Villagers didn’t know what to do and the government ignored their difficult situa tion, but one “crazy” teenager took matters into his own hands.

Shyam Lal was only 15 when he took it upon himself to solve his village’s water problem. Lal shared his idea with the rest of Saja Pahad, but instead of volunteering to help, they just laughed at his crazy plan and called him a lunatic (疯子). But the young man didn’t let the people’s reaction get him down. Instead, he grabbed a spade (铁锹) and started digging the pond himself. He kept on digging for the next 27 years.

It may be made possible for computers and robots to "read" human personalities by reading human eye movements.

The eyes are really the windows to the soul. That is the result of a new study on the connection between eye movements and personality, conducted by neuroscience researchers based at the University of South Australia and Published in the scientific Journal Frontiers in Neuroscience. And if that is true, computers and robots powered by sophisticated algorithms (算法) may soon have the ability to peer into your soul.

"Eye movements during an everyday task predict aspects of our personality," wrote the researchers, led by Tobias Loetscher, whose team followed 42 study subjects around the university campus recording their eye movements, then determined their personality traits (特点) with "well-established questionnaires" for determining personality type, and unfolded some kind of connections between eye movements and personality, according to a summary of the study published by the site Science Daily.

The researchers expected that with the data fed into their algorithms computers running the algorithms were able to record human eye movements and immediately determine a person's major personality traits, such as "neuroticism, extraversion (外向),agreeableness, conscientiousness, as well as perceptual curiosity", the scientists wrote.

"The new finding might help improve the way human beings interact with their computers and other high-tech devices, even robots, allowing for more natural and realistic social interactions with machines," Loetscher said.

"People are always looking for improved, personalized services. Today's robots and computers are not socially aware so they cannot adapt to non-verbal information," Loetscher said in a statement quoted by Indian Express. "This research provides opportunities to develop robots and computers that can become more natural, and better at interpreting human social signals."

The study revealed previously undiscovered relations between specific personality characteristics and specific eye movement tendencies, according to a summary in Britain's Daily Mail newspaper.

32.What is the finding of the new study?

A.Robots can understand human personality.

B.Eye movements connect with personality. C.Computers record human eye movements.

D.Personality determines human eye movements.

33.What does Paragraph 3 mainly introduce?

A.The research subjects.

B.The research process.

C.The research outcomes.

D.The research application.

34.What can be inferred from what Loetscher said?

A.Robots will be smarter than humans.

B.Machines may become more social.

C.The research is of little significance.

D.Human-machine interaction will explode.

35.What does the text mainly tell us?

A.The finding of a new study.

B.Eyes as windows to the soul.

C.The human-machine interaction.

D.The development of high-tech devices.

A Famous centenarians (百岁老人) still active in arts, science are in no mood to retire. "Those who stand still, die," is one of Oliveira's favorite phrases. He knows from experience what it means, as the Portuguese film director has reached the age of 102 and is still active in his profession. Every year, Oliveira shoots a film and is currently working on his next project. "You have to work, work, work in order to forget that death is not far away," he said. When asked about his age, Oliveira said with some humility: "It's down to mother nature. It gave to me what it took from others." Being both mentally and physically fit in old age is partly a matter of luck, but it also has something to do with character. Not every white-haired person is wise and social skills, openness and the ability to train the brain are essential for senior citizens. Along with the architect Oscar Niemeyer (103), Nobel laureate Montalcini (101) and director Kurt Maetzig (100), Oliveira is one of those people of whom it would be very wrong to think as members of a listless elderly generation. Another master in his profession is the architect Oscar Niemeyer. The 103-year-old Brazilian is best known for his futuristic-looking(未来派的)buildings in Brasilia, but he also speaks out on behalf of the poor. "The role of the architect is to struggle for a better world where we can develop a form of architecture that serves everyone and not just a privileged few," said Niemeyer recently. He spends almost every day working in his office in Copacabana, and even when he falls ill he keeps working on ideas: After a gallbladder (胆囊) operation he composed a samba tune (桑巴舞曲) in the clinic. Another man who could sing a song about age is 107-year-old Heesters. The Dutch-born opera singer spent most of his life performing in Germany, where he still works. Recently Heesters said: "I want to be at least 108-years-old." He also plans to keep performing. "Should I just sit at home and wait until they come and pick me up?" Heesters has not given up trying to add to his tally of awards and is looking for a "good stage role". Italian scientist Rita Levi-Montalcini, who is 101-year-old and is still active in medical science, has described the force that keeps driving her on: "Progress is created through imperfection." In 1986 she and her lab colleague were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their work on nerve growth factor. She's convinced that humans grow on challenges.

(4)in that 35 1 which 33 1 whichever 30 1 where 28 1 交际用语如何应答21 1 其中22、27、35的错误率较高。
