Do you know how it is when you see someone yawn (打哈欠) and you start yawning too? Or how hard it is to be among people laughing and not laugh yourself? Well, obviously it’s be cause we have mirror neurons (神经元) in our brains.

Put simply, the presence of mirror neurons suggests that every time we see someone else do something, our brains model after it, whether or not we actually perform the same action. This explains a great deal about how we learn to smile, talk, walk, dance or play sports. But the idea goes further: mirror neurons not only appear to explain physical actions, they also tell us that there is a biological basis for the way we understand other people.

Mirror neurons can undoubtedly be found all over our brains, but especially in the areas which relate to our ability to use languages, and to understand how other people feel. Researchers have found that mirror neurons relate strongly to language. A group of researchers discovered that if they gave people sentences to listen to (for example: “The hand took hold of the ball”), the same mirror neurons were triggered as when the action was actually performed (in this example, actually taking hold of a ball).

Any problems with mirror neurons may well result in problems with behavior. Much research suggests that people with social and behavioral problems have mirror neurons which are not fully functioning However, it is not yet known exactly how these discoveries might help find treatments for social disorders.

Research into mirror neurons seems to provide us with ever more information about how humans behave, communicate and spend time together. Indeed, it may turn out to be nearly the same important thing for neuroscience as what Einstein’s theory of relativity (相对论) was for physics. And the next time you have the strong feeling to cough in the cinema when someone else does – well, perh aps you’ll understand why.

Later, he used more red and pink colours (his “rose period”). Many of his other paintings are called “cubist(立体画派)” because they are made of painted squares.

After a long ti me, Picasso’s paintings became more and more abstract. He pai nted people and things using strange shapes. His work was so original; many of his fellow artists didn’t understand it.

Kandinsky, another famous artist, used lines, shapes, and patterns to paint his subjects. His paintings also used strong colours to express feelings.

Other artists like the sur realists(超现实主义者),were interested in subcons cious(潜意识). Painters like Breton and Magritte used many symbol in their work. The meaning or subject of their work wasn't always clear. Dali, another surrealist artist, painted pictures that look like dreams.

They were first introduced to Europe during the 1100s, when armies returned from the Middle East with knowledge of using wind power.

For many centuries, people used windmills to make wheat into flour(面粉) or get water from deep underground. When electricity was discovered in the late 1800s, people living in faraway areas began to use them to produce electricity. This allowed them to have electric lights and radio. However, by t he 1940s when electricity was available to people in almost all areas of the United States, windmills were hardly used.

During the 1970s, people started becoming more cared about the pollution that is created when coal and gas are burned to produce electricity.

Kids don’t have a voice. They have no way to share their ideas. TEDx Youth is a locally organized event, where live talks and recorded videos are shared with the community(社区). TEDx Youth is always held on Children’s Day every year. It brings together big ideas from, and for kids. More importantly, it encourages kids to share their ideas with the world.

“Age is b ut a n umber. You’re not too young to change the world. Planning an event alongside young people makes you realize that kids have ideas that an adult might usually not think of,” said one TEDx Youth s peaker. Another speaker said, “What I have come to realize is that no matter where you live or how old you are, everyone is eager to be someone great.”

Organizing a TED x Youth event shows that kids are able to do much more than what’s expected. They truly take this event and make it even more than what everyone hopes it will be. “The fact that youth, just like me, had planned and run the event shocked me most,” said one volunteer. “I thought the event was surprising. I couldn’t believe that kids of my age m ade the event happen.”

There are several ways to take part in TEDx Youth. The easiest way is to become a speaker, if you think your idea is worth spreading. Another way is to attend an event. And lastly, you can become a TEDx Youth Reporter. Reporters take pictures from the event and post them on line, and send news about what is happening at eve nt, interview some of the speakers, and write articles about the event. “It was wonderful to see how youth team members were with the whole event and how thankful they were (and still are!) to be given such an unbelievable chance as being part of a TEDx event,” said an organizer.

TEDx Youth is welcoming kids from every culture who want to have a deeper understanding of the world.

Tho se who get involved with it believe in the power of ideas, which can change attitudes, lives and the world.

48. What is the main purpose of holding a TEDx Youth event?

A.To give kids a chanc e to record videos.

B. To spread kids’ ideas all over the world

C. To raise money for the local community

D. To help kids with their schoolwork

49. What did a volunteer think of the event?

A.Quite typical

B. Pretty crazy

C. Rather difficult

D. Surprising good

50. One of a reporter’s jobs is to ____.

A.give a talk

B. do some interviews

C. plan an event

D. organize some activities

51. What is the best title of this passage?

A.When Is TEDx Youth Held?

B. Why can Kids Realize Their Dreams?

C. How Can Kids Share Big Ideas?

D. What Changes Can TEDx Youth Bring Us?

通过“...the main purpose...”

定位文章第一段的最后一句话“M ore im portantly, it encourages kids to share their ideas with the world.” 选项B 中的“to spread kids’ ideas all over the world” 属于同义词替换,所以B选项正确。

49、D。 通过“...a volunteer...”定位第三段的最后一句“I thought the event was surprising. I couldn’t believe that kids of my age made the event happen.”

通过题目定位第四段中间部分“Reporters take pic tures from the event and post them on line, and send news about what is happening at event, interview some of the speakers, and write articles about the event.”对照四个选项可知,B选项和文中“interview some of the speakers”属于同义词替换,故B选项正确。

The right name is important in the business world. All you have to do is think of the names for some of the product are connected in everyone’s mind.

In many countries, successful trade or brand names are protected by law. This is so that other companies cannot make a pro duct that looks like another. People might think that they were buying one product and, in fact , be buying something different. Businesses register a company or a product name with the government. In fact, more

than 1,000 product and company names are registered every hour. Many companies spend a lot of money to find the right name for their products. A good example of this is in the car industry. Some successful names for cars have powerful associations(联系). The Ford Mustang and the Jaguar are only two examples of choosing the names of animals that are fast and strong.

When a U.S. company decides to sell its product in another country, it has to make sure that the product name translates properly. When Coca-Cola introduced its soft drink to China, it looked for the right name. It wanted a name that would do two things. One was to present its image in Chinese and the second was to be close to its first brand name——Coke. It took some efforts before finding the right word—which sounds similar and translates as “happiness in the mouth”. Asian company names are not new to the United States. The brand names of Samsung and Sony have been successful. Finding the right brand name is a big business. Asian companies that sell to foreign markets pay to find a name that will connect with its customers. There are even naming companies that specialize in inventing product names. These companies can charge(要价)up to $ 100,000 a word for their creations. But it’s worth it. Successful companies know how important the right brand names are for their development.

29. Trade names are protected by law in many countries ___________.

A. to make companies pay for naming service.

B. to help people choose the best products.

C. to present good images of the products.

D. to prevent products from being copied.

30.What can we learn from the passage?

A. Many companies care about the cost of finding the right names.

B. Creative trade names can help companies to have a larger sale.

C. The government often does business with naming companies.

D. It is considered necessary for cars to be named after animals.
