What Does Social Media Bring Us?

Social media is the general term of the platforms that enable people to conveniently contact with their friends, relatives and acquaintances as well as to share their interesting experience or individual opinions online, such as QQ, Wechat, Twitter and Facebook. As the inevitable outcome of the Information Age, social media prevails among people all over the world, and exerts a profound influence on every relative field.

From the aspect of interpersonal relationship, social media shortens the gap of communication, to some degree. No more restriction of distance, you can contact with your friends wherever he or she is, as long as you can log in your account. No more restriction of interest, you can come across different voices that may amuse you or irritate you. It is beyong doubt that social media create an atmosphere that makes it more convenient for us to survive in the Information Age. However, its negative effect should also be noticed. Currently there are a large quantity of people who neglect face-to-face communication, which often cause emotional indifference and exist-in-name-only relationship. Some adolescents even prohibit their parents from visiting their social media. That its extended use may be addictive should arouse public alertness.

From the aspect of sharing information, social media serves as a powerful tool in the 21st century. With social media, relaying and obtaining and all sorts of information turns out to be "so easy". You can easily get to know what the ones you care for are doing, you can easily download the documents through the cloud disc, you can easily share your favourite song or the news that appeals to you with your fellows. However, some ill-intentioned or even illegal schemer may avail themselves of the loopholes. Through the social media, they may spread some indecent or violent publications, they may fabricate and spread some rumours that do harm to our collective interest, they may secretly perform the agitation of a colour revolution. They make use of the loopholes to deform our social stability.

From the aspect of personal information, social media builds a new form of displaying oneself. People make conversations wearing their "masks", seldom reveal their true identity to others, some people may even have several accounts of one specific social media at the same time. Compared with face-to-face communication, it apparently offers a relatively-more-comfortable space for people. However, personal privacy cannot always be guaranteed. Some individuals or organizations may spy on your personal information and steal your money, supervise your personal life, or even wiretap confidential information.

From the aspect of its impact on our reality, social media has a great expectation. To some extent, we can see that it has successively connect virtual world and reality. Following its original intention----to make life more convenient, it has developed services tha

t cover almost every aspects of our daily life, including food, clothing, housing and transportation. For instance, the newly-developed service Reserving Your Taxi and Wechat Bonus Grabbing have attracted wide attention. We shall wait and see what surprise and disappointments will social media bring to us next.

Compared with traditional media such as television and newspaper, social media is a new being with a promising future. Throughout its development, inevitably there are both praise and condemnation. To sum up, social media brings us both convenience and inappropriacy.

Critical Acceptance of the Universal Language of the World Should Be Advocated

English is the language of Britain, the Us, Australia and some other countries. As one of the most widely-used languages at present, it has not been recognized as the official language of several organizations that have global influence, such as the UN and WHO, but also been largely used in every occasion. Under the present circumstance, I am in favour of the proposition that English or one another most-spoken language should be accepted as the universal language of the world.

From the angle of the current trend of the times, barely can anyone deny that communication is one of the most general and essential means in international activities. The tendency of globalization, though being as much praised as blamed, is irresistable. Thus, as a tool of efficient communication, English, or another highly influential language, should be accepted as the universal language, otherwise the ones incapable of using English would sometimes find themselves misunderstood, isolated, or even dismissed, which is disadvantageous to their own development.

From the angle of the awaiting-to-be-universally-accepted language itself, its current extensive use has its origin and its historical background. As is known to us, English is primarily spread through movies and colonization, Chinese is spread through silk-road. Both the languages have their justifications to remain and even make progress under time's erosion. The language has existed for centuries, or even for ages, has experienced the process of developing what is positive and discarding what is negative in its metabolism, has shaped its characteristics that guarantee it durable to develop, and most importantly, to spread. In short, the language itself has the ability to be easily accepted as the universal language, and remain unchangeable during a long time.

However, from my perspective, our acceptance should have a certain degree. We have heard many voices, mainly from the developing countries, that oppose to the language spreading. They regard it as cultural invasion, and conceive that it will stand on the opposite side to their national or local language. To some extent, we have to acknowledge its rightness. To our sadness, language-spreading could somehow be the means of invasion. During World War II, the Japanese Army cap

tured Taiwan and the Northeast China, and forced the survivors there to speak Japanese by violent means. Although the savage invader was driven away from our country, we were disappointed to see that some people in the colony refused to speak Chinese and could not take a firm stand in the relationship between Chinese and Japanese, such as Denghui Li. Historical experience teaches us a lesson that we cannot forget our mother tongue. The universal language is of great significance, but by no means can it go beyond its place as the second language of native people or attempt to replace our mother language. We should respect each culture and cannot erode it by gentle intrigue.

To sum up, under present circumstance, we should accept English, or another universal language as the universal language in the world, but never as the first language in each country.
