Wherever one lives-in the city or in the country, there are some good reasons for owning a car. First, cars have bee an important part of life in many countries. The car provides the most convenient form of transportation. With a car, a person can get around freely, without spending a lot of time. Second, a car is a fortable way to travel, especially in the winter time. A driver stays warm and dry even in the cold, rainy weather. Finally, a

driver is usually safe in his car when he is out at night.

There are, on the other hand, many good reasons against owning a car. For one thing, it can be very expensive to purchase and run a car. The gas shortage has caused a big problem for drivers, and the price of fuel continues to go up each year. In addition, it costs a great deal to maintain, repair and insure a car. For another, owning a car can aim cause worry and stress. It is exhausting to drive a car in heavy traffic. It

often happens that a driver can be held up on his way because of a traffic jam. What is worse, cars are responsible for most of the smog in cities, which pollutes the environment seriously.

In spite of all the above-mentioned, I still favor owning a car. The reason is that the car gives a person the freedom to schedule his own time. Though we are confronted with a problem of energy crisis, I am sure that the real solution will have to be a new kind of car, one that uses cheap, efficient fuel and does not contaminate the air.

Don\'t Hesitate to Say No

As a general rule, people like to help others, but there are occasions when you should say no to requests for favors. For instance, it is better

to refuse when a child pesters you for sweet food and drinks or for too many toys. Another example is when a relative asks you to use yours

influence to get him or her a bank loan or work promotion.

However, we cannot ignore the fact that many people are reluctant to

say no. They feel that if they turn down a request from a relative or friend, they will cause ill-feeling within the family or bee unpopular with their acquaintances. A notable case in point is when the boss asks them to do something which they feel is unreasonable.

It is important to keep in mind that not saying no when you should say no can sometimes have harmful consequences. If children are giver

everything they ask for, not only may their health be damaged, but they may grow up selfish and spoilt. Again, in the long run it is kinder to re fuse

to lend money to a person who has a gambling or alcoholism problem.

My View on Fake modities

Like most people, I weled the advent of the market economy. Nevertheless, it must be admitted that, along with the benefits of the market economy, have e problems. In my opinion, the biggest problem is the large number of fake and shoddy goods, which are found all over the country and do great harm to society.

Fake and shoddy goods are harmful on two levels. Some people think that the quickest way to make profits is by selling poor-quality modities, and this undermines the nation\'s economy; at the same time, some fake and shoddy goods are bad for people\'s health. This makes consumers distrust

the sellers, and the free market in general.

In view of the seriousness of this problem, it is essential that laws and regulations be worked out to ban the manufacture and circulation of

fake and shoddy goods. At the same time, consumers should be educated to identify sub-standard modities. With proper laws and an alert public, it

will only be a matter of time before fake and shoddy goods bee things of

the past.

Haste Makes Waste

By "Haste makes waste" is meant that one should do everything step by step. Even simple operations can easily be spoiled if we rush to plete them,

neglecting important stages in the process. One should make full preparations before beginning any task.

we can never hope to speak in an understandable way. Similarly, if we do

not learn to spell properly and to acquire a basic grasp of grammar, we

How I Finance My College Education

In recent years tuition and fees for high education keep increasing rapidly. How to finance your college education has bee a matter of concern for many. There are many ways to support your college education financially. First, your parents may be able to provide all the money you need. Second, you can do a part-time job to get enough money. Third, bank loans

especially set up for college students are also available.

As far as I\'m concerned, bank loan is my favorite choice. For one thing, my parents do not have enough money to afford me. For another, you

will find yourself too tired to study after doing a part-time job. In addition, I\'m sure that I will have a good chance of getting a nice job after graduation, when I\'ll be able to repay the loan. Therefore, I prefer the bank loan.

Car Accidents Declining in Walton City

According to the graph, the rise and fall of the rate of car accidents

in Walton City varies with the seasons. From January to March last year it increased by 68%, from March to June it dropped by about half the previous rate; and from June to August there was a steep rise of 66.6%. After that, however, there was a steady decrease, and this makes us optimistic that car accidents are declining in Walton City.

There are three reasons for this improvement. First, new traffic regulations have made drivers more careful, second, more people are using

bicycles for transportation, and third, in the later part of the year good weather make the roads safer to drive on.

This year, major roads have been repaired and the number of public buses has been increased. Moreover, a traffic safety campaign has made all the local people more aware of the dangers of unsafe driving. So, I am confident that there will be even fewer car accidents in Walton in the future.

Film Is Giving Way to TV

The latest statistics show that the number of people attending cinemas is getting steadily smaller. At the same time, the number of television viewers is growing at almost the same rate.

Experts say that these two trends are connected in three ways. First, over the past few decades television sets have appeared in almost every home. Second, films very quickly bee available on video, and can be shown on the TV screen. Third, it is being more expensive to make films, and so the prices of cinema seats are rising.

However, this does not mean the death of the movie industry. There will always be people who prefer to go out to see a film. This is because no matter how good a TV film or video is, it can never be as a film shown on the "big screen."

Health Gains in Developing Countries

The developing countries have made great strides in the health conditions of their populations. The above graphs show that between 1960 and 1990 life expectancy in these countries increased from about 40 to almost 60. At the same time infant mortality declined from roughly 200 deaths for every 1,000 births to around 100.

There are two main reasons for this improvement. The first is that the economics of those countries have developed rapidly in recent decades. And consequently (as a result), there is more money available for health care. The second is that the governments of developing countries are paying more attention to education in hygiene.

If this trend continues, developing countries will soon approach the developed countries in terms of health care. People will live longer and healthier lives. The result of this will be happier and more productive populations.
