here are some great scholarships and grant(奖学金、助学金) opportunities to get the ball rolling on your dreams of becoming a teacher.

Straightforward Teacher Program

This is one of the most popular and unique scholarships available for students working towards becoming teachers. The foundation offers their scholarships every three months as opposed to each year. During each payment, four students receive a $500 scholarship.

Prezell Robinson Scholarship Program

While this scholarship is available only to students in the state of North Carolina, it is so incredibly helpful that many students choose to study in the state for the only purpose of receiving it. It is offered to college students who come from low-income high schools or families that are interested in pursuing a long term career in education at any level.

New York State Scholarship Program

Officials in the state of New York founded this program to award students who want to give back to their community through their ability to teach. The catch for this scholarship is that the students must be pursuing a teaching career in mathematics or science at the secondary level.

Also, because the program was designed to improve the education system in New York, the candidates must sign a service contract agreeing to work full time within the state for at least five years after graduation.

Coca-Cola Scholarships

You may have many opportunities for grants and scholarships through The Coca Cola Foundation. There is the Coca Cola Teaching Foundation that will provide free money for students pursuing an education in the teaching field. This is the most obvious for teachers, but do not be afraid to check out their other offers.

Funds For Teachers

Not all scholarships or grants are for students entering or already in college. The Funds for Teachers scholarships are for graduates who are already working in the field, but want to improve their possibilities, skills and education in an effort to increase their ability to teach the students that cross their path more effectively. Teachers in PreK through 12th grade are applicable(适用) no matter where they teach or what subject they specialize in.

If you happen to be near Ocean Avenue Elementary in Portland, Maine, you might see Paige Marchand walking to school. According to Portland TV station WCSH, Paige is part of a “walking school bus”---a group of kids who walk to school together every day. A parent comes along to act as a driver of sorts, to make sure the kids

walk safely. But the kids look out for each other, too.

“Sometimes, they’ll pick one person to go ahead of everybody and then just stop at each crossing, waiting for everyday to catch up. Everyone is excited,” Paige told WCSH reporter Chris Rose.

This Wednesday morning was October 5th,

2011.That morning, more than 3, 700 schools across the

country participated in International Walk to School Day.

The goal is to get more kids walking every day---like

“The only walking a lot of students do is to walk

from the classroom to the door of their parents’ ear,” said

Paul Holman, a physical education teacher at Spence

Elementary in La Crosse, Wisconsin. “It’s great exercise.

And it’ll help you get fit instead of fat. We let the kids know that walking is a start.”

Forty years ago, approximately half of all kids walked to school, according to people who keep track of such statistics. Today, that number is reportedly down to around 13 percent. International Walk to School Day is talking to reverse that trend.

When it started 14 years ago in Chicago, Hlinois, it was known as “National Walk Our Children to School Day.” But within a few years, it went international, and today millions of kids in all 50 states and a number of other countries participate.

Last week, Spence students took pat in a regional “Walk to School Challenge” to celebrate the day. kids who have to take buses to school were able to participate. They did their walking inside the school’s gym.

Do you want to live with a strong sense of peacefulness, happiness, goodness, and self-respect? The collection of happiness actions broadly categorized as “honor” help you create this life of good feelings.

Here’s an example to show how honorable actions create happiness.

Say a store clerk fails to charge us for an item. If we keep silent and profit from the clerk’s mistake, we would drive home with a sense of excitement. Later we might tell our family or friends about our good fortune. On the other hand, if we tell the clerk about he uncharged item, the clerk would be grateful and thank us for our honesty. We would leave the store with a quiet sense of honor that we might never share with another soul.

Then what is it to do with our sense of happiness?

In the first case, where we don’t tell the clerk, a couple of things would happen. Deep down inside we would know ourselves as a type of thief. In the process, we would lose some peace of mind and self-respect. We would also demonstrate that we cannot be trusted, since we advertise our dishonor by telling our family and friends. We damage our own reputations by telling others. In contrast, bringing the error to the clerk’s attention causes different things happen. Immediately the clerk knows us to be honorable. Upon leaving the store, we feel honorable and our self-respect is increased. Whenever we take honorable action we gain the deep internal rewards of goodness and a sense of nobility.

There is a beautiful positive cycle that is created by living a life of honorable actions. Honorable thoughts lead to honorable actions. Honorable actions lead us to a happier existence. And it’s easy to think and act honorable again when we’re happy. While the positive cycle can be difficult to start, once it’s started, it’s easy to continue. Keeping on doing good deeds brings us peace of mind, which is important for our happiness.

46.According to the passage, the positive action in the example contributes to our _______.

A.self-respect B.financial rewards

C.advertising ability D.friendly relationship

47.The author thinks that keeping silent about the uncharged item is equal to _______.

