When most people think of the Olympics, they don't think of sc ience. But in the US A, each year, students take part in a kind of competition called the Science Olympia d.
It has a lot of different events. Students go there to show how much they know a bout the science of music, biology, chemistry and others. My best ev ent is forestry (森林学). This time, I went to the Olympiad with my school's team. We had worked hard, but this was the state competition. It would be hard to win.
The Olympiad was out of town, so we got to ride on a bus and stay in a hotel for a night. The Olympiad was in three big rooms. When we got there, we set up our team's "camp" off to one side. The big day had come at last! First, I went to wat ch the tower building competition. That's when students build small towers and put heavy things on top of it. They hope they can hold them up. At last, it was time for my favorite event—forestry. Another student was al so in the forestry event. The rules were easy. We had to look at more than 40 diff erent kinds of leaves and find out which plants they were from. We also had to an swer some questions about the uses of each leaf. I knew almost all of the leaves a nd could answer most of the questions. I had spent more than a month studying o n the Internet to get ready. At the end, it was time for the awards (颁奖), l was n ervous, because the forestry awards were last. We won second place in the whole state! A nice man gave me a medal and smiled at me.

For many of us, the idea of a family is a lot narrower than it used to be. Today ch ildren go away to college, and take up jobs wherever chances seem greatest. So in stead of growing up in a family with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, many of us are truly connected only to our parents and brothers.
Many kids today know little of the lives of their relatives and don't care deeply abo ut them.
Whether we realize it or not, this feeling of being disconnected makes people feel a kind of lonely. "People need to feel connected," says Joy Browne, a doctor in the U.S. "And they will do it in the easiest ways." When family members aren't connect ed, what could be easier than forming (形成) a connection to famous people?
This isn't something unusual, of course. People cried when Mei Yanfang died in 200 3. It's natural and in most ways harmless to feel that way. But that's unhealthy, be cause these relationships (关系) aren't two-way.
For that, we need to stay connected to our own families. We'll never turn back the
clock to keep families from breaking. But parents can help by telling their children stories about their grandparents, aunts and cousins, and by telling them the childre n's latest activities and interests.
We can use technology to keep connected with each other. It's easy to send e-mail s to granddad Better yet, take a vacation with members of your relatives—not with any other person. A week or so of relaxing vacation can be a great way to tie up f amily ties. And when a bad thing happens, no one can be as helpful as your relati ves. Because no matter how much we cry for the famous people, they can't be the re to cry for us.

During the last summer vacation I went to Beidaihe. We took a train there, While I was sitting on the train, I kept looking out of the window. After breakfast some of us climbed up to the temple on the top called Jinding. But I couldn't do that. I felt very sorry for it. After lunch we began to go back home. It was more difficult to go down to the foot than to climb up to the top. When we got to the foot, some of us could hardly walk any farther.
I will never forget the trip to the Fanjing Mount, for it was quite pleasant. During the trip I saw a lot of old trees and many beautiful flowers. I think the Fanjing Mount is not only very large but also very beautiful. I love it very much.
