Text 1

W: So what do you usually do in your free time?

M: At the moment, I am spending much of my free time learning German. I also enjoy playing the piano.

W: Do you play any sports?

M: Not mu ch, but I go to the sports ground and work out once a week.

Text 2

M: Wow, your homework looks great!

W: Thanks. 1 did it on my computer.

M: But come to think of it. Didn’t Mrs. Sawyer tell US we had to write it in our books?

W: Oh, no, you’re right. Oh. What am I going to do now?

Text 3

W: What time do you think would be OK for me to come?

M: HOW about 10 O’clock?

W: Can we make it 30 minutes earlier, as I’ll have a meeting at 11: 30?

M: No problem.

Text 4

M: Look! There’s an ATM over there.

W: Oh, good. I’ll get some money out and we can have a drink. Er…

M: What’s up?

W: I can never remember my card’s password.

Text 5

M: How about playing some of the records you bought this afternoon?

W: Impossible.

M: Well. What happened?

W: I put them on my bed, where 1 could see them, then left to have a drink. And when I came back, I sat on them.

Text 6

W: Oh, I wish that bus would come! My feet are freezing!

M: Have you been waiting long?

W: It feels like hours—but I suppose I’ve only been here ten minutes or so.

M: That’s long enough in this weather. This is awful. I hate winter. Since it has started to snow, I’ve been calling the weather report all day. They were continuously reporting one or two inches but we’ve got at least four inches already. My shoes are full of snow.

W: Well, that’s not typical here. And I heard that there has never been such a heavy snow before here. And if it does continue, I won’t go in to office tomorrow—I’ll work at home.

M: What kind of work do you do?

W: I’m a lawyer. My office is in the building around the comer.

M: Oh, that’s where I’ve seen you before. 1 work in the same buildjng —in that travel agency off the lobby.

Text7

M: This is YET’S Club. May I help you?

W: Yes, I’ve heard that you have a lunch meeting this Friday. Could you give me some more information about that?

M: Yes, of course. The guest speaker is Professor John Smith from University of Kansas, and he’ll be talking about the changes brought about by the Internet.

W: Hmm, that sounds very interesting, and when does the meeting begin?

M: Lunch will be served at 12: 30, and Professor Smith will speak at 1: 15.

W: And do you have any idea when it will end?

M: Oh, Professor Smith will speak for about one and a half hours.

W: Very well. Thank you very much.

M: You’re welcome.

Text8

M: Please take a seat!

W: Thank you.

M: Now you’ve applied for a job as a secretary with us. And I’d like to ask you some questions. Now, first of all, how many foreign languages can you speak?

W: I can speak English very well and also a little Japanese.

M: English and a little Japanese. Um, can you type?

W: Yes. I can type.

M: Uh-huh, and can you use a computer?

W: No. I’m afraid I can’t.

M: Well-that’s not very important.

Text 9

W: Mr. Charkas. First congratulations to you. Your country has won the European Football Cup.

M: Yes, we Greek reached the top finally.

W: What do you think are the important reasons for your success?

M: Let me see…Unlike some national teams, their players play in different countries, they need time to train together, but most of our players are playing in the Greek League. We know each other; and good communication in and out of the fields is one of the reasons for our success.

W: And what else helps you?

M: Um…A football game is a kind of teamwork. We can’t only depend on the big s tar in the field. We are working like one engine.

W: What role does your German coach play in your team?

M: Well, he’s great. He helped us to study and 1earn from other teams. But the so-called strong teams thought it was worthless to study the Greek team. When they realized that,it was too late. To speak honestly, the biggest reason for our victory is that some strong national

teams didn’t play well.

W: Thank you for accepting my interview. Again congratulations.