A.lying B.stealing C.cheating D.advertising

48.The phrase “bringing he error to the clerk’s attention” in Paragraph 5 means _______.

A.telling the truth to the clerk B.offering advice to the clerk

C.asking the clerk to be attentive D.reminding the clerk of the prices

49.How will we feel if we let the clerk know her mistake? _______

A.We’ll be very excited

B.We’ll feel unfortunate

C.We’ll have a sense of honor

D.We’ll feel sorry for the clerk

50. Which of the following can be the best title of this passage? _______

A.How We Can Live Truthfully

B.The Importance of Peacefulness

C.Ways of Gaining Self-respect

D.Happiness through Honorable Actions

College graduation brings both the satisfaction of academic achievement and the expectation of a well-paying job. But for 6000 graduates at San Jose State this year, there’s uncertainty as they enter one of the worst job markets in decades. Ryan Stewart has a freshly-minted(新兴的) degree in religious studies, but no job prospects.

“You look at everybody’s parents and neighbors, and they’re getting laid off and don’t have jobs,” said Stewart. “Then you look at the young people just coming into the workforce… it’s just scary.”

When the class of 2003 entered college, the future never looked brighter. But in the four years they’ve been here, the world outside has changed dramatically

“Those were the exciting times, lots of dot-com opportunities, exploding offers, students getting top dollar with lots of benefits,” said Cheryl Allmen-Vinnidge of the San Jose State Career Center. “Times have changed. It’s a new market.”

Cheryl Allmen-Vinnidge ought to know. She runs the San Jose State Career Center, sort of a crossroad between college and the real world. Allmen-Vinnidge says students who do find jobs after college have done their homework.

“The typical graduate who does have a job offer started working on it two years ago. They’ve postured(定位) themselves well during the summer. They’ve had several internships(实习),” she said And they’ve majored in one of the few fields that are still hot, like chemical engineering, accounting, or nursing, where average starting salaries have actually increased over last year. Other popular fields (like information systems management, computer science, and political science) have seen big declines in starting salaries.

Ryan Stewart (he had hoped to become a teacher) may just end up going back to school. “I’d like to teach college some day and that requires more schooling, which would be great in a bad economy,” he said.

To some students, a degree may not be a ticket to instant wealth. For now, they can only hope its value will increase over time.

A.a company making dots B.jobs related to high-technology

C.teaching on the Internet D.a well-known website

52.What does Chery1 Allmen-Vinnidge mean when she says students have “done their homework”? _______ A.They have spent time preparing themselves to find a job

B.They have gone to summer schools for further studies

C.They are good students who have finished their homework on time

D.They have found full-time jobs as their future career before graduation

53.The purpose of a college career center is probably to _______.

A.help students to finish their homework

B.find jobs for students while they are in school

C.me pare students to find jobs after they graduate

D.help high school students get accepted to college

54.Ryan Stewart is probably going to _______

A.get teaching job B.become a religious leader

C.change his major D.go back to school

55.What does the underlined sentence “To some students, a degree may not be a ticket to instant wealth” in the last paragraph mean? _______

A.Having a college degree does not provide travel discounts

B.A college degree doesn’t promise a person a high-paying job

C.Most students with degrees will not be able to find good jobs

D.The best way to become wealthy isn’t to get a college degree.

第三部分写作

第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题.

I had always been unhappy with my weight before I managed to lose weight. As a kid, I was bigger than everyone else around me and gained more weight after college.

One day, when I looked at myself in the mirror, I really disliked how I looked. I knew I had to make a change. Besides, my health was rapidly declining. I thought I should try something to lose weight.

I changed something I ate and made the gym my top priority. However, it was not easy. I had tried medication(药物治疗) before I tried to lose weight in the correct way. Coming off my medication was hard. My body was fighting itself and I had many weight-loss plateaus(停滞期). I also struggled at the gym sometimes and had a hard time pushing myself through workouts.

Luckily, my trainer kept me motivated. He was driving this bus to success for me. he was my constant supporter and biggest fan. Thanks to him I saw results within two months after starting my journey. 20 months later, I lost 160 pounds.

Now I can walk more than 50 feet without having to sit down. I can do laundry and clean my house. I can go to the grocery store without having to drive myself in the “fat cart”. I can do anything I want to without stressing about it. I am finally free!

If you also want to lose weight, my advice is to take small steps every day to reach your goal. When I started, 160 pounds seemed so overwhelming to me, but I took small steps and made changes every day to get where I am now. It is not about a quick fix. You can’t climb Mount Everest in one day. You have to do it one step at a time!

56.Why did the author want to try something to lose weight? (No more than 10 words)

57.How did the author try to lose weight at last? (No more than 10 words)
