请认真阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

A

Cynthia Kadohata wrote Kira-Kiraand never thought it would be so popular among students. It is a book about a young Japanese-American girl, Katie Takeshima, and the difficulties that her family have to face when they are forced to move to Georgia. This book tells the story of one family’s journey to a new place, their experiences of racism (种族主义), and the ability of people to move forward through hard times.

In the book, Katie and Lynn Takeshima are sisters. The story begins in Iowa, where their parents’small family-owned store runs out of business. Soon after, the Takeshimas begin to have financial difficulties and they go in search of a new living. The family moves to Georgia where they work at a hatchery (孵化厂) with their uncle. On the way to their new home in Georgia they experience racism. They have difficulty in "fitting in"when a hotel manager tells them to go to "the back"where the "Indians"have to stay.

Life gets even harder for the Takeshimas when they begin to work at the hatchery. Katie’s parents are over-worked there. They have to stay in a crowded apartment with little space. And as if that isn’t enoug h, Katie has too much schoolwork to do. During Katie’s struggle, Lynn becomes sick and Katie feels unsafe, because she has always looked up to Lynn. There are hard times that Katie and her family have to experience. This story is a beautiful example of resilience (适应力) and friendship. It also opens the reader’s eyes to some of the struggles that Asian Americans face.

56. Why does the family have to leave Iowa?

A. They are not used to the life in Iowa.

B. People look down on them in Iowa.

Most people told me that I would have to learn to be good with money during my college education but I didn’t really believe them. Now I know that this is absolutely true: you have to know the wisdom of efficient money management.

Fo od costs much more when you’re paying for it by yourself. Food isn’t the only thing you have to pay for —you also have to pay for textbooks and other materials. If you aren’t careful, you can spend up to $700 per term on textbooks alone.

Being able to manage your money is only half the battle; the other half is finding the money. Besides studying hard to gain a scholarship and taking loans (贷款), you also need to find a good part-time job. Depending on the school, you may be able to apply for a work-study job. These jobs could be a doorkeeper or a tutor (助教) at a writing center. In college, the summer vacation is no longer a period of rest and relaxation. It’s a time of hard work so that students like me can afford the education.

Paying for college is a great challenge, especially if you try to manage it alone. The best way to survive the ordeal (严酷的考验) is to make and keep as many good relationships as possible. There are people who would like to give you used textbooks, free supplies and important information.

Work hard and always look for good offers and great friends and relationships. College is never something you should do alone.

59. This passage is to tell us how to _____.

A. manage money at college

B. find part-time jobs at college

A. Gaining a scholarship.

B. Borrowing money from banks.

62. The author advises students to make good relationships at college because _________.

A. people can help each other

B. life is quite boring

C. they work as hard as possible

D. it helps them to earn money

Have you ev er walked to the shops, only to find when you get there that you’ve completely forgotten what you go for? Or have you struggled to remember the name of an old friend? For years, we’ve accepted that a forgetful brain is as much a part of aging as wrinkles a nd grey hair. But now a new book suggests we’ve got it all wrong.

According to The Secret Life Of The Grown-up Brain, by science writer, Barbara Strauch, our brains actually get better with age. In fact, she argues many new studies have found that the brain hits its peak (最高点) between our 40s and 60s —much later than previously thought.

Furthermore, not losing many brain cells as we age, we preserve them, and even produce new ones well into middle age. For years it’s been accepted that the brain, much like the body, got worse with age. But the longest, largest study into what happens to people as they age suggests otherwise.

This continuing research has followed 6,000 people since 1956, testing them every seven years. It has found that, on average, they performed better in cognitive tests in their late 40s and 50s than they had in their 20s. Specifically, older people did better in tests of vocabulary, spatial orientation (空间方向) skills, verbal memory (how many words you can remember) and problem solving.

Where they were weaker was in numeracy (计算能力) (how quickly one can multiply, add, subtract and divide) and the speed at which they could move. However, with harder tasks, such as problem-solving and language, we are at our best at middle age and beyond. In short, researchers are going to come up with scientific evidence that we do get wiser with age.

67. The underlined word, "it" in the first paragraph refers to ______.

A. the older one is, the wiser one is

B. our brain gets better with age

C. we get wrinkles and grey hair as we age

D. our brains become forgetful as we age

68. Science writer, Barbara Strauch, believes that _______.

A. our brains are wisest between our 40s and 60s

B. we lose many brain cells as we age

C. our brains are at their worst after our 60s

D. people are wiser now than years ago

69. What is NOT true of this new research?

A. It is the longest and largest of its kind.

B. It has been running since 1956.

C. The 6,000 people have been tested at least seven times so far.

D. Researchers have provided supporting scientific evidence

70. According to the new research, older people ______.

A. are slow in verbal memory and numeracy

B. have less ability to solve problems

C. behave better on tests of vocabulary than in their 20s

D. produce more new brain cells than the middle-aged

第四部分任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)

请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。

注意:每个空格只填1个单词。

Among the 1,500 terracotta warrior (兵马俑) figures of the Terracotta Army stands a unique green-faced soldier discovered in Pit No.2 in 1999.

The white part of the figure’s eye ball a nd black pupil can still be seen clearly. His face, neck and ears were painted light green, which marks him out, very different from the other pink-faced terracotta warriors.

This difference led to a heated argument among archaeologists about how he came to be painted in this way. Some experts believed it was done completely by mistake, guessing that the creator must have been color blind. Some experts believed the warrior’s green face was meant to frighten enemies. Still others thought the green color was used to show the braveness of all the soldiers and the power of the army in battle, because the ancient Chinese believed green was a symbol of youthfulness and energy.

A student from Shanghai Jiaotong University recently offered a new explanation that the green-faced terracotta warrior could have been an army sniper (狙击手). He gave three reasons. Firstly, the "Shi Ji"(the Book of History) records that snipers were already in use by the Qin Dynasty. The warrior was a kneeling archer(跪着的射手), in the posture of controlling a bow, which is the basic position of a sniper. Secondly, both in ancient and modern times, snipers are generally required to fight alone. The fact that this warrior was the only one of his kind to be unearthed in Pit No.2 supports this explanation. Finally, snipers traditionally use camouflage(伪装) to remain unseen, which could explain the green face.

Archeologists haven’t solved the mystery of the painted warrior, but they continue to search

for clues in the hope that they can one day solve this mystery. A Green-Faced

书面表达(One possible version)

In the picture, a tourist, pointing at the sign on the wall that mentions price rises, asks the ticket seller why they have raised their prices. And the ticket seller answers that this tourist attraction has now been listed as a World Natural Heritage site. Many tourists argue that this policy is unreasonable and unfair. In addition to this, it is also believed that the price rises will result in a reduction in the number of tourists, which will damage not only the development of tourism but also the local economy in the long run. With all factors taken into consideration, it is better that the price rises are based on improvement of services and quality instead of just a new title.
