What Is Education for?

Recently, the issue of “What Is Education for”has captured wide media attention, constantly occupying the headlines,stimulated heated discussions. Finding a good job, earning more money, enhancing personal charisma, these are the general responses that come to many people’s mind when they consider of the issue. However , I, after witnessing a tremendous development in China’s education owing to some policy being carried out, am more inclined to believe that the primary goal of education is to cultivate and form good learning and thinking habits.

To start with, the past three decades have witnessed our overwhelmingly excessive emphasis on material benefits and unawareness of the importance of cultivating and forming good learning and thinking habits ,which has been increasingly becoming the primary goal of education, when we talk about “What Is Education for”. Nevertheless, it is the function of education that spark and fuel the

sustained social progress and continuous betterment of culture when we are undergoing the ever most rapid economic growth, and cultivating and forming good learning and thinking habits, the primary goal of education ,emerges as the most thriving one among them.. As we all know, nowadays is the time which the knowledge changes with each new day, which requests people to have the life-long study consciousness and ability. Only after we cultivate and form good learning and thinking habits can we learn something new without any difficult after we graduated from school, in other words, we will be better to adapt ourselves to the life-long study society. For instance, Zhang Liyong, a cook in Tsinghua university, strove to learn English and received full score on his TOEFL examination in consequence of good learning and thinking habits that he cultivated and formed in senior high school.

China is developing at seven league strides, and no thinking man would refuse to admit the fact that the commitment to national and individual prosperity requires a better education, whose goal is to cultivate and form good learning and thinking habits. To recapitulate, only when our education is for cultivating and forming good learning and thinking habits can we hope to witness the ideal scene in which people can enjoy their life to the uttermost.
